Multi Sweep 500 Operating Instructions
Pre-operating Instructions
• Removeallpackingmaterial,carefullyinspectingtheunitforshippingdamage.Ifanydamageisfound,informthetransportcompanyandsignthedeliverynotedamaged.Ifnecessarynotifyyoursupplierofthisproduct.
• Checkmachinefortightnessofboltsandfittings.• Greaseallwheels,castorsandkingpins.• FittheappropriatequickreleasecouplingstothehydraulicfeedhosesontheMultiSweep.• Thesecouplingsmustbecompatiblewiththoseofthecarriervehicleandmustbehalf
inchbore,orlarger,sothattheoilflowisnotrestricted.
Operating Instructions
Forklift Powered Models:
• Place the forks in thehangersofMultiSweepmachine.Close fork lockcatchbehindbothforks.Pleaseensurematerialhandlerforksarenotwornandthattheyfitcorrectly.Asafetychaincanbefittedasanextrasafetydevicewhererequired.Pleaseensurethisischeckedbeforethesweeperisused.
• Locatehangers in the centre sectionof thehangerhousing.Thisprevents the forkliftweight“resting”backontheMultiSweepandcausingdamagetorearwheels.
• Attachthefeedandreturnhydraulichosestotheextrafunctionfittingonthematerialhandler.
• Operate extra function lever with forklift at idle speed. Ensure that main broom on the Multi Sweep is rotating in clockwise direction, i.e. brushing towards the debris container.
• Engage1stor2ndgearwithrpmatjustaboveidlespeed.Thisshouldgiveagroundspeedofbetween2to4milesperhour.(Itisimportantthathighenginerpmisnotusedasthiswillincreasebroomspeedbutnotsweepingefficiencyandonlyincreasesbroomwearandpossibledamage).
• SlowlylowertheMultiSweeptothegroundsothatitrestsonitswheelsandcommencesweeping in a forward direction. Ensure that fork hangers are kept atmid-section ofhangerhousing.
• Whenthedebriscontainerisfull,spillagewillbeseenatbothsidesofthemachine.• Release extra function lever to stop broom rotation keeping the Multi Sweep on the
ground. (This prevents the debris container opening accidentally).• Incertainmodelsa restrictorvalve isfittedon the feed line to thehydraulic ram that
releasesthedebriscontainer.Thispreventsanyhydraulicsurgethatmayoccurfromahighflowmaterialhandler.
• Liftthemachineoverdischargeareaandoperatetheextrafunctionleverinreverseofsweepingmodewhichtrips thedebriscontainer(Uselowrpmatall timesanddonotshakeinanattempttoimprovedischarge).
• Checkthecontaineriscleanofalldebris,mud,etc.• Putthemachineintosweepingmodeandlowertothegroundwhilstmovingforward.
Thisallowsthedebriscontainertolockupautomatically.Donotreversewhileskipistouchingtheground.
• Do not attempt to close the debris container while in a static position as you may cause excess wear or damage to the retaining pins.
Kerb Brush Operation;
• Ensurethatthekerbbrushisnotoperatingbeforehandling.• Hold safety ring and remove theR-clip from retainingpin andgently lower thekerb
brushtotheground.Placetheretainerpininsleeveonthesideofthekerbbrushbracket.• Checkthatthebrushisincontactwiththegroundpriortooperating
a) Byadjustingthetopbolt-stop,allowsbristlestojustrubontheground. (Excessivepressurereducesbrushefficiencyandreducesbrushlife).b) Byadjustingtheangletogivegoodkerbpenetration,andsidewayssweeping.
Water System-Gravity Spray Bar;
• Fillthewatertankwithcleanwater,accesspointforwaterlocatedontopoftank,andoperateballvalvesfittedbetweentankandspraybar.
Water System-Electric System;
• Connectleadtosuitablepowersourceonthematerialhandler;fillthetanksasperstandardsystem.Switchonvalveandpump.
• NB:DONOTRUNPUMPWITHOUTADEQUATEWATER.
Engine Powered Models;
Theoperatinginstructionsarethesameasformaterialhandlermodelswiththefollowingexceptions.Pleasecheckthatyouareputtingthecorrectfuelintotheengine.Alsocheckoillevelsintheengineandhydraulicreservoir.
• Once the Multi Sweep has been attached to the material handler and secured, thepowerpackenginecanbestarted.Donotstarttheengineunlessthehydraulicvalveisintheoffpositionasyouwillbeputtingexcessloadontheengineatthestart
• Allowtheenginetorunatlowrpminitiallyuntilitwarmsup.• Oncetheenginehasbeenallowedtowarmup,increasetherpmusingthethrottlelever
runengineatmaximumrpm.• Engagetheleveronthehydraulicballvalvefittedto thepowerpackhydrauliccircuit.
