INTRODUCTION: MOVING IN

RECYCLING COMPOUNDS CLOTHING DROP BOXMAP LEGEND

This guide has all the information you need to know about moving into Residence this September!

 Move-in begins at 8:00 a.m.

If you are driving to campus, please follow the directions to the parking lot you have been assigned and place your parking pass postcard on your dash.

A limited number of moving carts are available to assist you with moving in. We recommend bringing a portable moving cart if you have one. Please note, not all buildings have elevators.

Volunteers will be in the parking lots to assist you with finding a spot and directing you to the Residence check-in area. Staff and volunteers are not able to assist you with moving your belongings.

Please do not bring your family pet. Residences are animal-free (except for approved service animals).

Recycling stations will be setup throughout the Residence complex. Please be sure to sort your recycling and garbage prior to disposal.

CHECKING IN: GENERAL TIPS

Students should check into their assigned Residence between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Remember to print off your Orientation schedule prior to arrival.

Residence check-in will be located in the Cadboro Commons dining hall on move-in day.

Government issued Photo ID is required to collect your keys and check-in.

Sign in to the Housing Portal and complete your online “Room Condition Report” within 48 hours of arrival. This will create a record regarding the condition of your accommodation (i.e., any existing damage), and the condition of and/or any missing inventory items. If there is a question regarding responsibility for damages to the room or unit or furnishings, this record will be used in determining responsibility for the damages.

Your Orientation Schedule will be e-mailed to you the week prior to move-in day. Remember to print it off prior to your arrival. This has important information such as when and where your first building/floor meetings will be, and where you are having dinner on your first night in residence!

Once you’ve checked in, find your room and move in! Make sure to introduce yourself to your neighbours and Community Leader.

Check out the move-in day Info Fair. Here, you can:

Connect with UVic groups such as Academic Advising, UVic Food Services, VIKES Athletics, and the UVic Student Society

Buy items for your room from pop-up vendors

Grab a burger from the Food Services BBQ

Visit booths to get entered in a draw for prizes

Meet at UVic Orientation for family tours of campus

IMPORTANT If you are arriving later than our official move-in day, please notify Residence Admissions by email at [email protected] otherwise, your room may be cancelled and re-assigned.

WHAT TO DO BEFORE ARRIVING

Preparing your computer

ü For PCs, apply all Windows Critical Updates just before leaving home through Windows Update so that your updates are current when you arrive.

ü Ensure that your antivirus software is current. If you don’t have antivirus software we recommend that you download and install Microsoft Security Essentials from the Microsoft website. COMPUTER QUESTIONS

If you have questions or difficulty connecting to ResNet when you arrive, please contact the Computer Help Desk at 250-721-7687 or visit the office in CLE A037.
