Assistant Director’s Report

Volume 8, Issue 2

The weather has

finally warmed up

and the club is ready

to ride! This is one of

my favorite times of

year. The redbuds are

out, the dogwoods

are starting to bloom,

and farmers’ are

getting their fields

ready to plant.

It is just cool enough

out to wear a leather

jacket and you feel a

rush of freedom as

you cruise the back

roads after being

cooped up all winter.

Please be aware of

some safety tips as

you enjoy this spring.

Watch for gravel that

washes out of

driveways during

spring rains. Keep

your eyes on the car

drivers as they are get

reacquainted to bikes

on the road. Make

sure you have your

rain suit handy. Also,

as with any time of

year, expect the

unexpected.

We have had nine

activities including

rides and chapter

meetings already this

year, with much

more to come. It was

great to see nineteen

bikes and twenty-one

riders on our first

ride. I hope to see

you on many more!

date will be the following Saturday. Should it be rainy the next Saturday, we will do everything possible to get it worked back in to the

schedule.

Also, a couple of years ago, we decided that if the scheduled ride has to be cancelled, we will notify the chapter, via email, no later than two hours before the depart time. More times than not, we will make the call on Friday evening. If so far is any indication of how the year will be, we won’t have to worry about all this, but I just wanted to give

everyone a reminder.

Also, don’t forget that in some upcoming rides, we have two being led by new road captains, so I know everyone will want to check out some new roads. In June we will be scheduling rides for the rest of the year,

Hello Muletown. The 2014 riding season has gotten off to a great start with the first three rides in the books. Also, we are mid way through a stretch of rides to new destinations. Once again, the road captains are back to business in coming up with new ideas. So far, we have managed to get good riding weather. Let’s hope the

trend continues.

In the event we have questionable weather in our ride forecast, I just thought I would refresh everyone on ride cancellation/reschedule. Of course, everyone knows we follow the 50/50 rule. If there is a temperature of below 50, or a 50% or greater chance of rain, the ride will be cancelled. If it is less than 50% during the hours of the ride, but greater later in the day, we will ride. The rain

so if you have ideas we haven’t thought of, get in touch with me or any of the road captains, and we will

put it together.

Here’s to a great rest of the riding season! See you on

the road, ~Jerry

“...So if you are an old or new

member...Screw it lets Ride!!!

Hey Muletown,

I think I have put some great (and diverse) activities in place for the summer months – so

here we go!

Smyrna Air Show: June 14th (Schedule TBA) – Blue Angels scheduled to perform! Tickets are

$25 for adults / $12 for children 4-12. We can discuss plans for riding/driving at the meeting.

Sounds Baseball Group Outing: After looking at the schedule and having talked to you all

about 4th of July fireworks, I chose July 3rd as the primary date. This is a Thursday night, but

provides a great game against the Memphis Redbirds and a fireworks show after the game

AND tickets are only $10 each (admission and group seating – no food or drinks – we can

add a hotdog and soda voucher for an additional $7.50). Again, we will discuss this at the

next few meetings and you can contact me directly if you can’t make the meetings.

I still plan to take a group of adventurers to the Buffalo River to canoe or

kayak (your choice). Saturday July 19th, 2014 is the primary planning

date. Price per canoe is $35 (covers two adults) for the 10 mile trip from

Crazy Horse to Slink Shoals (blue rock). Plan to incorporate this into a

“pick up” ride as well.

As usual I am always looking for new ideas for chapter activities – If you have some, send me

an e-mail. Hope to see you all this year!

Hey Muletown! The riding season

is now in full swing. How does

your first aid kit look? I know a lot

of riders that carry the bare

essentials. With much thanks to

Baggers Magazine, here is an

easy way to put together a solid

first aid kit for your saddlebag. As

you can see they shop at

Walgreens! ~Ride Safe, Doc

DIY, Assignments from the Principal. Jon “Doc” Ullrich

Page 4 Volume 8, Issue 2

Begin by purchasing a pre-assembled first aid as a cost saving measure (70 items). Use the box

Buy some flexible fabric finger band aids. Many injuries are sustained to the hands & digits by

A bottle of antiseptic is a must-use item anytime the skin is broken and blood is gushing.