Thisdivertstheoilflowtothemainbroommotor.• Youcannowcommencesweepinginaforwarddirection.
Multi Sweep Service Guidelines:
Casters / Kingpins;
Wheelsaremountedtoeitheraswivelcasterorakingpinfork.Eachisfittedwithagreasepointforperiodicgreasing.Castersmustbereplacedwithnewcasterswhenworn.Ifexcessiveplaydevelopsonthekingpinsystemtheinternalbrasswearbushescanbereplaced.
Main Broom;
Whenthemainbroomwearsitwillneedtobeadjustedtocompensateforthiswear.Theadjustmentleversarelocatedonthetopofthemainbodyofthemachine(Oneoneachside).
The adjustment lever protrudes through the body and is held in place by clevis pins.Thesecanberemovedtoadjustthebroom.Thebroomisthenadjustedbymovingtheleverhandleatthetopofthemachinebody.Theclevispinsmustthenbereplaced.Theloweringshouldonlybedoneonlevelgroundtoensurethebrushissetlevel.Failuretodothiswillresultinanunevenwearingofthebrush.
Kerb Brush;
TheSideKerbBrushhas a threaded adjustment studfittedon themain support arm.Thisisadjustedaccordingtobrushwear.WhentheKerbBrushisfullywornthethreeattachmentboltsareremovedandthecompletebrushheadisreplacedwithanewbrushhead.
Broom Bearing;
A self-align bearing is fitted on the non-drive-side of themain broom.Thismust begreasedperiodicallywith lithiumbasedgrease. It is recommended that thisbearing ischeckedforwearwhenthebroomisremovedforre-bristlingandreplacedifnecessary.
Dust Apron;
Thedust apron is thePVCborder around the sweeperbase.Theapronhelpspreventdustescapingfromunderneathwhilstsweeping.Iftheapronisdamagedortornitislesseffectiveandshouldbereplaced.Theapronisfittedasonecompletepieceandtheloweredgeshouldjusttouchthegroundwhenthesweeperisoperating.
Engine Service;
SomeMulti Sweepmachines can be fittedwith either Petrol or aDiesel engine. Forserviceoftheseenginespleaserefertotheenginehandbook.Ontheenginemodelsthereisareturnhydraulicfilterfittedinthehydraulicreservoir.Itisrecommendedthatthisfilterischangedaftereverytwelvemonthsofoperation.Ondieselenginesyouwillalsoberequiredtochangetheengineoilfilter,consultyourenginemanualforthisprocedure.
Service Recommendations for Multi Sweep 500 Upkeep:
Three Month Service:
• Checkwheelsandcastersforwear.• Greaseallwheelsandcasters.• Checkdustapronforwear.• OnPetrolenginemodels;
-Cleansparkplug.-Cleanairfilter.
• OnDieselenginemodels;-Cleanairfilter.
Six Month Service:
• Checkwheels,castersanddustapronforwear.• Greaseallwheelsandcasters.• Greasemainbroombearing.• Checkmainbroomforwear,adjustifnecessary.• OnPetrolenginemodels;
-Replaceengineoil.-Cleansparkplug.-Clean/replaceairfilter.
• OnDieselenginemodels;-Replaceengineoil.-Clean/replaceairfilter.-Removeandcleanoilfilter(diesel)
Nine Month Service:
• Checkwheels,castersanddustskirtforwear.• Greaseallwheelsandcasters.• Greasemainbroombearing.• Checkmainbroomforwear,adjustifnecessary.• OnPetrolenginemodels;

Twelve Month Service:

Trouble Shooting Guide:
• Sweepernotcollectingdebriseffectively.-Mainbroomworn&needsadjustingdownwards.-Debriscontainermaybefullofcakeddebris&needscleaningout.
• Debriscontaineropensaccidentally.-KeeptheMultiSweeponthegroundwhenreleasingthe3rdfunctionlevertostopsweeping.ThenlifttheMultiSweep&taketothetippingarea.-Checktoseeiftripleverisdamagedorbentinanyway.
• Engineunderexcessiveloadwhilstsweeping.-Enginemayberevvedtoohighfortheeffectiveperformance.Itisrecommendedthattheenginerevsaresetatwellbelowmaximumtoavoidundueloading.
• Watersprinklersystemineffective.-With gravity system check pipe-work for silt blockage, or damage to thespraybar.-Withelectricsystemcheckpumpinletfilterandfilteronspraynozzle forblockage.
• Broomstopsturningonpower-packmodel.-Ifthebroomstopsturningandthehydraulicoilhaswarmedupitmayindicateawornhydraulicpump,replacepumpifnecessary.
