As you prepare to meet with your parents and share your progress in school, please use the provided documents and suggestions to have a successful conference.

The following documents are suggestions and a guide to help you gather data, reflect on your progress, and organize your information and your thoughts to discuss your work during your conference.

Please ask your teacher or Advisor to clarify any information that you do not understand or ask your Advisor for help with drafting your letter to your parents and putting your portfolio together.

Attached you will find several documents:1. Reflection Prompts: This document is meant to give you some things to think

about when looking at your work and deciding what to choose and why.2. A template for a letter to write to your parents looking at the areas in the outline

of the letter.3. A Conference Feedback Form for your parent to complete, at the close of your

conference.4. Tips on how to prepare and start a conversation with your parents.

TIPS

1. SELECT only a few pieces of work from each class. Limit your selections to two successful work samples and two work samples that show a need to improve. The successful work samples are a good topic of conversation to analyze and measure why you did well. The work samples that show a need to improve are good for setting goals for future learning and performance.

2. DRAFT a letter that outlines the purpose of the conference, discusses the work samples you selected and your goals for each class.

3. USE the suggested Reflective Prompts to guide your reflection process on your work.

4. DURING the conference, prepare your parents by asking them to please hold their questions or comments until the end of your presentation.

5. OFFER your parents an index card or a sheet of paper to write their questions while you present.
