General Information

The MUHC will perform the tests listed in this manual as per the terms listed in our service contracts for laboratory testing. This test and collection list will be regularly updated; therefore we strongly recommended not printing this document. It is published for informational purposes only and must be verified with the current document on the MUHC internet site. Transport of non-stabilized specimens In general, non-stabilized specimens should be transported to the laboratory within the shortest delay possible. The actual maximal time limit varies according to the test requested. Unless indicated to the contrary, blood samples for biochemistry testing can be stored and transported at room temperature (22 to 25 ˚C) for up to 2 to 4 hours after procurement. Attention: Certain tests are not stable and must be rapidly transported (less than 2 hours). Other tests are stable for periods greater than 2 hours, but in general non-stabilized blood should be received within 4 hours of procurement. Unless indicated to the contrary, specimens for bacterial culture can be stored in the refrigerator for a maximum of 24 hours. Attention: Certain specimens must not be refrigerated Specimens received beyond the recommended times or conditions, may be rejected in order to prevent erroneous results.
