This bi-monthly Village advertising programme is designed to highlight the Village as a well stocked destination where you can get what you want while not having to travel far, ie, a “Shop Local” theme. The additional promotion is to give new customers the opportunity to visit a Village business they may not have frequented while at the same time rewarding loyal customers by giving them a chance to enter into our competition. Each ad encourages the reader to make a purchase with the listed store and ‘enter and win’ the featured competition to win the prize pack. Each business listed receives a competition entry box, poster and entry forms and is requested to promote the competition to their customers. At the end of the promotion the competition boxes will be collected and a winner announced. Your challenge is to have at the end of the promotion the most entries from your business! You never know—there might be a prize. The Village advertising programme will run 6 times per year and each time the focus will be on a different sector of the Village businesses. Watch out for the February/March issue of The Gardens, our ad will be highlighting ‘Art and Books’, the next sector scheduled for June will have a focus on ‘Out to Lunch’. Want to know more? Executive Committee Artists in Eden Day—Saturday March 16

Eden Arts has been around for over 25 years and continues to host events such as Artists in Eden Day and the Young Artists Awards (September). Eden Arts is a charitable trust run by volunteers with the aim of making the arts accessible to the local community. Eden Artspeak is a series of evening art talks in the 3 weeks (Feb 26 to March 5 and March 12) leading up to Artists in Eden Day, titled Auckland Art 101—’What you need to know about Art in Auckland this year’ and includes guest speakers Artist Richard Killeen and Chris Saines of Auckland Art Gallery. To find out more visit www.edenarts.co.nz

Artists in Eden Day is a fabulous day for all, with artists set up in Essex Reserve to complete their artwork of Mt Eden, Maungawhau and at 2.30pm there is a hustle and bustle to mark the beginning of the auction. All artwork will be auctioned and proceeds go towards promoting the arts in Mt Eden, including funding the Young Artists Awards which are held later in the year. And there's fun and creation activities for the kids to get involved in.

Village Fete Saturday April 6 — the date should already

be marked in your diary. This year the theme will be Asia, so put your hands on some fabric and dress your store with the colours of Asia. We will be decorating the Village with lanterns and flags, so put your thinking cap on and start planning. The theme takes in the flavours of India, China, Pakistan,

Kazhakstan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Mongolia, Korea, Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, amongst others. There are just mountains of ideas to choose from (in terms of flavours, colours, props, costumes and music, etc) and celebrate. Our friends from Mt Eden Rotary will be assisting and there will be music and dancing in the street. Street performers and other entertainment. We hope there will be lots of different types of food to tempt visitors and shoppers alike. Street trading will be permitted for Village businesses only. Permits will be obtained but we remind you that this privilege is only for our Village businesses. Please refrain from inviting non Village businesses to take part as these have caused issues in the past (eg. Hawkers which have competed with our Village businesses). Trestle tables are available at $50 + GST (which also covers the cost of the table hire and street trading permit). Table cloths will be provided. The table will be delivered to your store and then collected at the conclusion of the event.

Preparation for the event will start early. Trestle tables will be delivered by our friends from Mt Eden Rotary from 7.30am onwards and the entertainment will begin at 11am. Please note the event will begin to wind down from 3pm and tables will be collected from 3.30pm. Start your planning, search the web for ideas but most of all get organised to trade on the footpath. The colour and energy for this event comes from the businesses being involved and trading on the street. This event is our signature event for the year and it is all about Village businesses. It’s your chance to feature your business, your stock, your food and your style. Celebrate this with our community at the Village Fete on Saturday April 6. Trestle Table bookings:

Over the next few weeks we will be contacting you to ensure you are on track and ready to take part, your trestle table is booked and if you are needing any inspiration. your event trestle table. Don’t leave it to the last minute, book your trestle table now by contacting Claire on 021 652 246 or email [email protected]

Mother’s Day Sunday May 12 This year we’re going to be using The Gardens magazine and feature ideas and Village suggestions for our Mums and a competition for one lucky Mum. Similar to our Father’s Day competition those Village businesses who donated a product or service to the prize pamper pack will be listed in the ad, on our website and promoted on our Facebook page. To be involved, please email or phone us before April 5 with your donation to the Mothers Day prize pamper pack. Every customer who makes a purchase in your store can go in the draw to win their Mum a fantastic Village Mother’s Day Pamper pack plus a

$100 Village dining voucher. Of we receive enough products and services, we will offer more than one prize (we had three winners for Fathers Day thanks you your response).

Events coming up >>> Village Update >>> Auckland Council Draft Annual Plan 2013/2014 >>> Each year the Auckland Council and the 21 Local Boards put together a draft annual plan for public consultation.
