It was a rendezvous by chance that

brought Mr. Narendra Paruchuri in

touch with Bhargav Mistry during

the inauguration ceremony at IPEX

09, Mumbai. Having nothing better

to do that afternoon, he was whisked

away by Bhargav on a remarkable

journey through the world of Grafica

and DMI. And Mr. Paruchuri was

indeed impressed.

He took a tour of the factory, its

attached institute and saw how

Bhargav goes about his day. And he

went back full of hope and

happiness, having met someone who

in his words, could change the face

of the printing industry. Grafica’s

editor (GE) interviewed him over the

phone. Here are the excerpts:

GE: What do you think of

Bhargav's nomination to ASPT?

NP: I can't think of a more deserving

candidate. It was news that was

simply astounding. Although I am

not specifically from the screen

printing industry, I have heard about

ASPT and it's indeed great news.

Mr. Narendra Paruchuri gives us a glance into the future of the industry, his encounter

with Bhargav Mistry, and his views on Grafica and DMI.

India's only institute for screen

bagged 2 Gold and one Certificate

of Merit at the ASPT Students'

Imaging Awards Competition,

thus making the entire Indian

screen printing industry proud.

Bhargav Mistry is not new to

challenges. In fact, he delights in

them. And when his first

nomination to ASPT didn't come

through, he knew it was only a

test and just a matter of time.

Because sometimes, no matter

what you do or how hard you try,

things just don't go your way.

Well, that's what sets the winners

apart – they eventually make

things happen no matter what the

odds. Say hello to India's latest

and most celebrated nominee to

the ASPT – Bhargav Mistry.

Halley finds Grafica’s cylinder press, a shining star

Scourging through the market, a trip

to China included, the decision-

makers at Halley had still not found

what they were looking for. Until

chance made them see an

advertisement in a trade magazine

for Grafica's entire range of

advanced screen printing machinery,

including, automatic cylinder press.

It was not like China didn't have the

models they were looking for. It just

didn't seem to match their

expectations. It may also be that a

little bit of Indianness played its

part. So they came right back to the

drawing board. When they

accidentally found out that a world-

class Indian company had the very

same products that they were

looking for, they had no reason to

wait in booking it.

Amit Kubba is not a man who has too

much time on his hands. After all, his

company Sanjaya Enterprises is

India's No. 1 earthenware

(stoneware) printer and he is

devoted in keeping it at that position.

And yet, he took the time to tell us a

little about himself, his life and his

work. More importantly, he had a

few good words to say about Grafica

and the machine he has purchased

–A Cylinder Press with Wicket Dryer.

Sanjaya's story is one carved

in success. His father, the

late Shri Rajkumar Kubba,

started this company 33

years ago with a fully

manual setup including 15

tables and 70 employees. Over

time, the company grew to

become one of the most

preferred suppliers of printed

earthenware and they continue to

maintain that position to this day.

To the uninitiated, ASPT is an

international body of experts that

honours qualified individuals

through election to membership, for

their distinguished, long-term

contributions to, and application and

promotion of, screen and digital

printing and associated imaging

technologies for graphic, textile,

industrial and electronic printing

applications. Instituted in 1973 by

the Board of Directors of the

Specialty Graphic Imaging

Association, it boasts the highest

level of technological expertise in the

screen printing industry. The body is

represented by members from

various countries around the world,

encompassing a variety of specialists

from engineers to journalists,

technicians to fine-art printers,

chemists and others. It is presently

headed by Mr Alex Zuckerman, (who

is also the Chairman of French-based

FIMOR, S.A.S.).

About his nomination Bhargav said,

“I am happy to be elected a member.

It's a great honour and achievement

that recognises my contribution to

the industry.” And he may as well

have earned it. For Bhargav has put

in 20 years into this industry

providing world-class machines and

cutting-edge solutions. Through

DMI, Bhargav has conducted regular

workshops on advanced screen

printing, completely free of charge,

to help build the industry. And as an

ideator, he has literally helped his

clients carve businesses from

nothing to help them stay ahead in

the rat race. He has even

produced a unique

documentary film

“Screen On Screen” that

showcases the advanced

screen-printing process

on video and has

screened this film in

more than 15 cities seen

by around 1200 printers

across India to promote

the industry.

Today, Bhargav stands

at the brink of creating a

revolution. And this

nomination is just the

shot in the arm for a

man who has possibly

done more for screen

printing in India than

anyone has ever dreamed possible.

Well, humility is his forte and he

casually says, “This is only the

beginning.” We would truly like to

think so.

On Bhargav's Nomination to ASPT

Dear Friends,

It gives me great pleasure to bring

you this edition of Grafica News. This

copy is very special for many reasons

– for the first time I have started to

express my views about our industry

and to share my experience in screen

printing technology.

But before I begin, I wish all good

health to my GURU and MENTOR,

Michel Caza who has passed through

a very tough time and is just

recovering from a massive cancer

operation which took more than 10

hours to complete. In a recent email

to me, he mentioned that a memento

of Lord Ganesha which we gifted to

him a few years ago was with him

even during his operation. On behalf

of my team and Grafica News, we

wish him the very best of health and

a speedy recovery.

There's good news this month for the

Grafica family. Many of our industry

friends recently made India proud by

winning awards at international

printing competitions. Big wins were

recorded at SGIA, USA, ASGA

competition held in Shanghai and

the FESPA INDIA '09 competition.

Winning is becoming a habit for

these companies. I wish them all

success for future competitions.

My Institute DMI also secured a

HATRICK this year by winning 2

Golds and 1 Honorary Mention for

Paper Carry Bag, Textile Transfer &

Saree Box. My students Shailesh &

Firoz did a great job and helped DMI

receive international recognition in

the students' competition.

This year, I was proud to launch

NANO-PRINT, Grafica's latest

innovation. It's a Low-cost, High-

quality Screen Printing Machine for

every screen printing application

across the globe. It is my dream and

vision to turn every manual screen

printer in India towards automation.

I am sure NANO-PRINT will make

this possible as from the day we

made the announcement via emails

and press releases, we have booked

more than 3 times the orders we

expected. I am sure NANO-PRINT

will break all world records soon.

Finally with great support from

Michel Caza, Ex-Chairman of ASPT,

Alex Zuckerman, Chairman of ASPT

and many other friends like Mike

Young and Charlie Taublieb, I was

nominated and elected as a member

of the Academy of Screen Printing

Technology (ASPT). Today it makes

me proud to be the youngest

member of this academy which is

recognized the world over. A

message that I would like to pass on

by this experience is that hard work

and dedication definitely pays. So

keep going and do not lose hope.

Every year, the Dussera function

at Grafica is a full house. And

that's because everyone

participates. There are no prizes

for guessing that this is probably

the most sought-after event at

Grafica. From dressing up in

fancy costumes to displaying a

unique talent, every member of

the staff gives it their best shot.

You might ask why not? After all,

there are huge cash rewards for

the most entertaining group or

person, and even runners-up

walk away winning moolah. But

year after year, more than the

prizes, it's the spirit of

participation that drives them to

stay back late after office hours

and practice. Bhargav Mistry, of

course, ensures that there are

plenty of snacks, home transfers,

and overtime pay. What a

company!

Halley is a Surat-based multi-

disciplinary printing house that not

just provides great printing facilities

but also advertising and marketing

solutions to a wide range of clients.

They manufacture tags for clothing,

fancy paper bags, packaging

materials with UV special effects

varnishing, dress material packaging

such as shirt boxes, saree boxes and

cosmetic boxes, stickers, eco-friendly

products, perfume boxes, duplex

cartons, corrugated boxes and offer

other paper printing services. Halley

is headed by Mr. Tanay Mehta and

his other two co-directors – Chirag

Bhatt and Snehal Modi.

Halley's current infrastructure is

spread over a 5000 sq. ft. area in

Surat, Gujarat while they are

headquartered at the World Trade

Center there. It has its own in-house

design and marketing team, printing

unit (both offset and screen) along

with all the latest machinery to cater

to the advertising and marketing

needs of its customers. For offset, it

has a Roland offset machine and its

screen printing unit has another

semi-automatic screen printing

machine and 3 UV dryers plus other

post-press operation facilities

including die-cutting.

“The Grafica cylinder press is rugged

yet simple to operate and is beyond

par in both quality and cost

effectiveness. We understood that all

components were rigorously tested

to make sure that it meets

international standards,” Mr. Mehta

recounts. It is capable of printing on

both soft and semi-rigid substrates at

high speeds. Mr. Mehta says

“Cylinder press is the 'offset

machine' of the screen printing

process since it is much faster with

2200 sheets per hour. So, for our

multi-faceted jobs, it is the right

choice rather than a semi automatic

machine”.

“Grafica is a transparent company

with a very professional approach.

Besides explaining how the machines

work and all the finer details, the

company invested a whole lot in

after-sales support,” says Mr. Mehta.

“I was fully convinced with the test

run before I bought the machine.

Besides, the ready availability of

spares and components puts us at

ease when it comes to using them.”

While Halley might believe that this

is the end of their tedious search in

finding the perfect solution for their

clients, for Grafica it is only the

beginning of a long relationship that

promises to deliver more to their

clients in the days to come.

About Amit Kubba

Amit Kubba

entered his

father's

business 10

years ago and

there has

been no

looking back since then. He

believes that his greatest

achievement is having taken over

where his father left off and kept

his company at the top spot. He

says his proudest moment will be

when this company achieves his

plans for growth and expansion.

Amit lives with his two kids, his

wife, mother and younger

brother. Amit says that patience,

honesty and dedication are the

keys to his success. His advice to

those entering the business are,

“If you can come up with new

technology and infrastructure,

good business is possible. And

very soon we can leave countries

like China, far behind.” We wish

Amit the best in his endeavours.

In conversation with Amit

Kubba of Sanjaya

Sanjaya's sister concern, Sanjaya

Arts and Paper makes transfer paper

that is used extensively in the screen

printing industry. They also have

another company – Printman India

– which is managed by his younger

brother and they own Grafica’s Fully

Automatic Cylinder Press with in-

line Wicket Dryer.

The Grafica Connection

Amit wanted excellent reproduction

on bone-china and tiles. Rejection

was a common problem before since

the finishes just weren't coming

right. The new Grafica’s Cylinder

Press gives him a definite edge. They

now have the capacity to print 4

times the size with an excellent

reproduction.

Sanjaya has enjoyed a 15-year

relationship with Grafica and they

have always known that they make

the best machines. Before, they had

the option to import new machines

or second-hand ones, but now

thanks to Grafica, it appears that

their needs have been met within the

country itself. In Amit's own words,

the machine helps bring in a certain

consistency that they were lacking

earlier. They have also been able to

save labour and the expertise too has

grown by leaps and bounds.

After installation, we received ample

support in terms of after-sales

service. In fact, they were thoroughly

briefed on all the technical aspects of

the machine. “When I took the first

Cam-Shell machine from Grafica, I

met Bhargav Mistry and promised

him that one day I will buy cylinder

press from him. I'm glad I could keep

that promise” says, Amit.

GE: What did you feel like when

you came to DMI?

NP: It was a wonderful experience.

Bhargav showed me so many things.

Being in the industry for so many

years, I had no idea that screen

printing had made such great

strides. I'd like to think of it as a

learning experience – one that I am

not bound to forget. I think the

biggest advantage is to the screen

printing industry which will benefit

tremendously from Bhargav's

expertise. This one afternoon was

really worthwhile. I'm glad I made

this trip to Mumbai although for

entirely different reasons. Bhargav

made that trip even more

memorable.

GE: Tell us what you think of

the future of this industry?

NP: I think we have come a long way

from the days of the now obsolete

letter press. The industry has grown

by leaps and bounds. And machinery

has become cheaper than before. So

the low entry barrier is a big

advantage for those wanting to join

the industry. And what I saw of

Bhargav's machines makes me

confident that the future looks bright

for screen printing technology. I was

particularly impressed by his latest

development Nano-Print. It's quite a

wonderful piece of equipment. Again

I'd like to stress that Bhargav is

putting in a lot of effort into this and

it augurs well for the industry.

About Pragati

Established in 1962, Pragati offers high-quality print services to clients in India and the world over. Equipped with

unmatched technology and infrastructure, people and processes, they provide cutting-edge print services from

offices across India and in New York. From coffee-table books to brochures and calendars, high-quality

paperboard cartons to luxury rigid boxes, and flexographic labels to shrink-sleeves -- Pragati covers the full gamut

of print needs.

Pragati invests in technology that enables them to offer customers products that are at the cutting edge of global

trends. They were pioneers in technologies such as phototypesetting, spot UV coating, computer-to-plate output,

UV offset printing and many more. With printing experience of over 45 years, and having won many national and

international awards, Pragati remains at the forefront of printing in India.

