A New Era of Education
Multi-Language Capabilities Help
Manage K-12 Demographic Shifts
America’s classrooms are
more diverse than ever
before, and with this shift
comes an increase in the
number of students from
homes where English is not
the primary language
spoken. On the next few
pages, we’ll explore
America’s changing
demographics and how
innovative software is
making it a smooth
transition for both parents
and schools.

More Than Just English
According to the 2011 Language Use of the United States report by the U.S. Census Bureau, 60.6 million people in America age 5
and up speak a language other than English at home. That is a
pretty large slice of the pie!
The same census report states, of the 60.6
million people age 5 and up speaking a language other than English at home:
62% speak Spanish or Spanish Creole;
17.8% speak other Indo-European
languages, including French, German, and
Hindi;
15.6% speak Asian or Pacific Island
languages, including Chinese, Korean, and
Tagalog;
And 4.6% speak other languages, including
Arabic, Native American languages, and
African languages.
What Do These Shifting Demographics
Mean in Terms of Our Schools?
For one, they are contributing to a growing gap in
communication between teachers, principals, the
students and their families.
Despite all this, parents still need to
fill out a host of important
paperwork. This could include
everything from enrollment forms
to health assessments and field-
trip permission slips, as well as vital
emergency contact forms.
Parents who struggle with reading English often struggle to
fill out these important documents. Not only is it frustrating,
and forms are left incomplete, but it also adds up to a
significant waste of time and resources for both the parents
and the school.
However, there has to be a solution to this communications gap…
The solution is innovative,
cloud-based software like
frevvo that can provide all
the important forms schools
need in a multitude of
languages. Better yet,
frevvo can convert and
save the completed forms
in other languages, so both
the parent and the school
have PDFs in the language
of their choosing.
For example, a parent chooses to fill out the paperwork in
their native tongue of Spanish. Once the document is
completed and submitted to the school, they are able to
save the documents as both English and Spanish PDFs.
It’s now more important
than ever for schools to
communicate fluidly with
non-English speaking
parents to help our
students grow to be the
successful leaders of
tomorrow. Affordable,
fast, and easy solutions like
frevvo are the perfect step
to lead your school to a
brighter, more cost-
efficient future.
