Happy Memorial Day, everyone. I know its at the end of the month, but this is my best chance to say it to as many people as possible. It is a great holiday, you know. We get an extra day off work, it is the official kickoff to most summertime events, but more importantly it is a holiday to remember. Yes, to remember those that have passed fighting for our freedoms. I know too many times I take for granted what I have, and its easy to forget why I have it. Please take a moment not only on Memorial Day this year, but every day of the year to remember the brave men and women who have died for our freedoms and are right now as we speak risking their lives so you and I can do the things we love to do.

Speaking of things we love to do, hot dog, the racing season is off and running. By now, most of you should have the cobwebs worked out. All the series are in full swing, and the flowers are blooming and

all that happy stuff, and its time to do some serious racing.

In this issue, find coverage of many of the motocross series openers,

along with a little flat track and some harescramble racing. Check out our MRA Heroes and all of the upcoming events. Please remember also to check our web offerings, where youll find more great racing

photos, results and so much more. Most importantly, reach

out to our advertisers because they are the

ones that pay the bills. Hey, we all love to see our name in print, so lets buck up and throw them as much love as we can. Besides, you all need stuff; just please be sure to tell them you saw their ad here. It keeps them motivated.

T h a n k s again for reading, and well see you all at the track.

The first weekend of spring brought Pagodas first of two MDRA rounds to their facility in Birdsboro, PA. Due to unseasonably warm weather and dry conditions in prior weeks, the riders were able to get a lot of seat time in, and many looked like they were in mid-season form. A good rider turnout also laid the groundwork for an entertaining afternoon of racing.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the racers were unleashed out onto the track to test out its integrity. There were a few new twists and turns built into the layout, as some riders over the past winter had mentioned in their discussions of different ways to improve the racing. Some suggested changing the track layout from race to race, and this message was well received. Randy Kastle, club president, and the Pagoda club members had the track groomed to perfection. A new section of S-turns after the long straightaway kept riders close. I received mixed feelings about the S-turns as some riders liked the two-line design and others just shook there heads. Either way, it did make for some tight racing in that corner.

After practice was completed on the big track, I decided to venture down onto the mini track to catch some of the action there. The gate was filling up with the 50cc (4 6) stock class, and when the gate dropped, Jude Smerlick #06 launched his KTM out into the lead. Although hounded by #711 Ryder Reitz and #24 Levi Leatherman, the young Smerlick was able to hold on to win both of his motos. The 50 cc beginners saw Nathan Smith open up a comfortable lead, leaving Mason Tucker and James Dickinson to duel it out for 2nd and 3rd place overall.

Back up on the big track, the 50 cc (4-8) Open class was ready to go. This is always a fun class to watch, as the field is loaded with talented young riders. After getting a bad start, Chris Sweeney got in the zone, picking off riders with precision as he used every cc in that motor to bring home both first-place finishes on the day.

Not to be outdone, Michael Corcoran and Dominic Amilcare rode in each others shadows all day long, and in the end Amilcare won out, wheeling his Cobra to an overall win in 50 cc stock (7-8).

The 85cc (9-11) B and Jr. Mini class was dominated by Austin Daniels, who won both motos in each division. Brad Kenny pushed hard in Jr. Mini to keep pace with Daniels but fell short, finishing 2nd overall.

Michael Giovanniello won School Boy, and College Boy action saw William Carling put his Kawasaki through its paces to put together two first-place finishes. Carling was also a winner in Open B. The Open C class stacked 30 riders in the gate, and Ricky Deck and his Honda moved up through the pack to support his overall win.

The 45+class featured a three-way fight with Marty Harms, Brad Stepp and William Peoples battling each other all afternoon, finishing 1, 2, 3, respectively.

Not to overlook any of the classes, above were just some of the highlights for the day. There is always great riding to be seen in all divisions, and 42 motos later the final flag dropped and round # 2 of the MDRA 6 Series was in the books.

PENNSYLVANIA SHORT TRACK MASON-DIXON FAIRGROUNDS Mullens Master Mason Dixon Short Track By Len & Ben Breech DELTA, PA. MARCH 31

Led by Donnies three wins, Team Coatesvilles Mullen family showed the way at the Baltimore County Trail Riders-sponsored short track at the Mason Dixon Fairgrounds. With the traditional Mid-Atlantic short track opener at Trail-Way Speedway rained out for the first time in over a decade, the season opener fell to multi-use track located right on the Mason-Dixon line. And when racing is run on these small created tracks that are on the schedule, the dominant rider over the past few years has been National number 71, Donnie Mullen. Tonight he took his usual Open A and 450 Sportsman class wins and tonight added the 30 + to his resume. The surprise was the other Mullens. His nephew, Zach, making his first start, survived a second turn traffic jam to grab the 250 B lead for his first win.

