General Introduction The infiltration system ENREGIS/X-Box®, available in different product heights in steps of 5 cm (ENREGIS/X-Box® SP in steps of 10 cm), definitely represents one of the most stable boxes available on the market. Models cover the entire height range between 10 and 80 cm. The integration of inspection and inspection channels is selectable according to the current application:

For planning, dimensioning and construction of infiltration ditches resp. block storages, legal prescriptions with respect to water permits and corresponding directives and standards (e.g. DWA A138 or equivalent) have to be observed. The following conditions have to be taken into consideration as well: For a block type infiltration ditch, the maximum average groundwater level is restricted to 1.0 m below the soil. The bearing capacity of the subsoil (minimum deformation modulus Evd ≥ 25MN/m²), and in the case of block type infiltration ditches also its water permeability, must be sufficient (permeability coefficient kf > 1 ·10-6 m/sec.). For this reason, the subsoil, acc. to DIN 18196 must consist of non-cohesive or mixed-grain concrete. A corresponding proof including competent detection of the kf-value normally must be furnished, refer to DWA A 138. If the soil consists of grown non-cohesive or mixed grain concrete, sufficient bearing capacity in most cases is provided as well. As to the water permeability, a maximum limit of kf = 1 ·10-3 m/sec. should not be exceeded all the same. Otherwise in the case of low distance to groundwater, the polluted runoff water would traverse the zone not saturated by water too fast, and thus could not be properly cleaned by chemical or biological processes.



Storage and Shipment The usual package of 600 mm cubes (ENREGIS/X-Box and inspection channel ENREGIS/Controlbox) comprises 16 blocks per pallet, at a weight of 10 kg for each 600 mm cube. The pallets can be transported by conventional forklifts or wheel loaders. When using excavators or cranes, the machines must dispose of an adequate admission for corresponding lifting operations. IMPORTANT: The minimum processing temperature for boxes amounts to +5°C. Do not drop the blocks when handling. Impact must be avoided! For temporary storage, the subsoil must be even and adequately compacted. Due to regulations for prevention of accidents, a maximum storage height of 3 m should not be exceeded. The pallets have to be protected against influences of wind and storm. The admissible outdoor storage duration restricts to one year. Exposure to direct sunlight should be prevented, i.e. the products have to be stored in the shade or wrapped by opaque foil. Excessive temperature (e.g. if the heat cannot be properly carried off from the blocks) should be avoided as well. In such cases, installation should not start before the blocks are cooled down. Before installation, the blocks should visually be inspected; damaged items should not be used. Applicable safety regulations and standards for civil engineering must be observed.



Excavation of the Building Pit and Preparation of the Support During excavation of the pit, up to an installation depth of 5.0 m the requirements stated in DIN 4124, as well as the corresponding gradients of slope, must be taken into consideration. In the case of excavation depth beyond this limit, a calculation with respect to the proof of stability for the acclivity acc. to DIN 4084 may be required. The working space of the excavation should exceed the width and the length of the infiltration ditch by 1 m. The depth of the pit should include the height of the packing, the coverage and the fine gravel support below the blocks. The excavation bottom should be horizontal and flat, mellow sections within the soil are not admissible. If the rain or runoff water could bank in certain zones of the pit, the corresponding soil must be exchanged by material more permeable to water. For infiltration systems, the permeability of the compacted bottom of the pit should correspond at least to the permeability as prescribed by the plan. Sometimes it proves to be necessary to apply a compensating layer of sand, gravelly sand or fine gravel (2/8) mm on the excavation bottom. The surface should be compacted acc. to DWA A-139 by a lightweight plate vibrator, and then horizontally be leveled by means of a featheredge. Afterwards this compensation layer should not be accessed in the absence of deals or formwork panels.



The company responsible for installation is bound to furnish a proof, that the degree of compaction of the support amounts at least to 97%, and that the deformation modulus Evd to 25MN/m².

Installation of the Filter Fleece A sufficiently dimensioned geo-synthetic layer (separating / filter fleece with robustness class GRK 3 at least) has to be placed in a crease-free manner onto the surface of the compensating layer. The infiltration blocks have to be installed in conformity with the instructions of the corresponding manufacturer. This geo-synthetic layer protects the soil from undermining.



The lateral panels of the infiltration ditch should be totally covered by geo-synthetic material as well, again without creasing. The width of overlaps should amount to 0.5 m at least. Cruciform cuts should be applied in the fleece for tube penetrations. Earth should not be allowed to ingress between packing and fleece. The surface of the fleece must completely be closed, openings are not admissible.

Installation of the Blocks The blocks should be placed in layers, side by side or one behind the other, according the design of the configuration. The purging channel is usually located centrally in the infiltration ditch in the lowest layer. The purging channels may also be adapted to the positions of the supply lines.

Option with additional filter stage The PE/PP filter stage included in the delivery with a length of 5 m has to be rolled out on the floor to a width of 1.80 m.

