Stage 4 Visual Arts students have completed
their Short Sculpture unit; Mechanimals. In
this unit students were to design and construct
animals made of both organic and inorganic
materials. Students used a variety of
materials and explored a diverse range of
construction methods to complete their
sculptures. These look great and will be on
display in the office shortly.

Work Experience for Year 9 and Year 10 students.
Work experience provides a general introduction to the ‘world of work’. Students are able to observe a
variety of work, usually in a field of their choice, and undertake supervised tasks appropriate to their
skill level.
It is important as it builds on the career planning and transition activities for your child at school and
can assist with the subject choices in senior high school.
The aim of work experience is to help students develop skills and understanding of the workplace; and
plan for the future. Work experience is an introduction to employment giving students the opportunity
to explore areas of interest. It is not a paid job, and students must complete a booklet to collect
evidence of skills gained and evaluation by the employer that can be used in future resumes.
Students are responsible for organising their work experience: from the initial contact with the
employer to travel and accommodation during work experience. The school will support students and
parents throughout the process wherever possible.
All students are working on letters and practicing interview techniques during Career lessons with
myself. Work experience for Year 9 and 10 students will commence on the 1 December to 5
December 2014.
This is a great opportunity for your child to experience life in the workforce.

Title: Away
Author: Michael Gow
Publisher: Currency Press
For ages: 15-17 years
Away is the story of three Australian families who go on holiday during the
Christmas of 1968. Roy and Coral (the headmaster and his wife) are becoming
increasingly close to breaking up. Their son was killed in the Vietnam War and
Coral is still grieving for him. Tom and Meg were in the school’s production of A
Midsummer’s Nights Dream. Tom has Leukaemia, and his parents, Harry and
Vic, haven’t told him that he is going to die, but Tom has worked it out already.
Tom and his family immigrated to Australia from England. They are going on
holiday knowing that it could be their last together as a family, and are determined to have a good time.
Meg is the same age as Tom and they both like each other. Meg’s parents, Gwen and Jim are going on
holiday so Gwen can have a break. Gwen is a rather uptight and stressed person and thinks that to
have anything good happen you have to make sacrifices. During each of the three families holidays
there is a storm and they coincidently end up on the same beach.

In February 2014, the Federal
Government announced a range of
drought assistance funding measures

Armidale Dumaresq, Glen Innes
Severn, Guyra, Gwydir, Moree Plains,
Narrabri, Tamworth Regional,

surrounding villages.
To deliver these events, Carers NSW
has partnered with The Ascent Group,
Anglicare Northern Inland, Centacare
New England North West,
Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW,
Challenge and Richmond PRA.
Mungindi will hold its event Tuesday
25 November 2014 from 3:30 pm to

Good for Kids good for life The Lunchbox equation
Are you struggling for ideas for your childs lunchbox? Here are a few tips to ensure the balance is
right.
A main meal e.g. sandwich, wrap, salad, home-made dish etc. that includes vegetables and a
protein food e.g. meat, fish, chicken, egg, cheese. Aim for wholegrain varieties such as
wholemeal or multigrain breads, wraps, brown rice or wholemeal pasta etc.
A piece of fruit – whole, cut into bite sized pieces, canned fruit in natural or unsweetened juice
or dried fruit very occasionally.
A healthy snack – vegetable sticks with salsa or hummus, cheese and crackers, wholegrain
crackers with toppings etc.
A drink – water is the best choice everyday
An extra snack can be included for active children.
As a treat pack a small ‘extra’ pre-packaged snack once a week to teach children about eating “occasional” foods sometimes and not every day. Reference:
