    Preserving Contra Costas Natural Heritage

    Heres what were accomplished:

    Lands Preserved:

    325-acre Mt. Wanda at the John Muir NationalHistoric Site in Martinez was purchased in part

    with funds raised by the Land Trust. This

    beautiful mountain is now held in perpetuity

    by the National Park Service.

    242-acre Sky Ranch in the Franklin Ridgeprovides important wildlife habitat, recreationalopportunities and a crucial segment of the

    Bay Area Ridge Trail.

    80-acre Gustin property in the Franklin Ridgehas amazing views of the Carquinez Strait and

    Mt. Diablo.

    158-acre Dutra Ranch links Sky Ranch with theGustin property to form 630 acres of contiguous

    open space and wildlife corridors.

    702-acre Fernandez Ranch in the FranklinRidge holds significant Alameda Whipsnakeand California red-legged frog habitat, as well

    as a section of the Bay Area Ridge Trail.

    124-acre Pacheco Marsh within the CarquinezStrait Heritage Area Corridor was purchased in

    partnership with the East Bay Regional Park

    District and Contra Costa County Flood Control

    District. It hosts rich marine habitat.

    7-acre Bodfish property on Miner Road inOrinda is managed in partnership with theOrinda Park and Recreation Foundation.

    Conservation Easements:

    150 acres of oak woodland and grasslandhabitat within the Stonehurst subdivision in

    Martinez next to Sky Ranch.

    30 acres of protected habitat for theendangered Contra Costa goldfields and a

    section of Rodeo Creek in Hercules.

    Why we need your help:

    Open space is rapidly diminishing in ContraCosta County. We are actively pursuing new

    land acquisitions and need your support to act on

    and secure new properties.

    Fernandez Ranch Restoration. Extensive creekrestoration and amenities for public access will

    result in the largest open space preserve in

    West Contra Costa County.

    LaMorinda. The Land Trust is now working toacquire both fee title and conservation easements

    on a number of new parcels.

    Environmental Education & Stewardship.We partner with The Environmental Studies

    Academy (Martinez Unified School District),

    the Contra Costa County Office of EducationsRegional Occupational Program (ROP), the East

    Bay Conservation Corps and many others to

    facilitate environmental education andstewardship programs for students on

    Muir Heritage Land Trust properties.

    Public Education. Our active hike andevent series invites the public to join us

    in appreciating our open spaces through

    recreational and educational activities.