GE: You spoke about Grafica's

machines. Could you elaborate?

NP: Yes, well the machinery is truly

state-of-the-art. Going by what I saw

at Grafica, the resolution that is

possible is on par with that of the

offset printing. Now I have been in

the business for close to 30 years

and of what I see today, I am truly

impressed. The machinery, the

technical advancements, the

expertise of the individuals involved

– they all make for a splendid mix.

The embellishments that are

possible is truly wonderous.

GE: About Bhargav Mistry?

NP: Oh! I think he is a wonderful

person. What Bhargav is doing for

the industry is truly amazing. He has

risen above personal gains and is

looking at developing the industry as

a whole. He is not just looking at

doing business, he sells ideas. He is

creating livelihoods for people and

wonderful opportunities for the

screen printing industry. Now that is

going beyond the call of duty. What

Bhargav has done is create a whole

new way of looking at the business.

GE: How does screen printing

fit into your business?

NP: You see, we have been in the

printing business for close to half a

century now. It is no longer about

doing standard print jobs – every

client looks at what you can deliver

on a larger scale. Screen printing had

given us so many things that offset

cannot. That is not to say that offset

is any less – just that the perfection

and finishes that are possible in

screen printing is something else.

The technology today is faster, better

and cleaner – now it's up to me to

figure out how best to use it. I

believe that it will definitely benefit

us. In these tough times, my client's

demands can be met for a lot

cheaper on a screen printing

machine. So yes, it's surely a value-

addition and I do look forward to

bigger and better things from

Grafica.

GE: One nano statement about

the Nano-Print?

NP: Very inexpensive and a

wonderful piece of machinery.

Ahmedabad-based, Image Care Pvt.

Ltd., is an integrated marketing and

communication company that is all-

set to make waves in the advertising

and marketing space with the back

up of screen printing technology.

During its decade-long existence, the

company's top management felt that

the outcome of their designing was

not satisfactory as the printing of

jobs were not as they visualized,

especially in screen printing. So the

Directors of the company, Mr. Ashish

Desai who is a qualified printing

technologist, and his younger

brother, Mr Anuj Desai, decided to

have their own screen printing set-

up. This move helped the company

to convert intangible opportunities

into tangible ones, and gradually the

in-house screen printing set-up

became the company's new strength.

Today, as a printing house, Image

Care prints direct mailers, company

brochures, menu

cards, carry bags,

garment tags, POP

material (4 color

printing on Sunpack

and sunboard),

customized

dispensers, calendars,

wedding cards, key

pad fascias,

automotive decals etc.

“After installing

Grafica machines, we

are the first one in Gujarat to offer 4-

color quality screen printing on

sunpack and sunboard”, claims Mr.

Desai.

First impression is the best

impression!

“Grafica made us fall in love with

screen printing technology”, he

replies when asked about their

decision to buy Grafica machines. At

a time when they were looking for a

UV machine 3 years ago, they came

across the newly introduced 12 inch

table top UV machine of Grafica at

an exhibition. “We opted for it

immediately as it was meeting our

requirements and was easy to

operate. But, at that time we never

knew that it was made by a company

which is equally passionate and

knowledgeable about screen

printing,” says Mr. Desai.

“During the buying process, we also

visited DMI. And, after seeing the

facilities of both DMI and Grafica, we

fell in love with the modern screen

printing set-up. And, right away, we

decided that if at all we were to

expand our printing business, we will

not even inquire about any other

machines but Grafica,” recalls Mr.

Desai.

Exactly after 3 years, when they

decided to go for a complete set up,

their choice was obvious. And the

rest is history. The company has also

installed Grafica's total screen

making equipments, semi automatic

30” x 40” Cam Shell and a UV dryer.

As we promised that GRAFICA

would bring revolution in screen-

Grafica's NANO-PRINT at New

Delhi and Kolkata.

One of our reputed customers

from Jharkhand (Cosmic

DMI workshop that they had run

Grafica machines non-stop for 6

months 20 hours a day without

any maintenance. This is what

our machine speaks; this is what

our customers speak.

A complete sample gallery was

The NANO-PRINT needs little introduction. This marvel of engineering has caught the screen-printing world's attention and has charmed its way into the hearts of those who have come in contact with it. The only thing remaining was to launch it formally. And what better place to do that than in Kolkata at the Eastern Print Pack Exhibition.

