movento insecticide - 2012 grape mealybug management guide

Movento ® is a fully systemic insecticide that actively moves through xylem and phloem tissues to reach the site where mealybugs feed. An actively growing vine is essential for the movement of Movento throughout the plant. Post-harvest and fall applications of Movento have been shown to reduce the population of overwintering mealybugs. To optimize the performance of Movento when applied after harvest, follow the guidelines below. CROP AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Canopy conditions Green and healthy leaves Intact leaves, free from damage and prior to senescence Free of physical barriers such as dust or honeydew Weather conditions – Use when projected daily highs will be above 80° F for three weeks following application Applications should follow a post-harvest irrigation Rainfastness – Allow two hours when an aggressive adjuvant is used; allow more time when a less aggressive adjuvant is used PRODUCT GUIDELINES Use Rate: 6 to 8 fl. oz./a, 12.5 fl. oz./a maximum per 12-month period pH requirements – Buffer to a pH of 7 or below Coverage – Use sufficient spray volume to achieve good coverage of canopy while avoiding runoff Adjuvant Methylated Seed Oil (MSO) blend or nonionic surfactant with spreading and penetrating properties (use a rate that will aid leaf penetration) Avoid adjuvants/additives that could cause the spray solution to sheet off the leaf BENEFITS OF MOVENTO Acropetal and basipetal (dual-direction) systemic activity provides excellent pest control in dense crop canopies and on plant roots High level of residual efficacy and protection of new plant growth Reduced fecundity of treated females and reduced survival of offspring Speed of activity faster than Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) Mode of action is ideal for incorporation into resistance management strategies Minimal risk to natural predators, making it an ideal addition to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs POST-HARVEST APPLICATIONS FOR MEALYBUG MANAGEMENT IN GRAPES

DESCRIPTION

Movento Insecticide post-harvest application for grapes provides a high level of residual and protection of new plant growth. By using Movento, the population of overwintering mealybugs decreases. For more information visit: http://www.bayercropscience.us/products/insecticides/movento/

Movento® is a fully systemic insecticide that actively moves through xylem and phloem tissues to reach the site where mealybugs feed. An actively growing vine is essential for the movement of Movento throughout the plant. Post-harvest and fall applications of Movento have been shown to reduce the population of overwintering mealybugs. To optimize the performance of Movento when applied after harvest, follow the guidelines below.

CROP AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Canopy conditions

Green and healthy leaves

Intact leaves, free from damage and prior to senescence

Free of physical barriers such as dust or honeydew

Weather conditions – Use when projected daily highs will be above 80° F for three weeks following application

Applications should follow a post-harvest irrigation

Rainfastness – Allow two hours when an aggressive adjuvant is used; allow more time when a less aggressive adjuvant is used

PRODUCT GUIDELINES

Use Rate: 6 to 8 fl. oz./a, 12.5 fl. oz./a maximum per 12-month period

pH requirements – Buffer to a pH of 7 or below

Coverage – Use sufficient spray volume to achieve good coverage of canopy while avoiding runoff

Adjuvant

Methylated Seed Oil (MSO) blend or nonionic surfactant with spreading and penetrating properties (use a rate that will aid leaf penetration)

Avoid adjuvants/additives that could cause the spray solution to sheet off the leaf

BENEFITS OF MOVENTO

Acropetal and basipetal (dual-direction) systemic activity provides excellent pest control in dense crop canopies and on plant roots

High level of residual efficacy and protection of new plant growth

Reduced fecundity of treated females and reduced survival of offspring

Speed of activity faster than Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs)

Mode of action is ideal for incorporation into resistance management strategies

Minimal risk to natural predators, making it an ideal addition to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs

RESISTANCE MANAGEMENTMovento does not exhibit cross-resistance to insecticides from other chemical classes. To prevent or delay the development of resistance, it is recommended that Movento be applied in a block or window approach where chemical classes having a different mode of action are utilized in rotational sequences.

GOOD IPM COMPATIBILITYMovento is ideal for IPM programs because it does not harm beneficial insects including predacious bugs, parasitic wasps, lacewings and ladybird beetles.

SHOOTS TO ROOTSMovento spreads to areas of new growth – up and down throughout the plant system.

IMPORTANT: This bulletin is not intended to provide adequate information for use of these products. Read the label before using these products. Observe all label directions and precautions while using these products.

FORMULATIONMovento® is formulated as a two-pound active ingredient per gallon suspension concentrate (SC) product. Movento must be tank-mixed with a spray adjuvant/additive having spreading and penetrating properties to maximize leaf uptake and systemicity of the active ingredient within treated plants.

TIMING AND SPRAY COVERAGEMovento is most effective when applied as a preventative or threshold treatment. Good coverage of the target plant parts, based on the size and density of the treated crop, is recommended to facilitate maximum uptake by leaf surfaces.
