GRADING POLICY:

Tests and projects – 40 %

Quizzes/Classwork / homework/ worksheets –40%

Oral classwork and oral quizzes – 20%

(Participation and preparation will count as a class work grade each 9 Wk. grading period.)

*One extra work grade per quarter, if less than 70 on a test for up to 10 points.

Class materialsEach student is to keep a folder in order to keep all work together and be prepared for class each day. The binder will be checked periodically throughout the quarter. The binder should contain the following sections HOMEWORK – clearly labeled with title and page numberQUIZZES– clearly labeled with title TESTS

HOMEWORK AND CLASS ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Homework assignments will be given once a week Homework is the opportunity to practice the lesson learned during that week.

2. Assignments must be completed and turned in on time. All assignments will begin with the St. Matthew heading (posted in the class).

Late assignment: deduction of 20 points on first day and 50 on second. After 2 days = 0

Each assignment will have the page number (if any) from the book and the title of the assignment written on the paper directly under the heading.

3. All assignments must be done on loose leaf paper (not notebook or copy paper) or completed on the iPad and sent via eBackpack. A sample header is listed in the classroom all year. Points are deducted for incomplete header.

4. All textual material must be neat, legible and of a readable size.  TEXTBOOK: We will be using the Mc Graw Hill, ¡Asi se dice! Level 1. Spanish book. It will be available trough their Ipads on e-backpack.

Welcome to Exploring the Ocean

In this course we will be learning and researching about the ocean properties, creatures and ecosystems. We will explore different habitats including some the most challenging places to live on planet earth. We will talk about biodiversity, how it is threatened by human activities and what we can do to preserve our oceans. Each child will have the opportunity to research on a few specific organisms that they are interested in getting to know deeply. They will also create their own habitat as a final project.

Students : no book. Notes , handouts.

Welcome to 5th P Religion

GOAL:  The goal of the class is to gain a better of the Gospel Values of love, faith, community, hope, reconciliation, service, justice, and courage. Our religion class will take us on a journey through the New Testament, beginning with the life of Jesus Christ. We will also work towards a better understanding of our Catholic Liturgy, the Beatitudes, the Corporal Works of Mercy, and key items and clothing used during Mass.

Mass: students will be involved in planning for and participating in liturgies. We will plan one mass.

Service ours: 12 behavior ours are required for the year. Students must have at least 2 different service activities and no more than 6 hours from one activity may be counted towards the 12 outs. Students may record more than the 12 required hours.

HOMEWORK POLICY: refer to Middle school homework policy.

RETREAT: one usually in January
