This qualification is for those students who have an interest in music and are keen to develop skills as a musician with the aim to perform and compose   music. VCE VET Music Industry (Performance) provides  students with the opportunity to apply a broad range of knowledge and skills in varied work contexts in the music industry. Students will gain competencies that will enhance their employment opportunities within the music industry.Students will work towards composing simple songs or musical pieces and preparing for performances, whilst developing improvisation skills, applying knowledge of genre to music making and performing music as part of a group or as a soloist.

PLEASE NOTE: ∙ Students must have a solid playing/singing ability to complete this course.∙ Students must have completed Certificate II in Music Industry to be eligible for this course.∙ At the end of Unit 4, students may be required to perform their final recital in Melbourne at the students cost.

Program Content – Performance Year 2

Techniques & practical skills students undertake to develop further knowledge

Learning, rehearsing and performing music as a soloist or band member – performances include school events such asCommencement Ceremony and Graduation. Wider community events can include "The Beat", Vanilla Slice, performancesin the Mall and the Eisteddfod

To play music in a variety of styles such as early Rock n Roll, Reggae and Funk styles

Use social media platforms like SoundCloud and YouTube to promote your music and skills

Performing basic sound editing to edit an advertisement suitable for radio or television using industry standard software

Apply WHS principles in your work practices.

This qualification is for those students who have an interest in music and sound production and are keen to develop skills in a range of areas such as recording, mixing and sound editing. Students will gain competencies that will enhance their employment opportunities within the music industry.

VCE VET Sound Production provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to record, mix and edit sound sources, and operate sound reinforcement equipment for live music events. Units provide students with the opportunity to learn the essentials of audio engineering and electronic music production.

Techniques & practical skills students undertake to develop further knowledge

Learn to setup and operate sound systems for live performances setup and mix sound for class performances and schoolevents such as Commencement Ceremony and Graduation. Also wider community events such as "The Beat", The GreatAustralian Vanilla Slice, performances in the Mall and the Eisteddfod

Learn to record music and voice‐overs in a studio such as record class soloists and bands

Performing basic sound editing – eg edit an advertisement suitable for radio or television using industry standard software

Use social media platforms to promote your music and skills (eg – SoundCloud, YouTube)

Apply WHS principles in your work practices.

Highly Recommended.SWL Recognition is available to VCAL and VCE students who are undertaking a VCE VET program. Students who complete 10 days full‐time equivalent work placement in their VCE VET industry area and the three sections of the Workplace Learning Record may be eligible for one VCE credit at Units 1 & 2  level or one VCAL general credit.

Structured workplace learning complements the training undertaken during class time. It provides the context for: • Enhanced skill development• Practical application of industry knowledge• Assessment of units of competency/modules as determined by the

RTO• Increased employment opportunities.

Structured Workplace Learning 

Contribution to VCE & VCAL VCE

Students will receive one VCE VET 3 – 4 sequence. 

Students wishing to receive an ATAR contribution for the Units 3 and 4 sequence of a VCE VET     program must undertake scored assessment for the purpose of achieving a study score. 

This study score can contribute directly to the ATAR, either as one of the student’s best four   studies (primary four) or as a fifth or sixth study. Where a student elects not to receive a study score, no contribution to the ATAR will be available. 

VCAL

Contribution to VCAL is determined by the number of units of competence successfully completed. When a student has been assessed as competent in units totalling 90 nominal hours, this will contribute one VCAL unit towards satisfactory completion of VCAL. 

Students can receive up to 2 VCAL credits for  VET Music Industry—Sound    Production or Performance

This program will satisfy learning outcomes for the Industry Specific Skills and Work Related Skills strands of VCAL
