Tena koe maatua katoa,

It was lovely to meet so many of you at Meet the Teacher on Tuesday night. Thank you for taking the time to come along and connect with school, meet your child’s teacher(s) and find out more about what will be happening for your child at MBIS this year.

It has been a wonderfully positive start to the year. Classes are settled, students are happy and learning programmes are underway. Teachers are currently collecting assessment information that will be used to inform your child’s learning programme.

Sports trials, and auditions for production, rock band, music groups and dance troupes are underway. Please encourage your child to get involved. There are so many wonderful opportunities here at MBIS and Intermediate is the perfect time to give everything a go.

Thank you to those families who have made use of our new online store KINDO and have paid various registration fees. This new system has certainly simplified things at the front reception, and we hope it has made life easier for you too.

A big thank you to the 494 families who have already paid their voluntary donation for this year. The quality of education we provide at MBIS would not be possible if we relied fully on the funding provided by the government.

Enjoy the rest of your week, Naku noa,

Melinda Bennett

Micro Fleece Jackets cost $75 each and payment must be made before the order can be placed. Payment is to be made with our payment system Kindo. We are wanting to gauge if there is sufficient interest in MBIS employing a singing tutor during school hours. Please email Sarah Holmes (HOD Arts) [email protected] to let her know that your son/daughter is interested in this as a possible opportunity. Our annual visit to Japan takes place during October. Places are limited to 22 students in Year 8. The cost is approximately $3600.00 all inclusive. The only other expense associated is the suggested pocket money of $300.00. A meeting of interest will be held on the 20th of February in the school hall at 7pm for students and parents. Following the meeting, a commitment from families will be required in the form of a $600.00 non-refundable deposit to secure a place, due to the popular demand of this annual excursion.

If you have not already done so, please can all students who are catching the bus before or after school complete the google form by Wednesday 7th February. All students (Year 7 and Year 8) need to complete the ICT contract also by Wednesday 7th February. Please use the links below. Bus: https://goo.gl/forms/FBVFiFpei17HslZ12 ICT: https://goo.gl/forms/5w4wuW5gPFQiNA3f2 We had a great day trialling our Cheerleading students and all students are now aware which team they have been placed in. More details will follow shortly. If your child would like to join Cheerleading we have a few places available and they are welcome to join us Thursday to see if they would enjoy it. Please email Janette Wilson for more details. [email protected] Dance Auditions for Year 7 (Jazz/Contemp/Lyrical) were this week. If you child missed out they can still trial with our Year 8 next week. Please email Janette Wilson for more details. [email protected]

Year 7 - Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th February Year 8 - Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd February

All players who wish to be included must attend trials on the allocated day. If players are interested in trialling for one of our top three teams, they must also attend the fitness testing at 7.30am on the allocated day. All details are available on the Google Classroom - wxkxw1u. Any questions, please email [email protected]

Thank you to all the families who have been using our new payment system Kindo. We appreciate people using this. If you have not yet signed up and made yourself an account please go to the MBIS website and click on the tab at the top Payment/Shop and follow the instructions. For this system to work please make sure the email you are using is the one we have at school on our records. Any problems contact Kindo on 0508 454 636 (0508 4 KINDO).

If your child is going to be away from school at any time you need to contact the absentee line before 8.30am. Parents can either phone the school on 477 2121, Press 1, or email [email protected]. This is our preferred method of contact. Please do not email your child’s teacher with an absentee, this will be done by the school. When phoning or emailing you need to indicate your child’s full name, room number and the reason they are away. If your child is going to be late or leaving early, students need to sign in and/or out on the tablet at the school office. This must be done even if this has been indicated by phone. Your child’s teacher will require a note if your child is leaving school during the day.

Club Murrays - our after school care club is now using Kindo as our booking and payment system. Bookings must be made in advance (before 2.30pm of the day required). See the school website for the link to Kindo.

The Relay For Life is an event set up to help raise funds for The Cancer Society. It is an event where teams of people take turns walking around a track to make up a total of 18 hours. Participants do not have to be on the track for the full time period, as they can tag in and out with another team member as they wish. Each team however, is asked to have one member on the track at all times, signifying that Cancer never sleeps. Cancer patients don’t stop because they’re tired, so neither do we.

The Relay for Life will be held on 10-11 March, 2018, at AUT Millennium Centre. Murrays Bay Intermediate has registered a team to participate in the event, to do our part and show our support for those who have been affected by cancer. Each team sets up a campsite at the event. There is a carnival-like atmosphere throughout with entertainment and a range of games and activities for teams to join in. Teams bring in their own food, and some food vendors are onsite with hot and cold food and drinks.

If your child wishes to participate and join our MBI team, they can register themselves for $25 by heading to https://www.everydayhero.co.nz/event/RFLAucklandNorth2018. When registering, click on ‘find a team’ and search for “Mighty MBI.” Students can then fund raise by encouraging family and friends to make a donation to their personal profile, which in turn will help add to the total donations collected by MBI.

Students who want to be involved, do not have to attend for the full 18 hours. They can arrive and leave the event when it suits them, and can participate on the track for as long as they wish. Students who attend the event, however, must be accompanied by an adult, to support with supervision.

If you are unable to be involved in the event, but would still like show your support, you can make a donation to the MBI team profile by heading to https://rflaucklandnorth2018.everydayhero.com/nz/mighty-mbi

We as a school would love to show our support towards this great charitable foundation, and see as many of our students join us in this fun and exciting event!