The stage was set. Market studies

revealed that there was a good

demand for a small size low-budget

printing machine that could deliver

being Micro-embossing via Screen

Printing.

The Way Ahead

Most of the offset printers were

apprehensive about looking at new

machinery considering them to be a

huge investment. After all, margins

are low and survival matters more

than making a profit in today's tough

times. However, when they saw the

results of what was possible using

Screen Printing, they looked at it as

an opportunity where Screen and

Offset could subsist side-by-side and

growth was indeed inevitable.

The Results

It has been a successful show for

Grafica and NANO-PRINT. Around

15 machines were booked and dozens

of serious inquiries were generated

which in itself is a grand success.

DMI concludes three successful workshops

Workshop Creativity

Three successful

workshops in 6 months.

Grafica’s DMI seems to be

moving at a phenomenal

pace to put knowledge and

subsequently power in the

hands of every individual

who is related to the

printing industry. In some

cases, it is those people

who merely want to get an

inside view of the world of

screen printing. Well,

whatever the reason,

everyone comes out

feeling tremendously

impressed.

These workshops are not

just 3 days of speeches

and seminars. They are an

interactive workspace

where one grows and

learns. The structure is

such that participants

spend more time in the lab

looking at and getting a

feel of the actual printing

process rather than

listening to experts giving

their views on the

business. And Bhargav

Mistry takes time out from

his already taxing

schedule to ensure that

each one learns the craft

personally from him.

Every element of the

workshop is sponsored,

including the special

meals that make the

learning process that

much more enjoyable.

Participants merely have

to land up and are taken

through a wonderful

joyride through the world

of modern screen printing.

Registrations for the

upcoming workshop in

December are open. The

workshop will be held on

17th, 18th and 19th of

December 2009. Book

I am thankful to you for giving us

theoretical as well as practical

knowledge on Screen Printing. I had

a very strong desire from the day I

joined Saati India to get Training

from D.M.I and today my wish is

fulfilled. Today I am clear of my

doubts when you covered the USP of

the products. I once again thank you

for making this subject interesting

50 PVG Students Visits-DMI

DMI organizes exclusive one day workshopon Screen Making for Saati India Team

Advantage PVG

DMI is always trying to break new

grounds. Recently they organised

a workshop unlike anything they

have ever done before. It was for a

group of students from PVG Pune

– an institute much like DMI, that

offers a special degree in printing

technology. This time though,

DMI was conducting this

workshop exclusively for these

students. The college had its own

apprehensions about sending the

students and the expenses

involved. That’s when Bhargav

Mistry made an offer to even foot

their traveling and

accommodation expenses. When

they saw this level of commitment,

they had no choice but to send

their entire batch of students at

50% of the cost. Of course, the

students were the biggest winners,

taking back experiences and ideas

that will last a lifetime. The story

in pictures.

Another unique workshop that

was organized by DMI was for

SAATI India. It was the first time

that DMI was conducting a

workshop exclusively for a

company and its employees. The

praises that DMI received

afterward said it all. Shashank

Nadkarni, Sales Manager, was

thoroughly impressed. “This is

the first time that I have

experienced something like this

in my 15 years in this industry.”

Ms. Shalaka Prabhu, MD, said,

“The workshop was amazing.

After attending this workshop I

can come back and teach my sales

people more about the business

we work in.” Looks like DMI is

winning hearts in every way

possible.

Kaleido Graphics, a trusted customer

of Grafica, is one of the few

companies who have established

themselves as a successful player in

the heat transfer segment. “We have

been in this field for the last 10 years

and are pioneers in this market”,

says Mr. P. Ramaswamy, one of the

founding partners of Kaleido

Graphics. He also quickly adds, “We

had struggled a lot to reach the

position that we are in today”.

Recently, the Germany based

Hohenstein Textile Testing Institute

GmbH & Co KG (HTTIG) has issued

a certificate to Kaleido Graphics,

authorizing the company to use the

Oeko-Tex Mark according

to the OekoTex Standard

100. The certification

issued by the Institute on

June 16, 2009 noted that

the company's product –

heat transfer sticker' for

application in garments -

has been tested for harmful

substances. The

certification has shown that

the company's heat transfer

stickers met the human ecological

requirement of the standard

presently established for baby

articles. So, for a company which

has seen a lot of highs and lows, this

certification itself is an international

achievement.

