*Disclaimer* If you dont have legs of your own, ask a friend!NEVER USE SOMEONE ELSES LEG WITHOUT CONSENT!! Ifyou cant use either of those, try and find something the same

size as the waist youre making the tutu for, i.e. a canister, bowl, roll of paper towels, mannequin, etc.

Now these are AVERAGE! My 2 y/o daughter has a 17 waist. It is

always a good idea to go ahead and measure the childs waist soyou dont wind up with an ankle tutu..

Example: My daughter has a 17 waist, I will cut my elastic 14 longand overlap ending with a waistband total length of 13 . Therewill be more than enough stretch to be comfortable and if she growssome she can still wear it.

AGAINthese are averages. Whatever length you decide you want

the tutu to be, double that and add 1 (this will compensate for thewaistband).

    Chrysanthemum/Spider

You can follow the lengths above, but add another 5 to the total tocompensate for knots and cutting.

    The Boutique Tutu

Cut your elastic to the desired length and make a circle, overlapping the ends . Sew together and pull to make sure itsnot going to come undone. I like to sew a box and then make an Xthrough the center (but Im neurotic, you probably dont need to dothat).

Cut your tulle into strips for your desired length. (In the pictures, Iam making this a little long so you can see the method, but I wonthave to cut more tulle for the Chrysanthemum tutu. Im also lazy!)This is where your cutting template will come in handy. I like touse shipping boxes for mine that are half the size of the total length. This way wrapping the tulle all the way around ONCE = 1 strip. This is my way of doing things, feel free to do whatever is easier foryou.

**Quick Tip! When wrapping your template, make sure the tulle liesflat against it. This way you dont end up with jagged edges.

**Quick Tip! Put your roll of tulle on a rod of some sort (paper towelholder, toilet paper holder), I use a sweater drying rack (I also

store my ribbon on this). That way you dont have to actually wrapit. You can just turn the template over it and get a nice smoothfinish without your arms aching. This also prevents the roll frombecoming twisted.

**Quick Tip! Wrap more than one roll at the same time! BUT youwill probably end up with some strips longer and shorter than theintended length. This is OK in the styles of tutus laid out here, butother styles of tutus require an exact length, so keep that in mindwhen making different tutus.

**Quick Tip! If you are using a 25 yd roll, go ahead and use thewhole thing. Chances are you will need all of it.

**Quick Tip! Use a mens pants hanger to hold your cut strips oftulle so they stay nice and neat.

Now to tie your tulle onto your waistband! There are many differentmethods for doing this, but I will show you the way I like best.

1.Fold a strip of tulle in half.

2.Slide the folded end of the strip under the waistband(folded end will be the pointing towards the chest).

3.Bring the raw ends of tulle up through the folded strip.

4.Using your finger as a place holder, pull the raw endsdownward and tighten. Not so tight the elastic folds, butnot too loose, either.

5.Remove your finger and make any adjustments tostraighten your knot.

Go all around the waistband making these knots with your tullestrips until your reach the first knot. You can alternate colors anyway you like. If you want to make it fuller, you can go in betweenknots and add more. The possibilities are endless!

    The Chrysanthemum Tutu

OK, so youve tied 1 knot to your tulle. Now is where it starts gettinga teeeeeeeensy bit tricky.

Take your next strip of tulle and instead of tying it to the waistbandBESIDE the first knot, youre going to tie it AROUND the first knot.

1.Fold the strip in half.2.Slide the strip under/behind the first knot.

3.Pull ALL 4 raw ends through the folded end.

4.Using your finger as a placeholder, pull ONLY THEBOTTOM 2 raw ends tight. Again, not too loose and notso tight the elastic folds in on itself.

Continue making these double knots around the entire waistband.

When you reach the beginning you will take the next color (in thiscase, light pink) and make single knots between every otherdouble knot.

When you have completed the circle of single knots, you will takeyour third color (in this case, Paris pink) and make single knots inbetween the opposite double knots.

    Spider Chrysanthemum Tutu

OK, so I know we havent finished the other but this next step iswhat will make this tutu a Spider Chrysanthemum!

Take each individual raw end of tulle and tie a knot in it. Not too farfrom the end but leaving a little bit of tail after the knot.

Thats all there is to the Spider-Mum Tutu. If you want, you can callit day and the tutu is complete! But for those of you who want to goall the way.

    The Chrysanthemum Tutu (part 2)

OK, this last step is SUPER EASY! Get your scissors back out andsnip the tail off each of the little knots!

    The Chrysanthemum Hairbow (pony-o)

Time to cut more tulle! Cut 4 strips of tulle 8 long of each color inyour tutu (for this it will be hot pink, Paris pink, and light pink).

Tie a knot in each end of the short strips.

Take a longer piece (16 should be long enough) in whichever coloryou want and tie around the center of your short tulle strips. Thentie onto your pony-o and tie small knots in the ends. You can sewthis in place onto the pony-o if you want (you dont have to but itwill be more secure this way). Leave a little tail after the knot forthe Spider-Mum version or cut off the tail at the knot for theChrysanthemum version.
