Mujib BiosphereReserveArchaeologists have identified Wadi Mujib as a human habitation site since the Copper Age (4500-3200 BCE). During biblical times, the Mujib River served as a major geographical and political boundary between the kingdoms of Moab and Ammon. Once a busy commercial area for salt and oil, villagers now depend on farming for their livelihoods.

Established in 1985, the Mujib Biosphere Reserve covers an area of 212km2 bordering the Dead Sea at lower than 416 meters below sea level, which makes it the lowest reserve on Earth.

It serves as an internationally-recognized staging ground for migratory birds such as White Storks and Levant Sparrows. At least nine species of birds of prey are known to breed in the reserve, including the Little Owl and Long-legged Buzzard.

The Mujib Biosphere Reserve is also the national home of the Nubian Ibex, a large mountain goat that was a symbol of the moon god during the reign of the Queen of Sheba. Once on the brink of extinction in the Kingdom, the Ibex captive breeding program was initiated by The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in 1989 and over 90 Ibex live in the reserve today.

Mujib Chalets are only a short distance from the Mujib Adventure Center and consist of fifteen chalets with some of the best Dead Sea views along the coast. Each chalet has an uninterrupted sea view, shaded sun terrace, hammock, air conditioning, private shower and toilets.

The Chalets area serve indoor restaurant that offers a range of traditional Arabic cuisine The restaurant is directly located on the shores of the Dead Sea, so you can enjoy your meal with breathtaking views of the Dead Sea.

The Chalets are open all year round.

The routes are 10 m to 15 m high set up for top rope climbing (with belaying) or lead climb. Top rope climbing is a style in climbing in which a rope, used for the climber's safety, runs from a bilayer at the foot of a route through one or more carabiners connected to an anchor system at the top of the route and back down to the climber, attaching to the climber by means of a harness.

Mount Nebo (50 km north) Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 817 metres above sea level, the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. Also a small Byzantine Church was built there by early Christians. From Mount Nebo, you can see the Dead Sea, Jericho, and the distant hills of Jerusalem.

Rock Climbing

We have installed a zipline of two parallel cables, allowing two people to live the experience together. This concept offers an exclusive novelty in Jordan. The zipline is 100m long, with a slope of about 9m, extending in parallel with the Al Mujib Bridge, from its starting point at the Visitor Center towards its end point on the other side of the valley. This adventure requires a great deal of braveness to enjoy the experience of flying in the midst of the surrounding nature.

Zipline

The Baptism Site(50 km northwest) commemorates the baptism of Jesus by his cousin, John the Baptist. Archaeological evidence from the 1st century AD show that this site was inhabited and used during the time of Jesus and John the Baptist.

Guided only Grade: Moderate Distance: 5 kmTime: 3 hours Starting Time: 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.Group size: 5-20 person

Trail Disruption:The trail starts from the visitor center and moves from the Southwest to the Northeast You will swim from pool to another until you make it to the ending point where you will find the ancient wheat mill. There will be transportation at that point awaiting the visitors.

Head right from Al-Walah and proceed for 20 km reaching Al-Hidan Adventures Center. There are road signs from Madaba until Hidan Adventure Center.

Al Hidan Trail

Wadi Al Hidan is a unique and ecologically important valley, part of the Mujib Biosphere Reserve. The valley’s diversity of rock formation, contrasted colors of black basalt, limestone, sandstone, and clay, offer an exceptional hiking experience.

Hidan Adventure CenterAlong the upper side of the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, you can find the Hidan Adventure Center where you can start your canyoning trip through the Hidan Water Trail.

The valley is a permanent fresh water valley, characterized by springs, waterfalls, water pools, and biodiversity.

Trails are tough, exciting, and offer a chance to swim and bathe in the cool, clear waters of the rivers. Hikers should expect to climb rocks against the water flow and jump into natural pools.

Wadi Hidan

Is the starting point of all the adventures and activities (except al hidan trail) to explore wadi al mujib, and it is a special spot for the adventure lover in jordan and the world. The center also has cafeteria, shop and waiting area.
