The event featured dinner and a show all of whichis student-organized and run. Ohana HawaiianCaf6, an Oregon-based restaurant with locations inboth Portland and Milwaukie, catereddinner. Authentic Hawaiian foods like kalua pigwith cabbage, poi (a pudding-like food made frommashed taro), kulolo (a dessert made from mashedtaro and grated coconut meat or coconut milk) andcoconut haupia (a coconut gelatin of sorts) were onthe menu, in addition to teriyaki chicken, rice,macaroni salad and pineapple. To a recordaudience of more than 1,600 people, a roughly 2-hour show was put on by dancers, both membersand non-members of the Hawaiian Club, withHawaiiarL Samoaru Tahitian and Maori dances,student skits, and a student fire-throwingperformance. Spectators were left dazzled by theamount of detail and grace executed in all of theperformances.

It's amazing how much love and hard workgoes into pulling off a spectacular lu'au but theHawaiian Club never seems todisappoint. After four months of preparation,all of the days of rehearsing, costume makingdecorating and promoting culminated in ashowcase on May 3 of the Hawaiian andPolynesian cultures like no other. JuniorsIhilani Kamaka and Jonah Flores were thisyear's co-chairs of the event of which thetheme was "Keiki'O Ka'Aina" whichtranslates to "Children of the Land." Lt total,more than 100 students were involved in themaking of Linfield's annual lu'au event andeach did their part as committee chairs,dancers, kumus (teachers) or volunteersduring preparations or on the big day itself.

{}rt*and decorated gingerbread houses to get intothe Chrisfinas spirit and take a break fromstudying for finals.

Over the course of the spring term the mainfocus for students was "ht'au season" as they

prepared for months before all of their hardwork paid off on the big day of May 3.

Up next for the club is a final spring outing at

Golden Valley Brewery, followed by cosmic

bowling, and the election process for nextyear's board and officers.

men's football games it was off to the

Clackamas Town Center for a day of good

food and shopping with even greater people.

The first semester also saw the club geftingcustom shirts courtesy of club presidentMariah Torres with the shirts being designed

by Nicole Kaho'opi'i. As Christmas break