In 2003, we took a bold step by

setting up a small heat transfer unit

with one Grafica machine. Now, we

have a full-fledged in-house

processing facility which includes a

designing unit, and entire pre press

set up from Grafica. Today, with the

help of exporters and other buying

houses, we are in a strong position

and serving all our clients with

assured quality and committed

deliveries”.

Why Grafica?

After a thorough evaluation we

found that Grafica technology suited

our needs. Above all, we must

appreciate their on-time after-sales

service.

And now, how is the

performance of the machine?

Kaleido Graphics Tirupur achieved Oeko Tex Certification

From Army to a successful businessman in Screen Printing

About V&M and its founders

V&M, a 15-year old company that

Suman Chawla, a virtuous

teacher by profession with BA,

B.Ed degree. But the woman is

more than just a teacher – she is

a trained skydiver and has

climbed “Ladakhi Peak” in the

Kinnaur Himalayas.

If benevolence is his natural passion,

compassion is in his blood. While

venturing into the business of leather

products, Col Anil Chawla (Retd)

strongly felt that Indian industry

needs to tap the latent potential of its

intelligent and hardworking poor

and speed up their

betterment. So in its own

way, his company V&M

provides employment to

over 250 rural craftsmen at

its plant, located in

Manesar, about 35 km from

Delhi airport.

“Our R&D is guided by the

need for blending crafts-

manship with modern machines.

Moreover, even our unlettered

workers are given an opportunity to

handle modern machines.” Now, in

the business of leather products, the

retired Colonel makes strategies to

deal with a friendly enemy called

competition using employees fired

with 'enthusiasm' winning over

foreign buyers by convincing them of

Indian quality and reliability. The

company has a full-fledged screen

printing set up with an 18” x 24”

semi automatic screen printing

machine, total pre-press and a 12”

UV dryer – all from Grafica.

Why Grafica?

Given the screen printing scenario in

India, Grafica is doing a good job

offering the right kind of machines

and technology, expertise in printing

techniques and creating awareness

among entrepreneurs.

Benefit of automation

Today, Ratan Printers is not only

machine, our confidence in printing

has also gone up and in turn the

customers’ confidence in us has gone

Quality

“We take care of quality also. We do

Rajesh Rana too joined the

business as Director. He looks

after the marketing activities

while as MD, Mr. Rakesh Rana

takes care of sourcing and overall

management.

As a Machine Tool Engineer,

what was reason behind

venturing into industrial

printing?

Industrial printing is a very fast

growing field and I found it was

lacking quality suppliers. So

when we decided to venture into

business, we thought this field to

be the right one.

What is your definition of

quality when it comes to

industrial printing?

Long life of switches, durability,

scratch resistance, adhesive

strength, printing accuracy,

constant improvement of product

quality, among many other

things.

On Environment

We always believe in eco-friendly

activities and that's the reason

why we have selected the

Gandhinagar to set up our plant

which is a green city.

Guru SpeaksGuru Speaks

“In front of health, business,

friendship, technical problems....

or family problems.... remains

always positive... and you will

always win !"

Michel Caza, Past President, FESPA & ASPT

WHAT HAPPENED AND HOW I

FEEL NOW !

Some more details for those who

don't have all of them, but not too

many as I know many men are

reticent about too precise

“anatomical details” - contrarily to

most women !

As some of you know I discover at

the end of June that I had a cancer

(in medium rectum), important but

“localized”.

I decided to consider it as a “normal

event” of life, from the scientific

point of view and as coolly as

possible… We all know that the older

we are the bigger are the risks of that

kind of trouble (here a family

predisposition from my mother

side). This is not that difficult when

you are not afraid of death and are

the kind of “bear” I am !.

Then we must stop to consider

“cancer” as a word which should not

be named, both magic and dirty…

Some peoples still say a ”long and

difficult illness” or other images but

the word “cancer” is a simple, clear

and common medical disease. Why

to hide it !

The operation was an obligation, but

I had to add, after all the possible

exams (MRI, scanner, radioscopy,

etc.) firstly a chemotherapy

combined with a radiotherapy (45

Grays) in six/seven weeks during the

end of July, August and the first

week of September.

The results were surprising and

positive with a reduction of 50% of

the tumour. No secondary effects.

Then, six/seven weeks relaxing and

operation programmed for Monday

November 9.

