Moody styling is in faded tones of ash blue, greys and greens for our Gritty Realism trend. It highlights the realistic world- unedited and real, but searches for the hidden beauty in these places. Sportswear detailing brings a street element, embossed with linear textures and logos. The silhouette is functional with relaxed styling; unfinished, thread bearing and rolled hems. Mesh, semi sheer and super- lightweight fabrics make this look wearable and utilitairian. Fabrics with a slight sheen and all over digital prints rejuvenate sportswear trends from last season. Inspiration is captured from familiar environments, drawing from what we know, but often overlook. Jackets are relaxed and functional, with zips or drawstring fastenings. Cropped lengths and sportsjacket cuffed sleeves are consistant details. Sportswear tops are cropped in length, with elasticated hems. The vest shape is a key look that is combined with batwing or assymetrical sleeves. Trousers are influenced by tracksuits, with elasticated and drawstring waitsbands and gathered hems. Cropped and mid length shorts are key along with the traditional sports shorts, made more sophisticated with luxurious fabrics. Practical playsuits with low backs are a key item for this trend, either in a t shirt style, or sporty vest style.

Gritty Realism highlights the awareness of the ever increasing gap between the social classes in Britian. The lower classes feel victimised so are fighting back, while the upper class fear the youths in the inner cities. With both sides feeling misunderstood, our trend aims to bring the two worlds together, by looking to raw basic materials and elements that are the foundations we all share. References are drawn from the Occupy movement and the aftermath of the London Riots in August 2011 but more recently the uprising of the Egyptian people. As the economy continues to be in recession, gloomy imagery remains in the media. Our trend aims to find the beauty in these unexpected places. Gritty rap videos by K Kole, Joel Compass and Earl Sweatshirt portray what life is really like growing up in poor inner city areas. TV shows such as Youngers allow viewers to either understand or relate to britians youth culture.

Nostalgic of worn down and derelect places, the ashy elements reminice of what were once vibrant colours. The reminant of exhausted resources. The key colours are in cool tones of greys blues and greens, offering a refreshing pallette for the new season. Greens are taken from fungi- a natural degrading tool in the transision from man made back to nature. Greys are taken from vast concrete buildings in inner city areas and abandoned shops adorned in street art.
Sportswear colours mix these faded shades with brighter hues taken from the hidden colours found in white noise, an example of beauty found in an overlooked place. Coral and faded florecent yellow brighten up the pallette.
ColourKey takeaways:
* cool tones of ash grey and blues
* highlight colours in orange and fluro yellow
* elasticated waistbands and exaggerated hi low t shirt dresses with wide sleeves.

Synthetic fabrics such as polyester, silk blends and mesh dominate this trend with high shine finishes. Wet look faux leather and metallic finishes to wool give the trend a modern update. Necklines and sleeves are unhemmed causing the fabric to roll or fray. Mesh appliqued cut outs with embroidered outlines add details to sweater sleeves. Elasticated waistbands are key detail with rutched hems of trousers and drawsting fastenings.

Sportswear for Gritty realism is inspired by the trend towards fitness and looking after yourself. This micro trend is sportswear with streetwear elements such as branding and slogans and more appealing colours. Textures are functional and retro in silky polyester, satins and breathable cottons. T shirts are simple in shape, with either batwing or rolled unhemmed sleeves. All over prints add to the appeal to these garments. Elasticated waists are key, as seen in straight leg trousers and sports shorts.

Nostalgic for childhood, inspiration is drawn from the nineties through print and silhouette. Playful elements are added taking colour and shape from childrens toys such as lego and gameboys. Prints, whether monochrome or block colours are juxtaposed together, paving the way for clash stylng in a trend where almost anything goes.
Tops are kept fun and daring with the cropped length. This season features looser fitting styles to the ones previously seen, and are updated with cut outs. Stirrupped leggings are key garments, some with cut outs down one or both the legs.
Jackets are oversized and mid length. Wide collarless jackets are key alongside bombers with cut outs. Shirt styles with detatchable hoods will also be key.
Denim as a microtrend continues the cropped and cut out trend, with cropped tops and jeans. Jackets are juxtaposed with this, being oversized and slouchy. Key fashion peices are centred on the dungaree shape, with bib and brace shorts and skirts, overalls and bib tops.

Nineties Clash is influenced by the ongoing trend for nostalgia of the nineties. Retro childrens games and television shows are great influencers of prints and colours. Nostalgia of childhood is the driving force, with twenty five films with themes of childhood being released by 2015. Clashing colours and prints are inspired by nineties dancehall divas and carnival wear. Artists such as M.I.A , Nicki Minaj and Rihanna are key style inspirations. With Rihannas new range for River Island, the trend will continue to grow by s/s 14 accentuated with more daring prints.

Combining typography with all over abstract prints, patterns are monochrome with flashes of brights or florecent hues. Prints are bold and unforgiving, made to clash with other garments. Bold colours in slightly muted hues give the illusion of being faded and retro for the denim clours. Denim is inky and saturated in deep indigos. One by one canvas, herringbone and pinpoint weaves demonstrate this seasons new focus on textural denims. Traditional indigo heavyweight denims feature on crop vests and shorts, contrasted wih heavily washed finishes in mid to lightweight open weaves. These are updated with acid washes or embossed patterns and logos continuing the retro nineties theme. Denim t shirts are a key garment, with wide contrast waistbands and necklines.

Minimal and clean cut shapes are the foundtions of this trend which is given depth through illustrative floral prints. Botany prints are taken as inspiration from plant encyclopedias making this seasons floral trend delicate and intricate. Inspiration is also drawn from inner city areas of green space, roof gardens and potted plants. The juxtaposition of nature and vast man made artchitecture is mirrored through sharp tapered shapes and minimalistic silhouettes. A bright watercolour pallette is splashed against a crisp white or black cloth. Fabrics and dyes are made with sustainable resources, appealing to the eco friendly generation. Printed chiffon, silk and cotton are the focus for fabrics, with panels of hand block printed canvas.

Inspired by Generation Y’s desire for clean, organic living, but combined with their want to live in busy inner cities. Roof gardens, allotments and green spaces in urban environments juxtaposed with modern sky scrapers and grand architecture. As the horsemeat revelations continue, people will turn to organic produce in all areas including food, clothing and everyday living. Drawing on influences close to home we look at botany prints and victorian english gardens. Many campaigns and exhibitions will emerge such as ‘Save the Bees’ and ‘Extinction: Not the end of the world?’ at the Natural History Museum.

Inspired by the very real threat of an outbreak of disease, a new perspective on the world of drugs and medicine is portrayed through our trend Microscopic Utopia. Evoking eye-catching powerful silhouettes with an ethereal undertone, it paints a more intriguing image of the daunting prospect. Developments of medicines and super bugs continue to grow at a rapid rate. As we remain balanced on the line between medical miracles and disease outbreaks, Microscopic Utopia marvels at the hidden world of cells and bacteria. The trend looks at the hidden beauty of the inside of our bodies and other living organisms such as vegetables, leaves and flowers. Repeated and mirrored prints cover flowing garments in light fabrics .

More recently we have seen Measles in Swansea and superbugs in hospitals causing people to be fearful. Howere there have also been huge breakthroughs in medical development too which has influenced people to look at medicine in a more positive in-spiring way. Microscopic Utopia looks at the world of medicine and science in a new light show-ing its physical beauty through prints and colour.
