Precious Memories
Willie was born Thursday, October 9, 1930 in Kilgore, Texas to the parentage of William and Geneva Woods Dean. After an extended illness, on Thursday, July16, 2015 he departed this life at Longview Regional Hospital in Longview, Texas.
He attended Kilgore Colored High School where he played football and graduated in 1949. For many years and up until his demise he was an avid supporter and served as an officer of the KCHS-C. B. Dansby High School Alumni/Ex-Student Associations.
After graduation he attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas prior to being drafted into the U. S. Army. He served in the military from April 10, 1951 to March 3, 1953 and attained the rank of Corporal.
His 32-year work career concluded with retirement from Stroh’s Brewery where he was also a shift/job steward union representative.
He was on the cradle roll at Kilgore Baptist Church where he regularly accompanied his deacon and deaconess parents to church until his profession of faith was given for membership at the age of eight years old. During his 77 year tenure, with only short absences for military service and a brief departure during his latter years, he served in many capacities.
Some of his care given to the church included being a member of the Senior Choir, service on the Finance Committee, serving as a Deacon for 50 years, Sunday School Superintendent and as a Trustee, and in other areas as needed.
On June 7, 1953, Willie united in holy matrimony with Vernon L. Bradford. Later in 1968, Willie Antonio Dean was added to the family as their son.
His parents and his wife of 60 years all preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Willie Antonio Dean of Tennessee Colony, TX; a sister, Inez “Puddin” Dean of Dallas, Texas; an uncle, Murray Woods of Kilgore, TX; a special cousin, Janice Woods Puryear of St. Louis, MO and many other relatives and friends.