In case bandages are not enough so we stock 2

finger splints for any sort of sprain or break.

Pick up safety pins to hold together torn

clothing or a sling. A set of scissors to cut

tape or fabric and comb which is good for

getting small shards of metal/wood.

Cloth and tender tape is a must for any first aid

kit.

Purchase a set of tweezers and a magnifying

glass to better see and extract splinters.

Prioritize and keep what makes sense and

get some lubricating eye drops for your

peepers!

You may have to play a game of Tetris to get

it all in there but you can do it! Your fellow

riders will appreciate it if a need should arise

and if you ride alone you should never ride

without one!

Tex has the month

off this time

around, but as the

saying goes, a

picture is worth a thousand

words. Enjoy!!

ROAD TRIPS: YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW

Welcome to the new, New Year, new H.O.G.® logos and graphics and a new State H.O.G.® Rally Season. The 2014 State H.O.G. Rally schedule is out on hog.com/events. You may have seen the list in H.O.G.® Magazine or in the last issue of this electronic rag. I can tell you all that the 2014 State H.O.G. ® Rally committee teams are well into the planning of great H.O.G.® events for you. Their planning include fantastic rides, entertainment and of course time for us all to kick tires and tell road stories.

Each of the 2013 State H.O.G. Rallies in the west offered up roads you could gain those road stories on.

Seems like it was just yesterday, but do you remember all your rally riding in the year 2013? Some incredible rides, meeting awesome H.O.G.® members and an outstanding way to spend time on your Harley-Davidson® Motorcycle.

In New Mexico one would quickly learn why the state is known as “Land of Enchantment.” In Colorado, South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois you would’ve rode all day seeing the sites. Then enjoyed some fun times partying with your fellow H.O.G. members (not that this didn’t happen at all of the western rallies).

Ever see a 60 foot Jolly Green Giant? You would have if you went to the Minnesota rally. Ever watch someone shave half their head of hair and beard off? Yeah…it happened in Kansas in front of dueling pianos after dodging a few thunder storms during the day. Nebraska and Oregon had some great riding along the Old Oregon Trail, ever wondered what the trail looks like?

Did you even know there was a town in the US called Thermopolis? If you went to the Wyoming rally you would have seen some great riding through Wind River Canyon and experienced the world’s largest hot springs. Fairbanks was the place to be for the Alaska State H.O.G. Rally in mid-June of 2013 with beautiful sunny skies. There’s 24 hours of daylight up there that time of year. More riding in the Wild West was enjoyed by H.O.G. members at the AZ State H.O.G. Rally held in Yuma. Nevada was a smok’n time, rides and drag racing during the day and the Vegas night life to end the day.

Rally themes in 2013 were unique and were celebrations for us all. The Missouri rally had it all: lightning, rain and fantastic riding around the Ozarks while celebrating 30 years of H.O.G. Wisconsin’s theme rallied us together like it was the roaring 20’s. I thought I saw AL Capone, but it was a local H-D® dealer in costume.

Out on the Pacific Coast you may have visited Washington and California, who held their annual rallies with miles to ride in their schedules to the mountains and along the ocean shores. Speaking of shoreline, Hawaii has a few miles of awesome shoreline. The 2013 State H.O.G. Rally had us on the Island of Maui and you can ride 200 miles a day on different roads there.

Start today! Don’t let the 2014 State H.O.G. Rally Season go past without being part of it. Get your Chapter together and plan your rides today, register for one or more of the many opportunities to gain new adventures and road stories at a State H.O.G. Rally. Visit members.hog.com for the complete schedule. Many of the rallies have a Chapter challenge contest, so don’t miss out.

What about tomorrow? Are you interested in submitting a proposal for the next H.O.G. Rally? Communications are going out to dealers and Chapters with information regarding rally proposals for 2015. Are you with me here? It is not a typo, 2015 will be here before you can say “U.S. State H.O.G. Rally” 25 million times. After you receive your invitation to the meeting, let us know if you are interested in making a bid for a State Rally.

Let’s ride, ~JT Hasley H.O.G. Regional Mgr.
