MULTIPILOT NACOS Platinum Series

The Officer´s First Choice Safety accuracy and realiability are paramount in modern navigation at high seas and in confined waters. Increasing traffic and improved interna-tional standards require precise navigation and collision advoidance. For the right information at the right time, the SAM Electronics NACOS Platinum series is the ultimate choice in modern navigation equipment.

Following extensive research into user require-ments, a unique ergonomic design provides new levels of user-friendliness and functionality. SAM Electronics MULTIPILOT Platinum-N underlies such flexibility though the integration of radar, ECDIS, conning and even automation in one compact workstation. When the bridge crew demands fully integrated solutions, the MULTIPILOT Platinum-N is the number one choice.

Commercial-off-the-shelf with Flexible System ArchitectureHardware and Software architecture of the NACOS Platinum is modular and supports the cost functional extension of current suite in response to general market demands or special purpose requirements of individual operator groups as naval applications.

The MULTIPILOT Platinum-N is a compact COTS product (commercial-off-the-shelf ) for use in demanding environments.

The system is completely LAN-based, offering scalability and flexibility to new levels never seen before.

With such adaptability, the MULTIPILOT Platinum-N covers the functionality of all task defined and required for INS systems in the future.

The use of common standard components for the hardware in the NACOS Platinum system gives a strong reduction of needed spare parts in stock.

IMO Conform and Type Approved Radar Picture Merging FunctionWith MULTIPILOT Platinum-N the signals from up to four different antennas can be combined on the workstation to an IMO compliant 360° radar picture.

Since not all radars have a 360 degree view, blanked sectors can be completed by overlay pictures from any other connected radar source.ARPA targets which move from the surveillance sector of one connected antenna to another will be handed over automatically without loss oftheir track data.

Huge Range of Functionalities MULTIPILOT Platinum-N includes the following functionalities: Radar, Chartradar, ECDIS with radar overlay, and Conning. The mode for machi-nery (display or control) can be added optionally. The navigation via the menu bar or from the Super Home screen allows an easy access to the different above mentioned applications.

HSC - Fast Target Tracking The MULTIPILOT Platinum-N is a type approved radar for High Speed Crafts and allows to change the rotation speed of the antenna to either 28/30 or 56/60 rpm (depending on the frequency of the supply voltage: 50 or 60 Hz). This gives the advan-tage of easy tracking for fast moving target., e.g. helicopters, and having a continously trail path presentation on the PPI down to close ranges.

MULTIPILOT Software Package with Special Features for Naval Applications

Sector TransmissionThe operator can define up to 3 sectors in which transmission is to take place while radar silence is to be maintained in all other bearings. The Sector Transmission is in addition to the fixed blanking sectors which are a standard feature of the MULTIPILOT Platinum which will have priority to the case by case generated transmission sectors.

Target Assigment with STANAG 4420 Symbols14 symbols according to STANAG 4420 can be assigned to ARPA/AIS targets for unique identi-fication of unknown, neutral, friendly or hostile contacts and to define sub-surface, surface and air targets.

Also additional user symbols for mines are avai-lable with assignment of identification, type and status.

Synthetic TargetsThis feature allows pursuit of targets and to create targets for training purposes. The targets can be defined by bearing/range, by position and manually on the PPI, together with course and speed values.

Man over BoardAn always visible button on the menu bar allows to mark immediately a fix position on the radar PPI and on ECDIS in case of man over board. The MoB position can also be corrected by position and time data with values for current and wind.

Relative Velocity CalculationRelative Velocity Calculation enables the radar operator to plan and implement an interception of a tracked target. The intercept course and time based on a default speed is displayed for any cursor position on the PPI as long as this feature is activated.

Blind PilotingThis feature provides the ability for passage pre-paration and Blind Piloting in narrow fairways. It provides additional index lines similar to the already in the radar implemented parallel index lines. Up to 16 index lines are available with user defined length.

RIB TrackingThis feature will display the RIB/RHIB as a radar target based on the data which are received from the RIB transponder base station (which is not in scope of supply of MULTIPILOT-N.

Sector ZonesSector Zones define the positions of vessels which are sailing in a fixed formation and to monitor own ship’s position but also to monitor the stati-on keeping of the vessels in the formation.

The shape of a Sector Zone is a segment of a circle similar to a radar guard zone. The sectors can be linked to own ship but also to any other target.

Torpedo ZonesThe Torpedo Zone indicates the launch of a torpe-do. An expanding circle with the theoretical (assumed) speed of the torpedo is displayed after activation with the hostile vessel in its center.

The Torpedo Zone disappears automatically when the maximum run time of the launched torpedo is passed The Weapon Arc is used for gunnery practice with live ammunition. It defines a danger zone where the impact of projectiles is wanted respective probable ricochets are possible.

Weapon ArcsThe Weapon Arc is used for gunnery practice with live ammunition. It defines a danger zone where the impact of projectiles is wanted respective probable ricochets are possible.

Helicopter Landing PathThe Helicopter Landing Path provides the ability to set up an approach sector on the screen. It allows the radar operator to monitor the helicopter’s approach and to offer guidance.

The Helicopter Landing Path is rotable from rela-tive 90 to 270 degrees. The triangle is fixed to a length of 2 nm with a beam width of 10 degrees. It is divided in 4 ranges of 0,5 nm each.

Remote Control InterfacesFor helicopter guidance it is necessary to have a good radar video picture wih best signal-to-noise ratio, especially for the final landing approach. This is achieved to have master control of the radar transmitter/receiver.

MULTIPILOT Platinum-N provides an interface for external remote control to the radar transcei-ver/receiver with full access. The control and radar video can be linked through CDS to the helicopter controller‘s workstation.

Blanking OutputOne or up to three blanking signals can be provi-ded to blank external equipment during the radar transmitting process. The pre-time can be defined during commissioning of the system.

External Radar Video InExternal ρ/φ-orientated radar video sources can be connected. The incoming video signal set is converted to IP protocol and given to the Ethernet LAN.

This video data will be shown on the MULTIPILOT Platinum-N workstation as an under-/overlay to the original radar video.

Serial InputsThe NACOS Platinum equipment gives multiple channels to connect serial data. The quantitiy of the channels is expandable since the hardware is cascadable. Each channel is fully compatible to IEC 61162-1 ed.4.

For redundancy the hardware can be duplicated. If one sensor channel fails the redundant defined channel takes over the task. Malfunctions of sensor inputs are displayed on the MULTIPILOT Platinum-N workstation.

Expansion of the telegram set is possible by adding the special telegram task and activate it during commissioning of the system. Each task can be activated separately and be assigned to any wanted serial interface.

Transponder InterfaceTransponders can be synchronized to the radar transmitter/receiver video. The transponder video is digitized converted to the Ethernet protocol and given to the LAN. The IP video is shown on the MULTIPILOT Platinum-N workstation. An inter-face to give the transponder video block separa-tely to external applications can be provided.
