The Recreation Department strives to improve the quality of life for all the residents of Prospect Park through innovative, exciting, and effective programs and events. The Recreation Department enlists the feedback, support and help of the Recreation Advisory Committee. All residents interested in participating as a member of the committee are encourages to contact the Recreation Office. Nestled in the northwest corner of the Borough is Hofsta Park, a 70 acre wooded refuge and recreational complex. The park is home to Camp Hofstra Summer Day Camp. Within the park are two baseball fields, a multi-purpose/soccer field, children’s swings and playground gym, a pavilion, baskerball courts, a tennis court, a walking/bike trail, and the jewel of the property, the Spray Park. The Spray Park is open seasonally on the weekends and is open 7 days a week during the school break in the summer. SECRETARY 973-790-7902 EXT. 523The Board of Health conducts monthly blood pressure screenings, annual flu shots, and other programs to promote wellness. Literature is available in the Municipal Building.

The Borough of Prospect Park has secured library privilege agreements with both the Borough of Haledon and the Borough of Hawthorne Public Libraries. A family library card is $20.00 for the year, a senior library card is $15.00 for the year. Residents can have library privileges at 1 of the 2 libraries. Card applications and payment are available in the Borough Clerk’s Office Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Completed applications with the raised Borough seal are required in advance to obtain a library card at either participating library. The mission of the Mayors Wellness Campaign is to equip

mayors and other key leaders with the tools and strategies to develop and implement active-living initiatives with the goal of improving overall health and wellbeing of their communities. The Mayors Wellness Campaign provides the platform and tools necessary to help make the community a healthier place to live and work. The Borough of Prospect Park continues to expand its curriculum of programs offered in the Wellness Campaign in order to continually promote health in the lives of youth, seniors, employees; and the general community. The current list of programs includes, but is not limited to:

The Mayors Wellness Campaign will continue to network and communicate with other participants to share our activites and learn about our introducing more successful programs.

The Municipal Alliance Committee is funded through the Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and program specific fundraisers. The Municipal Alliances are established by the local governing body, and engage residents, local government and law enforcement officials, schools, nonprofit organizations, the faith based community, parents, youth and other allies in efforts toward prevention of alcoholism and drug abuse in the community. The Municipal Alliances identify the needs of the community through assessment and implement evidenced based programs and strategies addressing the areas of concern. One of these programs is D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) in public and parochial schools.

Tax AssessorFire DepartmentThe missions and purpose of the Prospect Park Police Department is generally threefold:1. To preserve life and property2. To provide a general police service for the residents of the Borough of Prospect Park3. To enforce Federal, State, County and Municipal Laws, Statutes, and Ordinances twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week

The Prospect Park Fire Department’s primary function is to protect the people and their property in times of fire or emergency.The Prospect Park Fire Department is trained and ready for fire, rescue, and other emergency situations. The Fire Department is ready at any time, at any moment’s notice.If you would like to join the Volunteer Fire Department, you must be 18 years or older. Applications are available at both Fairview Ave. and Brown Ave. Firehouses.

Issues Building, Plumbing, Electrical, and Fire permits as per the Uniform Construction Code of the State of New Jersey. The daily functions of the department are to enforce the housing standards of the Borough of Prospect Park, to inspect homes applying for the Certificate of Compliance at sale, and to inspect for building and homes as per the building BOCA code.

The Tax Assessor is available to the general public on Wednesdays between 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon by appointment. The Tax Assessor may be contacted by calling 973-835-5331 (leave a message on the answering machine with a telephone number you can be reached at).This office has applications for senior citizen deductions, veteran’s deductions, and disabled persons deductions. Requirements for deductions are printed on the application. The Tax Assessor is willing to mail one to homeowners at request.Copies of permits are sent to the Tax Assessor and those affecting value are inspected for added value. If you are not home at time of inspection, a notice will be left for you to call for an appointment.

TVs, computers and monitors are no longer allowed to be thrown in the trash; they must be disposed of properly. The Passaic County Office of Solid Waste & Recycling Programs provides several computer and electronics collection events throughout the year for residents to dispose of their unwanted electronic goods. For more information or to find out the 2018 electronics waste collection dates, please call 973-305-5738.

Acceptable electronic items include: computer systems (monitors, hard drives, etc.), modems, telephones, copiers, printers, fax machines, ink jet and laser jet toner cartridges, video games and systems, stereo systems, televisions, cell phones, DVD players, VCRs, floppy discs, and radios.

Unacceptable electronic items include: refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, washing machines and dryers.

My Waste® is a free app for smartphones and tablets that allows residents to receive alerts for garbage and recycling pick-ups, quickly get information on what to do with uncommon items, report problems, and much more. Download the app in the app store for Apple© or Android© devices if you want information at your �ngertips to help you remember Prospect Park’s collection days or know the correct way to discard out-of-the-ordinary objects such as an unwanted refrigerator, lawn mower, or bulk item.
