OverviewMulticom Smart Modem (MSM)software provides a simple and easy-to-use interface between manufacturer provided Upload/Download programming software and alarm panels attached to Multicom communicators.

Traditional PSTN Workflow

What does it do? When an alarm panel has been upgraded to a Multicom communicator, and PSTN is no longer a reporting path, MSM allows traditional U/D programming software to maintain communication with the alarm system.

How does it work? MSM creates a virtual COM port that U/D programming software can connect to. Users can simply enter the Multicom ID and Multicom programming code (eg. 1345#065065000) where they would usually enter the PSTN phone number.

When a connection is detected on the virtual COM port, MSM will create a tunnel to the alarm panel via the Surepoll Servers and Multicom Device. Once connected commands can be issued from the U/D software as though connected via a traditional PSTN path.
