We know that life has been different this year and we face yet another challenge that supports keeping everyone safe and well. In many ways it will be ‘business as usual’ (BAU) at this stage with a few changes to help us all continue to minimise the threat posed by Covid-19. So, starting from today, 12 August, all our children are still expected to be present at school, unless they are unwell. If children are unwell, then caregivers need to inform the school (as you normally would). Business as usual – BAU! Classes will continue as normal so teachers will not be working via remote learning whilst we are at Level 2. We will keep you informed through Seesaw, Skool App, our Website and Panui. However, we are required to record all visitors to the school grounds, so we ask parents and caregivers to stay off the school grounds and drop their children off and pick them up at the gate. We do have the Skool App Tracer for your use. We will have staff at gates in the morning and afternoons. In the afternoons we will be releasing students as we previously did at the two main gates. If you have special requirements for collecting your child, please let the school know. If you collect your child/ren through the Three Mile Bush Road gate at 3pm, please remain on the basketball court and students will be brought up to you. If you collect them via Clark Road, your child/ren will be walked down to you by a staff member. If the weather is bad, enter through the Bush Road and Clark Road gates but remain outside your child’s class area and observe social distancing rules please. Please encourage your children to wash or sanitise their hands frequently as you no doubt are. At school all children will be cleaning hands frequently, as well as before eating and after going to the toilet. Although we are exempted from the distancing rules at school, we will not be playing any close contact sports in Level 2. We ask not to hug, kiss, or breathe over other children and or adults at school until this is all over! We ask all adults to refrain from hongi, hugging and kissing each other as well on our grounds. We, like you, are hoping that all going well, Level 2 will only operate for a few days, but we need to be prepared for all eventualities. Safe practice is best practice. Please, please, please, we plea… every newsletter we ask for a spare set of clothes in your child’s bag and we continue to plea for this. We are fast running out of clothes and I will now ask office staff to contact home or at work to collect your child and change them. If you wish to avoid this inconvenience, then please ensure clothes are in bags. Many of you do this and it must be like insurance for them as they are not being needed, but for some reason, those that fall and need to change don’t have a spare set in their bags. Please, if we loan clothes to your child can they be returned to school to replenish our stocks? Thank you. Cross Country – this Friday is cancelled as it will not meet Level 2 requirements. Student Contact – teachers are busy making contact with you all to share any concerns or ideas you have about your child/ren. Teachers in return will share how they view your child/ren as a learner and social being. 2020 has been a different year and that has to be taken into account when we think of learning and social wellbeing gains. On site meetings will still happen observing safe practices. Pedestrian Crossing – teachers and members of the public have mentioned that we have had some radical driving through pedestrian crossings of late. It is not believed to be parents but you need to be aware this is happening. Safety should not even be in question but it is now a common theme arising. Please, if the crossings are not patrolled and you are crossing your child/ren and another child is crossing, or about to, would you take the adult role and see they get across safely as well. We thank you for your support.

Moving to Level 2 - We have done well and can do it again! We know that life has been different this year and we face yet another challenge that supports keeping everyone safe and well. In many ways it will be ‘business as usual’ (BAU) at this stage with a few changes to help us all continue to minimise the threat posed by Covid-19.

Writing about Winter Waterlogged Winter I don’t like winter because it is very very cold and when I go to school I get very wet. I do not like rain because it is so loud and I do not like it inside. I like to play outside and we have to wear long pants and jerseys. The sky is always grey . Talal Khan

Winter is Cool! I love winter because we can build a snowman. We can eat butter popcorn. Instead of the shimmering sun shining over me I can watch movies. We toast marshmellows on top of the flaming fire. I play with my adorable kittens in winter every day. Emily MacLeod

Winter is Cool! I love winter because I can play with the white fluffy snow. Also I can eat my favourite warm food and instead of the hot sun blazing on me I can sit around the hot fire and I can roast yummy smores on the hot fire and drink hot chocolate. Isabella Liang

Board of Trustees – our team of parent representatives voted by our wonderful community met last Tuesday. They are all very excited with the new canopy that will cover the main block. We have approval but are not sure when it begins with the current construction demands. We will keep you posted. The Board of Trustees is also continuing to work through Out of Zone placements and requests.

School Definitions – we would like to remind the community of the definitions we use with our students in relation to an Accident – we define that as, “When someone does or says something that hurts you BUT they didn’t mean to, that's an accident.” For Unkind – we define that as “When someone does or says something that hurts you and they meant to, that’s unkind.” Finally, for Bullying – we define that as “When someone keeps on doing or saying things that hurt you ON PURPOSE, even when you have asked them to stop, that's bullying.” We hope this helps you to understand what we do at KPS.

School Values – PRIDE – Proactive, Respect, Independence, Determination and Empathy are still exceptionally important to us. At the end of this term we will acknowledge those students who strive to meet these values.

Christmas or Birthday shopping hint…We have had, and still have, a few classes of Bike Readiness to complete and our students have loved it! What has been super exciting to see are those children who have never ridden a bike before learning how to do it and enjoy the pleasure riding brings. Thought I would drop that hint out there and reiterate the fact that we have so many great cycle tracks with more to come!

Incident – Last week two of our wonderful road patrollers experienced an incident that was unacceptable by a member of the public. The matter has been transferred to the Police and is under investigation. The students are safe and should never have had to experience unacceptable adult behaviour. We appreciate all concerns around this matter and are planning forward.
