Session Objectives

Be able to describe a range of emerging technologies – the hardware involved, how they work and benefits they offer,

Understand the impacts of emerging technologies on people and society.

Emerging Technologies ICT doesn’t stand still and technology is constantly

evolving and new devices / concepts are released, What technologies are currently emerging??

Cloud computing, Greater storage capacities, HTML 5, Mobile networking, On-Line Gaming, Remote monitoring (RMON), Server virtualisation, Tablet computers, Teleworking, Video on demand, Voice over IP (VoIP), Web interfacing.

Greater use of biometrics IP v6 QR Codes VDI

For the assignment For each technology you need to be able to

produce: A description of the technology

What it offers, how it works, what we would do without it Examples of the technology

A solid example of how the technology is being used. This might be a scenario, the hardware involved or a description of how the emerging technology is used.

Good aspects of the technology What you think is good about the technology

Bad aspects What you think is bad about the technology.

Impacts of the technology How the technology will affect people and society – both

postive and negatively.

Evidencing P3 TASK 1 PART B

This task requires you to add some notes to your presentation which identify and describe three emerging technologies,

The assignment suggests server virtualisation, video on demand and IPv6 but it could be any three from those covered in topic 7 which you find interesting,

Include within your notes – A description of the technology, examples of the technology and when used, good aspects, bad aspects, impacts of the technology,

Remember to only include the main points within your presentation and add detail using the speaker notes.

For P3 an emerging technology is defined as any recent network technology! Identify means that you point out and give a list of the main features.