The Open A was over as they exited two on the opening lap, as Donnie had a two-length lead over Mike Poe, Brett Friedel and Tyler Phillips. The order stayed the same but close in the battle for second. With two laps to go, Phillips got by Friedel for third.

The 450 Sportsman was similar, with Cory Strickler, Poe, Travis Diem and Colton Smith. Diem slipped back while the others had a close battle for second. The 30+ had Mullen winning by half a lap from Roy Miller, Steve Lerch and Rick Winsett.

The opening race is usually a crap shoot in the Amateur classes, as last years dominant riders have moved up to Experts and some of the mini riders got new toys for Christmas. On this small track, starts are very important. After a mid-pack finish in the heat, Zack Mullen emerged from a second turn traffic jam with the 250 B lead over Colin Cunningham, Chris Kirkner, Dalton Gauthier and Anthony Crabbe. Kirkner drifted back a few spots, while Smith took fourth from Crabbe into three on the fifth lap. Over the rest of the race, the front four stayed close, but Mullen held on for his first win.

Crabbe led the Open B final wire to wire from Ben Ludlow, Brian Nuse, Matt Trout and Mike Sponseller. The order stayed the same to the end with just a length or two between each.

The 124 Two Stroke/150 Four Stroke final was another close, unchanged final with Tyler Rylee leading Josh Owens and Chase Smith in the hotly contested battle for the lead.

With Rylee being the only 85 (12-15) rider entered, he was assured of a win in that class, which was combined with the 85 (7-11). He took the lead from former Youth Rider of the Year Brandon Price, Matt Scibek and Doug Cook. Rylee and Price pulled away, with Price finally taking the lead into one on the sixth lap.

Earlier, Price easily won the 65 class over Cook, Damon Ream Karl Wheeler and Scibek. Ream fell on the third lap, with Scibek taking third around halfway.

Current Youth Rider of the Year Tyler Scott had an easy time winning the 50 Shaft Drive and 50 Chain Drive classes, with Ethan Stroh taking second in both classes.

Roy Miller held off spirited attempts by Nick Henderson for the 250 Sportsman win. Travis Diem, Colton Smith and Kevin Bills battled for third. Smith took third halfway, with Bills and Dalton Gauthier close behind Smith to the end of the race.

Brett Friedel checked out in the 45 + final, leading Don Mullen Sr., Darren Phillips and Bill Young. Friedel won by over half a lap and lapped up to the fourth-place rider.

After dominating the Womens heat race, Erin Kissinger looked like a winner in the final, and she led off two, but she fell right after and was run over by another rider. She was hobbling but made the restart and was second to Samantha Resch at the end of the opening lap. For the rest of the race, Kissinger pressured Resch for the lead but came up a few feet short at the line.

Until I can put all my thoughts onto paper, here were my initial feelings about our second event of our 5th season: We were more mentally and physically prepared for the number that was predicted, so it was just the normal nerves of getting through the weekend with minimal drama and issues that come with all races, especially at this size. Sunday evening, this is what crossed my mind when I sat down: KERPOW! SLAM! HOLY DIRTBIKE BATMAN IT HAPPENED AGAIN!

With two events under our belt, we are averaged at 965 riders per event. Our scoring and registration crew is outstanding. They are the front lines of making the whole weekend go smoothly. Thank you for being respectful to them. Our trail/course boys put a lot of care into what they lay out for you to ride. They also ride, so they give you what they want and know it will be fun but challenging. There are many behind-the-scene workers that put much dedication into the NEOC that ensures the success of each event. This is a joint effort by a mass of wonderful people I call my friends. I am more overwhelmed by the love and power of these people than by the number of riders that are flooding into race what these NEOC workers are creating. Please always remember that what you are racing and enjoying throughout the weekend has been prepared in months and weeks prior to the event date by their labor of love for this sport and each other.

Thanks to all for coming, and please view my full race report, videos, results and pictures posted on our website at www.neocracing.org. See you next time.

Sleepy HollowRound 1 Mainline Series Fredericksburg, PA April 1, 2012 By: Jim Bull Photo.com

This years Mainline series kicked off at the Sleepy Hollow MX Park on a fairly mild day in early April. Attendance was average, but the racing was red hot. Most racers I spoke with on this day said it was the best Sleepy racetrack that they had ridden on in some time. Jere and the crew at Sleepy have been working hard early season to keep things fresh and their track surface in above average condition for the racing portion of their program.

This was round 1 of 8 for this series, which takes place here and at Pagoda between now and early August. All Balls Racing is the main series sponsor, with Honda offering contingency at 6 of the 8 rounds.

Check out some of the action here, and be sure to log onto our website to catch the rest. Round two will be in the books till your reading this, with round 3 right back here at Sleepy on May 6.

