The Netherlands and the Great Lakes region Main objective of Dutch efforts in the period of 2019 - 2022*: *Financial information on Dutch efforts in international cooperation can be found in the HGIS-note, published annually in Dutch at www.rijksoverheid.nl The Netherlands is contributing to stability in the Great Lakes region by encouraging cooperation between the various countries. We are addressing in particular the root causes of conflict in the eastern DRC, as this is the least stable part of the region. Integrated approach In the eastern DRC we are supporting initiatives to combat trade in conflict minerals – when money earned from sales is used to perpetuate violence and conflict, often by rebels. We are working to ban the sale of products containing these minerals in the Netherlands. Main themes SDGs Main partners Security and the rule of law The Netherlands supports the UN peace mission (MONUSCO). UN organisations Sexual and reproductive health and rights, including HIV/AIDS We provide victims of sexual violence with medical and legal assistance and psychosocial care. UN organisations, international NGOs Food and nutrition security The Netherlands is working to help find solutions to land conflicts in the eastern DRC. UN organisations, international NGOs Humanitarian aid The Netherlands is contributing to the fight against ebola. UN organisations Climate The Netherlands is helping maintain the Greater Virunga Landscape, a natural area of great importance. International NGOs, regional partnerships The Great Lakes region consists of the DRC, Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi. In addition to the embassies in these countries, the Netherlands also has an Embassy Office in Goma. Published July 2019

Main objective of Dutch efforts in the period of 2019 - 2022*:

The Netherlands is contributing to stability in the Great Lakes
