MTS Professional Committees are technical interest

groups that bring together members with common

interests and enhance a sense of community through

events and activities, such as specialized conferences,

workshops, technical sessions and special issues of

the MTS Journal.

Topic: ROV Committee

• The committee’s mission is to promote

the exchange of technical information

among all ROV stakeholders, and to

increase student interest and

involvement in ROV technology.

• Co-sponsor the annual Underwater

Intervention Conference which includes

an exhibition and technical program.

• Sponsors the MATE International ROV

Competition and award scholarships

annually to students interested in

ROV’s

Topic: Ocean Observing Systems (OOS) • OOS provide critical and persistent data on

climate change, biogeochemical cycles,

ecosystem assessment and environmental

hazards

• Emerging Technologies include:

− Gliders

− HF Radar networks

− High-speed fiber optic networks

− Acoustic tagging and tracking

• Committee involvement through:

− Conference Tracks

− MTS Journal special issues

− Annual meetings and published updates

− TechSurge and special focus Workshops

Mission: Provide a forum for discussion, interchange and publication of

information and technologies in identification, monitoring, and

remediation of ocean pollution.

Activities: 2012 – Subsea & Arctic Leak Detection Symposium

2013 – Inaugural MTS Subsea Leak Detection

Symposium

2014 – MTS Journal on Subsea Leak Detection

Expertise: The committee is composed of technologists, end users

and government stakeholders of ocean pollution solutions across the

marine industry. 2012 and 2013 are primarily focused on participating

and engaging R&D around subsea leak detection solutions –

specifically subsea assets such as oil & gas facilities.

Topic: Ocean Pollution Committee

Topic: Deepwater Field Development Tech.

• Definition of Topic: To expand the MTS base more into the

oilfield equipment end of the subsea business

• Direct involvement with MTS: Sponsoring Sessions at

Underwater Intervention in New Orleans

• Primary goal is to organize “Lunch & Learns” where

members, students and educators can be exposed to

recent industry innovations and practices.

Topic: Rope & Tension Member

• Definition of Topic: to discuss and publish information relative to load

carrying tension members such as synthetic and natural fiber ropes, wire

ropes, chains, protrusions, tension legs, and associated connectors and

terminations, including design analysis, performance and failure

investigations, field experiences, and new materials, forms, and

techniques

• Emerging Technologies: New fibers, new terminations, new constructions

• Rope Technology Workshops (every ~18-months)
