Programme AimsTo provide scientific knowledge relating to aspects of equine science that
include the management of the following:
1. Health & Welfare
2. Reproduction
3. Behaviour
4. Nutrition
5. Exercise
• To demonstrate how a scientific approach can be applied at a
practical level with resultant benefits in equine performance and
welfare.

Programme objectives:Students participating in this “research-rich” programme will have:
1. Increased understanding and awareness of the application of scientific principles to
the study of equine science.
2. Ability to apply this knowledge in research and in a more practical context.
3. Ability to utilise effective and modern methods for describing and analysing scientific
data.
4. Enhanced ability to communicate scientific results and information in research and
other forms of debate.
5. Sufficient understanding of equine science to undertake independent research or a
PhD research programme in this field.
6. Knowledge for undertaking philosophical debate relating to the use of horses in
research and sport.

Programme Structure• Equine Science Programme has two elements:
- Taught Courses (7, you need to complete 6)
- Each taught course worth 20 SCQF Credits
- Dissertation Year
(equivalent to 3 taught courses worth 60 credits)
• Delivered part-time
- Certificate = 60 credits (1 to 2 years)
- Diploma = 120 credits (2 to 4 years)
- Masters = 180 credits (3 to 6 years)
• Delivered from September to June each year
• Each year consists of 3 teaching blocks of 10 weeks

• Scan and upload any other horse related certificates e.g. British Horse Society Exams, Horse Husbandry certificates, Equine Physio or Farriery exams completed.

• English Language accept: IELTS, TOEFL, CAE, CPE, Trinity ISE:
The TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition online test has been approved
for entry to the University of Edinburgh. This test is available in many
countries around the world, and can be taken online from your home.
Entry requirements based on the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test
