Attendance
Attendance is mandatory for success!
School starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. Students that come in after the bell rings WILL be marked TARDY and will need to sign in at office.
Our expectation is that your child will be at school, on time, each and every day! We will be academically engaged bell to bell.

• Read fluently at 137 words per minute or more
• Apply all comprehension skills and strategies to read at or above grade level
• Meet and exceed our AR word count goals:Proficient - 150,000 wordsAdvanced - 450,000 words
• Write a multi-paragraph story with correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar
We will focus on the following three types of writing: opinion, narrative, & expository.

Field Trip
• The third grade classes will be attending the Western Science Center in Hemet, California at Diamond Valley Lake.
• If you plan to attend the field trip, PLEASE get your fingerprint clearance as soon as possible!

All assessments will be grade using the following grading scale:
101%+ Standard Exceeded (4)
80%-100% Standard Met (3)
60%-79% Standard Nearly Met (2)

Math Homework
1. Please ensure that your child brings his/her homework, agendas, and AVID binder back to school daily.
2. Agendas must be signed by a parent or guardian every day including Friday.
3. Weekly math packets will go home on Monday and are due on Friday at the beginning of math class.
ELA Homework
Please ensure that your child brings his/her homework, agendas, and AVID binder back to school daily.
Agendas must be signed by a parent or guardian every day (M0nday – Thursday). Please sign the agenda to confirm that homework has been completed and Agenda has been read for that day.
1. Read AR book for 30 minutes every day.
2. Spelling Practice (due daily)
3. Please encourage your child to practice weekly spelling and vocabulary words daily. Do not wait until the day before the test to study! Vocabulary and Spelling tests are given every Friday.
Volunteers
All volunteers MUST be fingerprinted each year. Please see Mrs. Smith in the office for more information.
• Please be sure to obtain your fingerprint clearance asap if you would like to volunteer for the fieldtrip. It is a lengthy process and cannot be completed at the time of the fieldtrip.
• Please consider joining the Helping Hands Team on campus!!!! They are an amazing group of parent volunteers and they help everyone here at Hemmerlingin so many ways! We are so grateful for their support!