Your 45 plus champ for the day is Ralph Feltman

    from Lancaster, PA.

Bryce Walborn wins Supermini and 85cc

    (12-15) on the day.

What do you think this could bring on eBay?

Colby Fisher lays it out for the Open C win.

ECS Honda rider Chuck Aughinbaugh wins the newbie class with headlight and trials tire in tow.

Round 3 of 10 of the MDRA Quad Series made its stop at the all natural terrain track of the Evansville MX Park on April 6-7, bringing with it plenty of sunshine and a beautiful weekend.

All the riders had their chance to try out the new layout of the track during practice the day before and the morning of the race. The new layout turned the course backwards, allowing for some of the jumps to be much more fun. Also, track owner Duane Fisher worked very hard all week long to change the track around to add a long straightaway going down into the field with a couple of small jumps. He also added an 80-foot table top jump before you head down the old uphill to the bottom of the track.

Riders were greeted with plenty of sunshine and lots of wind. The whole week before race weekend was sunny and very dry, and it didnt leave any moisture in the ground, which made a dusty track later that afternoon.

We have to give huge thumbs up to the Evansville track workers for trying to keep the moisture on the track. No matter what they tried, they could not keep in front of the dry, windy conditions. With no rain in site and temperatures in the mid 50s to lower 60s, the hot afternoon sun dried the track pretty quickly.

You can check out the results at www.mdramxracing.com, and be sure to log onto www.AwesomePhotos.com to check out the latest racing photos from this event, and you can even purchase photos online.

Happy Ramblers hosted round # 2 of the MDRA 7 Series in what turned out to be a great day of racing in central Pennsylvania. Happy had just under 500 racers, while Pagoda MC ran a Pro Am event and had just over 550. Thats a great turnout for racers in what has been a pretty decent start to the 2012 season. I would say, however, that this was our best day yet.

Some of the racers that keep ending up at the top of the heap this year so far are names like Callin Cauffman, Jay Covert and Carson Cahill in the 50 divisions. Jason Neidigh, Andrew Day and Scott Meshey in the mini classes. Long-timers like Jeremy Cook had a great day at Happy. Austin Toskov is back on the scene and running hard, and Kyle Snider and Brandon Grimm duked it out in the C division. Then there are the age class guys; they keep coming around and kicking butt -- iron men, if you will. Gaylon Dickson, Mike Farmer, Brad Stepp, and Jeff Yentzer gets back on a bike, says hes rusty and goes out and rides like he never stopped.

If this is a preview of the year to come, I say hold on; its going to be good. Check out all of the results at www.MDRAmxracing.com, and well see you next time.

    THE YEAR OF THE SHIFT

    By: Roger Nowell

Shift! Shift! I remember yelling these words to my son as he made his way around the track on his Honda Z50R and next on his KX60. He never heard me inside that helmet, in his own world, as he screamed around the track in first gear. More about that in a minute.

My name is Roger Nowell. You probably dont know me by name, but maybe you saw me at one of the tracks in the last seven years at chapel services with Zach Camp and Victory in Jesus ministries. Im the guy, now along with my son, with the guitar, singing crazy songs about skunks and cartoons getting saved. I currently serve as chaplain for raceday services at Doublin Gap. On racedays at around 10 a.m., you can find my son and I worshiping God in song and preaching His Word. Please join us!

As many of you know, shifting is necessary when racing. You may need to shift your position at the starting gate; you need to shift through the gears to accelerate in straight-aways; you may need to shift down to climb or to bust out of a turn; you may need to shift your lines on the track to make a pass; you may even shift your thinking about the brand of your ride.

Each one of us finds ourselves in a certain level of relationship with God. Perhaps you are a new Christian; maybe youve been a Christian for many years; perhaps youre on fire for God and madly in love with Him; maybe your relationship with God is just blah; or, maybe, you dont have a relationship with God at all.

My challenge to you: no matter where you find yourself with God, its time to shift. SHIFT! SHIFT! Remember those words I yelled to my son? Maybe you yelled the same words. I believe God wants each one of us to shift. I suppose shifters come in any number of brands, styles, and weights for quads and bikes. God has given us only one shifter. It doesnt break or bend. It isnt too heavy or too light. Gods Word, the Bible. Maybe you need to receive Jesus as your Saviour and start a new relationship with God. If youve been a Christian for a long time, perhaps you need to think new and fresh about your life in light of Gods Word. Or maybe youre somewhere in between.

No matter if youre racing, or just going about your life, or both, the ultimate finish line is eternal life with Jesus. I ask you, do you need to shift to make it? If you want a relationship with Jesus, please contact MRA, and they can tell you how to get in touch with me. Thanks for reading. See you at Doublin Gap and who knows where else!

For the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
