When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with Jackson, my dog, doing arts and crafts, and volunteering in the community.

Hi! My name is Ms. Billups, I will be your scholar’s co-teacher this school year. I was born & raised in Baltimore, MD, where I have taught gardening & nutrition over the summer for the past 7 years.

While working alongside Ms. Clary I will also be pursuing my master’s degree in Elementary Education from Johns Hopkins University. In my free time I love to cook, garden and spend time with David, my godson.

Hello, my name is Mrs. Tucker. I will be presenting the content of the Language program. I am looking forward to meeting all our students! This is my 7th year working at HHA.

When I am not at school, I enjoy walking in the woods, reading and spending time with my family. I am excited about this school year and meeting our first graders.

Reading Mastery Signature 1

By the end of this program, the students will be able to read several thousand words. They read, practice sounds and words, and learn to follow written directions. They also learn to recognize uppercase letters. Throughout RMS 1, students work on reading faster and with fewer mistakes. The take home worksheets now have written directions and questions which the students read independently.

Signature Language/Reasoning and Writing

The language program teaches children to listen carefully and follow directions, exactly. They learn to understand what they hear, reason logically, and explain things clearly. Other topics include:

· Opposites and Synonyms · Absurdities

· Same/Different · Past, Present and Future

Primary Mathematics: Singapore Math

This program focuses on in-depth understanding of the essential math skills using workbooks, textbooks and manipulatives. Explanations of math concepts are exceptionally clear and simple and at times may seem slow paced, but build a strong math foundation. Some topics that will be covered this year are: addition/subtraction up to 100, shapes, length, graphs, time, and money. The program is based on the mathematical concepts that should be taught from concrete to pictorial to abstract.

During Enrichment and Read Aloud students study important thematic topics while focusing attention

on meeting the Common Core State Standards. Standards are used every day in many different ways during reading, language, and math but using the Core Knowledge program and other

outside books allows for a richer focus of these standards. Here a few topics studied and

Lectura Master 1: (Reading Mastery Signature 1)Al final de este nivel, los estudiantes podrán leer varios miles de palabras. Este año tenemos un fabuloso programa de Conocimiento Básico, trata sobre Las Fabulas, La Astronomía y Las Mismas Historias de Diferentes Lugares, y los Hábitats de Animales. Los estudiantes escucharán historias y luego las extenderemos con actividades de escritura.
