In our Winter, 2014 Newsletter I announced theconstruction of both a new 16-bed short termrehabilitation and recovery neighborhood and

assisted living memory care community. This is inline with our mission to expand our services in orderto meet the needs of our growing senior population.

I am excited to report that we just opened our newRehab Suites in July with much anticipation andfanfare! Our new neighborhood boasts of privaterooms with walk-in showers, Smart TV’s, wifi access, refrigerators, individual climate control, privatemain entrance, state–of-the-art therapy gym, spa, beauty salon, spacious and well-appointed commonareas with abundant natural light, enhanced dining, beautifully landscaped courtyard with rehabilitationfeatures, and a variety of activities including, ofcourse, afternoon happy hours.

Construction of our new memorycare neighborhood continues inearnest with an anticipatedopening date of January, 2015. Itwill feature many amenities andservices designed to meet theneeds of those individuals withmemory concerns who can stillmaintain a high quality of livingwithin the safe, secureenvironment of an assisted living community.

All of this comes, coincidently, as we celebrate our50th anniversary. As we continue to grow andchange, I want to thank all of our residents, families, volunteers and staff for your patience during thistime of transition. Our community is what it is todaybecause of YOU, for whom we are so grateful!

What is Assisted Living? To learn more about Assisted Living and to help you make an informed decision, we have gathered general information from theAssisted Living Federation of America, AFLA. The following excerpts are a guide produced by the AFLA. For more informationgo to www.afla.org, or call Mountain Vista at 303-421-4160.

Assisted living is an excellent option for seniorsseeking an independent and vibrant lifestyle, while also receiving the help they want and

need with daily activities. Assisted living is the seniorliving option that combines housing, support services, and health care, as needed. Seniors who choose assistedliving enjoy an independent lifestyle with assistancecustomized to meet their needs, benefits that enrichtheir lives, and an environment that promotes well-being and family connectedness. Staff is available tomeet both scheduled and unscheduled needs.Communities typically offer dining, as well as socialand wellness activities designed to support a well-rounded lifestyle. Assisted living is a housing andhealth-care option that combines independence andpersonal care in a residential setting.

A senior living community, like Mountain Vista, provides an easy transition from independent living to assisted living for seniors who may need additional help. They can enjoy an improved quality of life withindependence and care combined.

The ResidentsMore than one million Americans currently live inassisted living communities. Assisted living isappropriate for someone who wants and needs somelevel of assistance with everyday activities, such as mealpreparation, medication management, transportationand bathing, for example. Some residents may haveAlzheimer’s or other cognitive impairments, or theymay need assistance with mobility, incontinence, orother challenges.

The CommunitiesAssisted livingcommunities offer thelatest amenities, privacy, comfort, and beautifullydecorated home inspired environments for seniors. There is no single blueprint for assisted living becauseconsumers’ preferences and needs vary widely. Mostcommunities have suites varying in size from a singleroom to a full apartment. They may be operated bynonprofit or for-profit organizations.

Typical CostsCosts vary with the community, apartment size, andtypes of services needed by residents; however, assistedliving often is less expensive than home health servicesor nursing home care in the same geographic area. Thebasic rate may cover all amenities and personal servicesor there may be additional charges for special services.

Every community is unique. As you begin your searchfor an assisted living community, assess your currentneeds and be prepared to ask each provider how itmight accommodate any changes in your needs overtime.

Mountain Vista currently has 47 assisted living apartments on campus and will add to thatnumber in 2015 when the brand new assisted living memory care building opens.