The surgery itself – fortunately made

by a surgeon using the very last

version of the robot Da Vinci (I

expect some videos) – has been

extremely long, 9-10 hours, instead

of 4 or 5, due to some technical

complications in my body that I will

explain to those who desires it… if

there are some (!). The intervention

in very complicate parts of the body

and through coeliotomy (small

openings) would not have been so

successful without the robot !

The only problem is that no one

could tell Therese (my wife) where I

was exactly, until 7 PM when the

anaesthetist went out and could call

her to explain why it was so long !

Big stress for her and all the friends

calling every hour from all over the

world !

The following week was at the

hospital, a little painful and a lot of

things to learn from the medical

point, such as how to make

injections to myself (some peoples

hate the idea !) and back home last

Sunday, two days sooner than

expected as I recovered very fast.

Now I need 7 to 8 weeks relaxing, for

healing inside and a new small

operation will follow to restore the

“normal transit” which is actually…

“diverted”. Not the funniest part of

the game, believe me !

Normally, I shall be fully in activity

beginning of February (Textile

Exhibition in Lyon, Moscow for

Seminar, Symphonie Visuelle in

Paris etc…).

But so far, I can work on my

computer almost normally, just sleep

a lot and rest in armchair and walk a

little to feel OK.

Each day is better than the precedent

and I will soon be back on the

ground !

Last but not least, my philosophy of

life changed slightly, many things

took a new place and I learned that if

FESPA and ASPT are of the most

important thing in my life, it is not

only because there are fascinating

things by themselves, but mostly for

the giant friendship it created for me

and reciprocally with you, my friends

of the ASPT, FESPA, SGIA but also

with all the peoples we had the

occasion to meet all over the world !

Lot of hugs to all of you, hoping to

see some of you soon !

Michel Caza

For the first time since 1982, I missed an ASPT meeting

Dear Friends, Grafica customers

and colleagues,

This is to inform you that my

Guru Michel Caza recently had a

major cancer surgery and after 10

hours of long operation he is now

recovering and is in good health.

You all will be surprised that a

memento of Lord Ganesha which

was given to him by us was with

him all the time during the long

hour operation.

Instead of his regular technical

articles exclusively written for our

newsletter is replaced by his letter

sent to me which is a nice story

about his health experience which

I wish to share with you.

If any one would like to wish for

this good health, then you may

please write to him on

Manufacturing fully automatic

screen printing lines at Grafica has

become a habit with precision and

perfection on day to day basis.

But the most toughest job and

challenge for our engineers was to

built an affordable machine for every

common screen printer across the

globe with high quality, fully

featured, sturdy machine which

requires minimum setting and

maintenance without compromising

on safety, performance, quality,

reliability, installation, warranty,

service, and of-course one day

training at our in-house advance

training centre DMI (Dhirubhai

Mistry Institute for Print Education

Research & Training)

Finally we made it a perfect semi-

automatic screen printing machine

screen printer across the globe with

print area 15” x 20”. Its easy to start

and operate, just like switching on a

light or a fan.

With our vast experience of more

than 2 decades in the field of

manufacturing high quality screen

printing, UV curing machines and

allied products and 3 years in

providing advance training and

education to many professionals and

beginners in our in-house training

centre we came across thousands of

printers with whom we exchanged

ideas and understood their basic

needs and fear in their mind.

NANO-PRINT is a product

developed by our expert team from

those research, ideas and needs of

every screen printers.

Its fully featured machine and does

not require any hassle of running a

separate compressors and three

phase power. Its a workhorse

can even run in any

commercial or

residential area to

avoid noise pollution.

skilled labor thus avoids

dependency on those

skilled labor which they

directly or in directly

develop from your

company at your cost and

thereafter you are

dependent on them

forever.

with one year complete warranty not

only on manufacturing defects but

including all electrical and electronic

spares. The installation of this

machine is done by our expert and

experienced team to ensure trouble

free operation from day one and to

get quality output with perfect

registration. The package consist of

one day’s in-house training at DMI

as well as onsite training at your

works during installation.

The non-stop speed of NANO-PRINT

is 1000/impression per hour which

also replaces one person if compared

with conventional manual table. It

consume very less power with

running cost Rs. 5.00/per hour in

Mumbai (considering Rs. 7.00 per

unit) which might even work less in

other cities. So overall it works to Rs.

40/per 8 hours shift which is quite

economical then hiring even an

ordinary helper.

