Multiplication RaceMaterials:- Array Cards ( blue – 5s and 2s, green – 10s and 3s, purple – 4s and 6s, red – 8s, teal –

9s, and orange – 7s)- Game Board- 1 cube, counter, or other small objectDirections:1) The cube is placed on the start box. (Note: Both players share the same cube.) Player

one always move the cube “backwards” towards the finish box on the left side of thegame board. Player two always moves the cube “forwards” towards the finish box on the right side of the game board. A player wins when the cube makes it to his finish square.

2) Put the array cards face down in a pile.3) Player one turns over the first card and reads the multiplication equation with the

missing factor in it. Player two checks the array and verifies that the missing factor is correct. Player one then moves the game piece the number of spaces as themissing factor. (ex. 5 x ____ = 20. The missing factor is 4 so player one moves 4spaces in his direction on the board.)

4) Player two then takes a turn, moving the cube in his direction on the board. Play continues until the cube reaches a finish square.

Variations:.1) Array cards are differentiated based on multiplication families.2) Play with multiplication flashcards to practice fluency.
