LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - MSNBC tv host Melissa Harris-Perry apologized on Tuesday for a currentsegment on her show that joked about former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney'sadopted African-American grandson.
Harris-Perry mentioned that the segment on Sunday's "Melissa Harris-Perry" show was meant tocelebrate diversity and not disparage it.
"What http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/blogs/directory.html/ ever the como eliminar la celulitisintent, the segment proceeded in an unexpected way that was offensive," Harris-Perry said in astatement. "Without having reservation or qualification, I apologize to the Romney family and to allhouseholds built on loving transracial adoptions."
The segment asked a como eliminar la celulitis panel to humorously caption a photo from the pastyear. A single of the pictures was of Romney holding his adopted African-American grandsonalongside his wife, Ann, and other grandchildren.
Actress Pia Glenn sang "1 of these items is not like the others," and comedian Dean Obeidallah jokedthat the photo "truly sums up the diversity of the Republican celebration."
Harris-Perry, who is African-American and a political science professor at Tulane University, is thethird MSNBC host to apologize for insensitive http://www.cnn.com/video/ comments in the previoustwo months.
Last month, actor Alec Baldwin's late-evening speak show was canceled shortly right after heapologized for calling a celebrity photographer a homophobic slur.
Host Martin Bashir resigned earlier this month after becoming suspended by MSNBC for producingderogatory comments about former U.S. vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