NANO-PRINT is the most perfect

engineered machine built to last

longer requires minimum

maintenance and blocks only 12 sq.

ft space. Its very affordable, fast and

Nano nt Nano-Print News

Damanpal Singh, Proprietor

Ferro Fabs Industries, Ludhiana

What prompted you to buy the

NANO-PRINT?

We are basically a manufacturer of

bicycle peddles. But we have some

requirements for printing as well.

We bought the machine to meet our

production requirement. It is well

built and a model of efficiency for

printing quality jobs. Above all, this

machine is very reasonably priced,

well within one’s budget.

What did you like the most in

NANO-PRINT?

Its speed, this machine’s production

capability is very good. Using this

machine gives us great comfort as

against doing tedious manual labour

work.

What about the performance of

the machine so far?

We are achieving very good results.

What are the benefits of NANO-

PRINT as per your experience?

As per my experience with the

machine, I found there are many

advantages such as:

(a) It is a great help in achieving

higher production as compared to

manual operation.

(b) The colour reproduction is very

accurate.

(c) Far more better quality than

manual labour work.

(d) It is a big time saver (waste of

time is a big problem when you do

things manually)

(f) It is the smallest machine which I

have ever seen. Naturally, it occupies

less space (which is also a kind of

savings in terms of overall cost of

printing business).

(e) Lastly, after using this machine

not only has our production gone up

rapidly, but the business is also

expected to increase.

What is the need for a machine

like NANO-PRINT?

By introducing NANO, Grafica is

helping the screen printers to grow

in business and create a bright future

in printing.

Mr. Mukesh V. Tejani, CEO

Om Communication, Bhavnagar

This is the FIRST NANO-PRINT

customer. Mr. Tejani who happened

to attend a workshop at DMI, made

an on the spot booking for NANO-

PRINT after its launch and demo.

So, when there are so many bigger

machines are available, why did you

prefer to buy a NANO-PRINT?

In the printing world, I am a small

printer and Grafica's NANO-PRINT

suits me best in all aspects - space,

operating system, price, and above

all print quality and higher

production capability.

What are you printing using

NANO-PRINT?

I am using this machine to print

wedding and invitation cards, office

stationary and in future I want to

print commercial items like small

posters, pre printed wedding card

sheets.

What are the features of NANO-

PRINT which are useful to your

job?

There is not a single feature which is

not useful. It is up to us how to use

and take benefit from it.

Do you have plans to buy more

NANO-PRINT. If yes, why?

Yes as and when the need arises,

because NANO-PRINT is a

PARTNER in my business and

growth, without sharing a PROFIT.

In my case, with NANO-PRINT, I

can proudly say that I can only give

best quality printing service in

screen printing as compared to those

who do manual jobs in and around

Bhavnagar where my unit is located.

And, we use only quality inks and

other materials in printing.

You happened to attend DMI

workshop. How was your

experience?

In nutshell I can say that DMI is

opening doors for new opportunities.

We were not doing (or knowing) so

many varieties of special effects as

shown at the DMI workshop. It was

an excellent opportunity to see DMI

and its high technology set up. The

content was sufficient to understand

the correct method of screen

printing. We have already started

experimenting on new jobs and we

are getting good results in UV.

Your view on Grafica's

contribution to screen printing

industry:

I have no words as the very NANO-

PRINT itself speaks for itself.

Ravi Patidar, Proprietor

Naturo Graphics, Indore, M.P.

Please explain the reason for

buying NANO-PRINT when

there are so many bigger

machines available?

I feel as if this machine is specially

made only for me as 80% of jobs are

within 15”x20” size. Grafica has

named it NANO, but according to me

it is a JUMBO-capability machine. I

think only 10-20% of the jobs require

bigger machines.

What did you like the most in

NANO-PRINT?

The whole machine is a tremendous

masterpiece of engineering and

workmanship. Every feature is

simple but powerful.

What are the advantages of

NANO-PRINT?

I can't specify any particular

advantage, but I can share a secret

that it doesn’t have a single

disadvantage!

Which features of NANO-

PRINT are useful to your job?

It is designed so well that its every

feature is useful. We are able to

enjoy all its features.

Do you have plan to buy more

NANO-PRINT, if yes why?

My experience with their first

machine is very satisfactory, I can

think of going for more, depending

upon the frequency of jobs in future.
