Mt. Beulah Is To Honor Joel Tyson This Sunday
Mt. Beulah Ba~hurch will honor the Rev. Joel Tyson, who is completing his 50th year in the ministry, at "Homecoming and Joel Tyson Day" at the church this Sunday, May 5.
Rev. Tyson is completing his golden anniversary year in the ministry, and his home church is taking the opportunity to ex press its love and appreciation for his 50 years in the Lord's work. Rev. Tyson will teach the Sunday School lesson to the en tire adult department at 10 a.m. At the 11:00 worship service, a former pastor of Mt. Beulah, the Rev. J. Harvey Clark willpreach the homecoming message.
At the close of the worship service, highlights of Rev. Ty son's life and ministery will be recalled, and he and Mrs. Tyson will receive gifts from the church. Dinner on the ground will be enjoyed by all those at tending.
Mt. Beulah will hold revival services beginning on Monday evening, May 6, at 7:30, and running through Sunday, May 12. The Rev. Harold Parker of Dan ville, va., will be the evangelist.
Special sacred music will be rendered by the Chancel and Junior choirs of the church and by other singing groups. Nursery care for small children will be available, so family attendance is being emphasized.
The Rev. Joel Tyson was born in Anson County on August 19, 1889, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Tyson. He became a Christian at the age of 15, and in the ensuing years held many places of leadership in his church. He was ordained into the ministry in December, 1921, and in the 36 years following pas tored 23 churches.
Some of the outstanding ach ievements of his active ministry are as follows: Led in organizing
four churches; spearheaded seven building programs; served as moderator and clerk of the Cabarrus Baptist Association; served as trustee of Wingate Col lege for six years; had 31 young men in his churches to exper ience God's call to the ministry.
Rev. Tyson retired from the pastorate in 1957, but continues to stay busy serving as interim pastor and revival preacher. He is currently serving the Phaniels Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Since retiring he has served 24 churches for periods ranging from 3 to 11 months; preached in 29 revivals; officiated in 11 baptismal services; spent five weeks in the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem; and only missed three sundays in church since 1957. married August6, 1916. Theynow reside at 2401 Florida Avenue in Kannapolis. They are the parents of three children who are Mrs. Theron Honeycutt of Kannapolis; Mrs. James Masseynowresiding in Arizona; and Joel Jr., current ly working as a Boy Scout execu tive in Macon, Ga. Joel and Helen are the pround grandparents of five grandchildren.
The Rev. J. Harvey Clark is currently the pastor of the Boon ville Baptist Church in Boon ville. He served as pastor of Mt. Beulah from January 1, 1960, to October 1, 1962. During his pastorate a beautiful educational building was built and many other achievements were realized.
The Rev. Harold Parker is a graduate of Yanceyville High School, and he attended Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem and Fruitland Baptist Bible In stitute at Hendersonville. He ser ved in the Nav.yduringWorld Wa~ II with a special selected group known as the Armed Guard Unit. Since entering the ministry, he has pastored five churches, the latest being the Calvary Baptist Church in Toccoa, Georgia, and the Landis Baptist Church in Lan dis, N. C. He and Mrs. Parker have 3 children, a son and two daughters. Their son is a fresh man at Wingate College.

Revival Begins At Gold Hill
Revival services will begin Monday evening at 7:30 at Gold Hill Ba~t Church and will continue rough the following week. The Rev. Joel Tyson, interim pastor of Brook Dale Baptist Church, Kannapolis, will be visiting evangelist. Mr. Tyson was a long time
pastor in the Cabarrus Associ ation prior to retirement and has served churches in Rowan and Stanly counties as supply pastor. He continues to be active in evangelist work. Special singing is being
planned for each evening ser vice.
