How Many Times Have We Been HereThis is the 13th OVC Tournament appearance for the Racers. Overall they are 8-10 and under Groves are 2-2.

Friday I’m In LoveThis will be just the third time all year that the Racers have played on a Friday. The other two times saw Murray State victorious against non-conference opponents from the Sunbelt. A 1-0 win at Troy on August 25 and a 4-3 overtime win aginst Little Rock on September 8 at Cutchin Field were the last two Friday games.

Where We RankThe Racers once again moved up in the RPI rank-

ing, as they now sit at 26.

Program Low (In a good way)For the first time in program history, the Racers have let up less than 15 goals, with just 11 goals allowed this regular season.

Up And ComingRebecca Kubin has been responsible for the last three goals scored for Murray State. She currently has seven goal, three assist and 17 points.

Records Are Meant To Be BrokenSetting new records for game winning goals, ca-reer goals, and career point, you’d think there isn’t too left for Harriet Withers to break. She is now just one goal away from tying the single season record of 13 goals set in 2004.

Head Coach Jeremy GrovesThe 2017 season will see Head Coach Jeremy Groves begin his fourth season at the helm of the Murray State women’s soccer program. Since the program was started in 2000, no period has seen more success than the last three seasons under Groves’ direction.

From 2014-16, the Racers have recorded an overall mark of 35-19-4 and have dominated OVC play with a record of 24-3-3. In the Groves era, the Racers have been very good on their home pitch at Cutchin Field. MSU is 22-4-1 at home in three seasons including 15-2-1 in the last two seasons.

In his second season, Groves’ Racers of 2015 won their first Ohio Valley Conference regular season title since 2008 and first OVC Tournament since 2009. The Racers had a school-record 16 wins. They also became the first team in OVC history to go undefeated at 10-0. MSU played it’s second NCAA Tournament game at Ole Miss.

The record 2015 season produced several awards including the OVC Player of the Year winner by Harriet Withers. Taylor Stevens, Taylor Richerson were named All-OVC First Team amd freshman Alex Steiger-

wald was named to the OVC Newcomer team.In 2016, the Racers went 7-0-3 and won a share of the OVC title and were upset in the OVC Tournament by SIUE.

Withers again was named OVC Player of the Year and the Racers also saw Ali Critcher. Taylor Richerson and Nyomi Devine each received All-OVC Second Team honors, while Karsyn Hasch was named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team.

Groves is no stranger to the OVC. He was an assistant coach at Morehead State from 2010-13. While with the Eagles, Groves helped lead the team to three OVC tournament championship game appearances, including the 2010 OVC reg-ular season championship and the 2010 and 2013 OVC tournament titles.

While at Morehead State, Groves served the team in several areas, but it was his recruiting that really helped make the Eagles a great program. Groves helped bring talented players to Morehead State including the 2013 OVC Offensive Player and Freshman of the Year, Jade Flory and Angela Black. While Groves was on staff at Morehead with head Coach Warren Lipka, the Eagles posted a 20-12-5 record in OVC play.

Groves spent six seasons at his alma mater at the University of Kentucky. He spent the first two with the women’s team and the last four with the men’s side. While with the Wildcat women, Groves helped train the goalkeepers and prepared scouting reports. The Wildcats won the 2006 SEC Tournament. With the men’s program, Groves served in an expanded role helping prepare team training sessions, assisted in recruiting and academics.Groves has a Junior Team Coaches License, as well as his Level One & Level Two Certificates from the English Football Association.

A native of Leeds, England, groves began his playing career in the academy of his hometown club, Leeds United A.F.C.After coming up in the Leeds system, he also played for Rotherham United and York City F.C. Once moving state side, he spent one season at Virginia Intermont before transferring to Kentucky. He helped lead the Wildcats to two straight MAC championships in 2003 and 2004. Groves continued to play with the Lafayette Swamp Cats of the Premier De-velopment League and also represented the United Kingdom in the 2005 World University Games in Turkey. He grad-uated from UK with a degree in Kinesiology and Business. Groves and his wife Melissa have two sons, Aidan (5) and Jaxson (1).
