LANGUAGE ARTS CURRICULUM
• My Math• In grade 6, instructional time should focus on
four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division, and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking.

MATH CURRICULUM
• Students in grade six expand their understanding of history by studying the people and events that ushered in the dawn of the major Western and non-Western ancient civilizations. Geography is of special significance in the development of the human story. Continued emphasis is placed on the everyday lives, problems, and accomplishments of people, their role in developing social, economic, and political structures, as well as in establishing and spreading ideas that helped transform the world forever. Students develop higher levels of critical thinking by considering why civilizations developed where and when they did, why they became dominant, and why they declined. Students analyze the interactions among the various cultures, emphasizing their enduring contributions and the link, despite time, between the contemporary and ancient worlds.

HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. • Independent practice page from My Math book (nightly)• 60 min IXL Math (weekly)• 15 min IXL Language Arts (nightly)• 1 article Achieve3000 plus activities (weekly )• A personal reading book 30 min every night (Sunday through
Sunday)
• Students will track their progress on IXL and work at differentiated levels to help fill in gaps in their mathematical foundational understandings

Late Work:
• Students will be reminded of their missing class work for one week, and no penalty will be applied. After one week students will no longer be reminded for that assignment though assignments will be accepted until the end of that quarter.
• Students have until Sunday night to complete homework then it will no longer be accepted.
• Projects/essays that are late will be assessed penalties. Each day the project is late will result in the lowering of one letter grade until the grade is a 0.

SUPPLIES
• We are planning on two field trips this year plus a culminating sleep away camp event
• The field trip cost is a requested donation of $30 ($15 per trip)
• Lyle Center- Cal Poly Pomona (Quarter 2)• Getty Villa (Quarter 3)
• Pali Camp is $350 per student• We hope to bring down this cost through fund raising
• “Nacho-Average Thursdays” • Parents help through donations of chips, cheese, crock pot liners, boats• Also parents can volunteers to help students set up and sell throughout the
year from 2:10- 2:50
• The office has options for ongoing payment plans throughout the year as well