Wrap the PE/PP textile around the filter box/inspection channel, and fix it e.g. by means of a tacker.



The end of the section should overlap (15 cm). Then restart the procedure.

Ventilation Equipment

Ventilation equipment must be provided, otherwise the air displaced during filling of the infiltration ditch or the block storage cannot escape. The design of this equipment must reliably prevent small animals from entering the system.



Filling of the Building Pit

The lateral working rooms close to the infiltration ditch directly beside the geo-synthetic layer have to be backfilled by non-cohesive soil consisting of round grain with a maximum granular size of 32 mm. The width of this zone must correspond to at least ¼ of the height of the infiltration ditch, but at least to 0.50 m. Backfilling zones at a larger distance may also be filled with mixed grain soil, if it meets the general conditions of earthwork. In all of the zones, the kf value of the backfilling soil must exceed the value of adjacent material. Every compactible soil in conformity with the general regulations of earthwork may be used for backfilling. Remember however that lateral outer surfaces have to be covered by geo-synthetic material ensuring mechanical protection, if required also with draining and filtering functions. This way the watertight outer skin can be protected from damage. If practicable, the different portions of the backfilling soil have to be introduced simultaneously, and at equal height at the opposite sides of the infiltration ditch, in layers of 0.30 mm thickness (max.). Compression has to be carried out by light or medium weight plate vibrators acc. to DWA A-139. In addition to the separating / filter fleece already present, a second geo-synthetic layer or a compensating layer made of sand, gravelly sand or fine gravel has to be applied to the surface of the infiltration ditch. In either case, a proof must be furnished showing that separating as well as filtering functions are provided at a sufficient degree. For the first layer of cover material (>30cm; ruts must be taken into consideration; shunting motion has to be avoided), non-cohesive or mixed grain soil with a maximum granular size dmax = 32 mm has to be used, the gravel portion must exclusively consist of round grain. The surface of the infiltration ditch should never be accessed directly by vehicles. It is recommended to install the bottoming in the front head by means of an excavator oriented sideways or a front loader with at least 4 twin-tired wheels and a maximum wheel load of 3 t. For compression, light or medium weight plate vibrators acc. to DWA A-139 have to be used. Vibration rollers are not admitted.



The cover should not be accessed by heavy vehicles with a maximum wheel load of 5 t (SLW 30), if the height of cover material amounts to less than 0.80 mm. When the minimum coverage for subsequent road construction has been achieved, a deformation modulus Ev2 of ≥ 45MN/m² must be proven, in conformity with RSTO 01.

For the following layers of cover material, every compactible soil corresponding to the general regulations of earthwork may be used. The compaction process has to be performed by adequate machines with a total weight of max. 6t. The compaction to be achieved depends on the designated use of the place. If it is intended to be used as a traffic area, the corresponding requirements of road construction must be met (refer to ZTVE-StB 94 or equivalent; construction class V and VI are supposed to be valid). The minimum degree of compaction amounts to DPr = 97%. Building activities involving infiltration ditches have exclusively to be carried out in periods in which frost does not need to be taken into consideration. For backfilling and covering, only frost resisting soil acc. to ZTVE-StB 94 (non-cohesive soil) is admissible.

Further Measures The system should not be penetrated by roots. Therefore only shallow rooted plants are admissible, the distance between infiltration ditch and tree should amount to half the treetop at least.



The infiltration ditch and filter stages should be verified and serviced in regular intervals. Use the inspection channel for that purpose (high-pressure flushing possible, up to 100 b).

Mounting depth ENREGIS/X-Box® and ENREGIS/CONTROLBOX® Mounting criteria specified for ENREGIS/X-Box are valid for construction class V und VI and for load SLW 60 acc. to DIN1072: - Minimum coverage for ENREGIS/X-Box: 0.8 m (1.0 m in accord. with DIBt) - Max. installation depth ENREGIS/X-Box: 4.5 m - Max. height of infiltration ditch for ENREGIS/X-Box: 2.4 m (2.0 m in accord. with DIBt) For ENREGIS/Controlbox the following conditions have to be met: - Minimum coverage for ENREGIS/Controlbox: 1.0 m - Max. installation depth ENREGIS/Controlbox: 3.5 m - Max. height of infiltration ditch for ENREGIS/Controlbox: 2.4 m (2,0 m in accord. with DIBt)



For ENREGIS/X-Box SP the following conditions have to be met: - Minimum coverage for ENREGIS/X-Box SP: 1.0 m - Max. installation depth ENREGIS/X-Box SP: 3.5 m - Max. height of infiltration ditch for ENREGIS/X-Box SP: 1,80 m For ENREGIS/X-Box SP green the following conditions have to be met: - Minimum coverage for ENREGIS/X-Box SP green: 1.0 m - Max. installation depth ENREGIS/X-box SP green: 3.00 m - Max. height of infiltration ditch for ENREGIS/X-Box SP green: 1.20 m For systems exceeding these limits, a written permission of ENREGIS GmbH is imperative.
