2011 Predictions

It was a jungle out there. Did we survive and roar with success in Tiger Year 2010?

The stock market was heading north in the earlier

months until it took a hit in April/May 2010 from the

European sovereign debt crisis. It picked up mo-

mentum in June 2010 and the Straits Times Index

(STI) is now hovering around the 3100-point level.

Property prices climbed steadily as well, sounding

alarm bells along the way and indirectly putting

wedding bells on hold. The authorities stepped in

by imposing new regulations to cool down the siz-

zling hot property market before it got out of con-

trol.

Last year, ProsperTimes™ Jan issue, 2010 Tiger

Year Predictions, was spot on! We mentioned

about international conflicts too. History repeated

itself in 2010. Tensions escalated and tempera-

tures rose between the 2 Koreas on the peninsular

after the North Korean artillery bombarded one of

the South Korean island in Nov 2010.

The ferocious Golden Tiger will leap out of our

path soon and makes way for the hopping

Golden Rabbit.

The Rabbit zodiac, the fourth animal in the

Chinese horoscope, will be taking the centre-

stage soon. Will we witness a calmer and more

harmonious 2011? How is the stock market

Similarly, the Year of the Rabbit, 2011, is symbolised by a Heavenly Stem and an Earthly

Branch (辛卯) in the Hsia Calendar.

The Heavenly Stem xin (辛) represents Yin Metal and the Earthly Branch mao (卯) represents Yin Wood. This is a Metal Rabbit year that implies

Metal “sitting” on top of Wood.

According to the Cycle of Birth (生) and Destruc-tion (克), which governs the inter-relationship between the Five Elements, Metal will conquer or

destroy Wood (金克木). This is a sign of conflict or disharmony. Different from Tiger Year, xin (辛) Metal symbolises a dagger and it implies hidden

The unique feature of this system is that every

year, every month, every day and every hour

is represented by 2 characters, namely the

Heavenly Stem (天干) and the Earthly Branch (地支).

The system encompasses 10 Heavenly Stems

and 12 Earthly Branches, and each of the

Heavenly Stem or the Earthly Branch is repre-

sented by Yin and Yang (阴阳) and one of the Five Elements (五行).

The Five Elements are representation of the

basic components of everything in the Uni-

verse. The relationship between the Ele-

The most recent years that both Metal and Wood

elements appeared together are Year 2004, 2005

and 2010. Year 2004, 2005 and 2010 are years of

Wood Monkey (甲申), Wood Rooster (乙酉) and Metal Tiger (庚寅) respectively with Wood “sitting” on Metal or vice versa. During these years, we

witnessed military confrontation between North

and South Korea in 2010 and a series of terrorist

attacks, most notably were bombings in Madrid,

London, Bali and Iraq. On 26 Dec 2004, mankind

experienced the giant tsunami that brought

death tolls to hundreds of thousands and

changed the coastlines of many countries.

The Hsia Calendar is formulated on a 60-year

cycle (六十甲子年). This means that the same pair of Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch (辛卯) was also experienced in Year 1951. During this year,

espionage between nations was rampant and

the Korean War, which started in the previous

year, continued and resulting in more people los-

ing their lives. In the same year, King Abdullah I of

Jordan and the Pakistani Prime Minister were as-

sassinated.

From historical occurrences, Year 2011 is again

unlikely to be a peaceful year, with continuing

conflicts or disagreements and instances of espio-

nage and assassination.

The Heavenly Stem xin (辛), which is represented by the Yin Metal element, is likened to a dagger

or jewelry. It exudes an air of gracefulness and

flair, while preserving steel-liked characteristics

within. It symbolises high tolerance, authoritative

mannerism and ostentatious behaviour. This

could imply that Rabbit Year 2011 is a year of

hidden conflicts with different sides displaying

untrue impressions of themselves. Face issue is all

the more important, leading to more people

putting up a brave front. Do not judge a book by

its cover. There could be more than meets the

eye.

The Rabbit mao (卯) belongs to the Wood element (木) and it represents the peak of spring. During this time, trees have grown and

blossomed. As a result, their huge crown

canopies become vulnerable to gales, leading to

broken branches, fallen leaves or even uprooted

trees. This implies injuries or broken limbs. Exercise

Year 2011 will see more couples tying the knot and walk-

ing down the red carpet. People born in the Year of

Tiger (寅), Horse (午) or Dog (戌) tend to be under strong influence of this star. Their social circle is likely to widen,

As the Rabbit (卯) is in direct clash with the Rooster (酉), also known as Six Clashes (六冲), and causes an Ingratitude Clash (无恩之刑) with the Rat (子), a Conflicting Clash (相害) with the Dragon (辰) and a Related Clash (相破) with the Horse (午), people born in the Year of the Rooster, Rat, Dragon or

We were quite accurate in predicting the stock

market outlook in Tiger Year 2010. We saw ups

and downs, and we were quite right in forecast-

ing the timing of the upward trends too. By the

end of 2010, the Straits Times Index (STI) was

hovering in close proximity to the 3100 mark. Will

we continue to see a bullish market in Rabbit Year

2011?

Well, it’s going to be a roller coaster ride in Rabbit

Year 2011. Maybe even a rougher one than the

previous year. Let’s face it. There isn’t a stock

market that will rise forever and similarly, there isn’t

one that is doomed to free fall. What goes up has

to come down eventually, and when it hits the

bottom, it will start to rise again. It’s only natural.

Just like the relativity of Yin and Yang.

There is no absolute winner in a stock market. The

only way to profit from it is to maximise your win-

nings and minimise your losses. The crucial point

here is timing. Enter the market at the right time

and exit when the wind is changing its direction.

Ride the wave or risk drowning in the rough seas.

No one is an expert in the volatile stock market.

Using Chinese metaphysical forecasting method

and analysing elemental influences, the stock

market outlook in Rabbit Year 2011 seems rocky.

The curve during the first couple of months seems
