As the cooler weather is here, I have noticed some

children opting to wear non uniform clothing. Our

winter uniform has a school jacket which is very warm.

Items of clothing are available from the uniform pool

which is open on every Friday morning. Students are

still expected to wear the broad brimmed hat in winter.

All students representing the school during excursions

or cultural events are expected to be in full winter

school uniform. Please ensure all clothing is clearly

marked with your child’s name.

A reminder that this weekend the P&C will be running

an Election Day Cake and Craft Stall. All donations of

cakes and slices would be greatly appreciated and can

be left at the school on Friday or delivered to the stall

on Saturday. If any parent can help out on Saturday it

would be greatly appreciated. A note was sent home

last Monday with details of who to contact to help out.

This note is on the school website for those parents

who have not seen it.

1/2S CLASS NEWS It has been a busy and exciting start to the term for

us. We have welcomed Mary and Sharlett to our class.

Congratulations to Zara Smith who came first in her

age group at the Cross Country recently. We are very

proud of you, Zara. Best wishes for your next race at

district level.

Everyone is looking forward to our trip to the Armidale

Folk Museum next Monday. We have been learning

about oral history and stories as part of our HSIE unit

Families Past & Present. This week we are talking to our

parents and grandparents about special memories so we

can construct a time line of events. Please return this

homework task to school by Friday.

In Literacy our current theme is Monsters and Aliens.

We thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Monsters in the Mailbox’ last week and as part of our comprehension

skills, we asked many very exciting “I wonder”

questions. This week we are reading ‘A Monster Wrote Me a Letter’ and will focus on visualising skills. We

have drawn some very funny mixed up monsters that we

are currently writing descriptions about. You should see

how scary and crazy they are!

Next Tuesday we will be participating in the Armidale

Eisteddfod out at the University. Permission notes

went home last Monday for this event. Please return as

soon as possible.

Enjoy the rest of this term and the many more

activities coming up.

1/2P CLASS NEWS What a busy, but fun, start to Term 2 for 1/2P! We

are all excited with our ‘Wizard of Oz’ theme for

Literacy. We are reading the book and have watched

the movie. We have made our very own laptops and

emailed our favourite Wizard of Oz characters. We

have researched Tornadoes and are looking forward to

doing information reports on Lions.

This week we went on our HSIE excursion to the

Armidale Folk Museum where we had so much fun

learning about our local history.

We thoroughly enjoyed practising the Macarena and

performing it at the fete and now we are really looking

forward to performing in the K–2 Choir at the upcoming

Armidale Eisteddfod. Wow … did we mention what a

busy term we are having?

Mrs Tina Rubie

Class Teacher

News from 5/6J On the 29 May our Stage 3 Choir will be performing at

the Eisteddfod. Students need to wear their white

sports shirt and winter uniform. This means that boys

have long grey trousers, grey socks and black shoes.

Girls need to wear their school skorts or skirt with

navy blue stockings or knee high navy blue socks and

black shoes. We are very excited and looking forward

to this opportunity.

In class and in our library time we have been working on

our descriptive language and similes. We would like to

share some of our writing about Autumn that we did

with Mrs Docksey. We went outside and sat under the

beautiful deciduous trees in our playground wrote

poems.

Autumn Orange leaves fall as the wind goes by.

Bark strips off trees like humans shed skin.

Dark grey clouds in different shapes and sizes.

Leaves, all different shapes and sizes in piles.

By Isobel Harris

The yellow and orange leaves fall

Dead and crackling

No longer connected

In a way it’s a war against time

Who is next?

Again dead crackling leaves fall

Like bricks.

By Callum Watson

When I sit among the leaves, all I see is a million

dreams.

Like a rainbow from the sky

Off comes a leaf to fly, fly, fly!

Then comes the breeze upon my cheek

I see the trees life gleam.

3/4T CLASS NEWS Stage 2 have been looking at celebrations from around

the world and it appears 3/4T have taken a particular

interest in one celebration that takes place in Turkey.

Çocuk Bayrami is the celebration of children. 3/4T have

unanimously decided that this is one celebration that is

lacking from the Australian calendar and are very

enthusiastic about giving persuasive reasons as to why

this is the case. Below is a class summary of the

information students found relating to the Çocuk

Bayrami celebration.

“ On April 23, Turkey celebrates Cocuk Bayrami, or

Children’s Day. Children all over Turkey dress up in

special outfits or national costume for Cocuk Bayrami.

Many children perform in plays or musicals. The former

Turkish leader, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk declared the

holiday in 1920.“

ACPS Mothers Day Fete

Saturday 11 May 2013 A great team of parents and school community

members pulled together on Saturday morning to bring

the fete alive. It was great to have some new stalls

such as the Indian Food and Sushi although your

morning was a little slow, so glad you sold out in the

end. The Photo Booth was very popular, what a great

concept!

The Craft stall came out on top as the best fund raising

group, congratulations to the crafty team! Next was

the Sheep Poo stall, that terrific Deeargee manure!

Then the Cakes stall and the Garden Café, such a

beautiful tasty array of treats. The BBQ team kept the

food going throughout the day and also sold out.

Pete Stanley and crew kept the entertainment rolling

on after Phil Jones officially opened the day. The

Macarena was great, always fun watching most of the

performers going the same way and a few creating

their own moves. The Pet Show brought four legged

friends in all shapes & sizes and lots of excited owners.

Then the fascinating Labyrinth was set up, how great

was that tricky maze?!

The raffle was well supported and congratulations to

the winners: 1st prize - the wood won by D Cook,

Chocolates won by H Simpson & Pamper Pack by T

Patton. And all those donated bottles for the Bottle

Stall raised lots for the school – thank-you everyone.

Plants and book donations were also great fund raisers

and it was very busy at the White Elephant, Toys &

Clothing Stall.

Thank-you to all the stall holders, everyone who gave up

their time on the day and in the weeks leading up to the

event. The fete is a big day and every effort is

appreciated.

Thank-you to everyone who turned up to support the

fete on the day! Without you it would not be a success.

Please return your evaluation forms, we would like to

hear your feedback to help us make it an even better

event in the future.

Best wishes the Fete Committee
