Music Magazine – Double Page Spread

Analysis

Page 2: Music Magazine – Double Page Spread Anaysis

NME MagazineNME feature Pete Doherty on their double page spread they show him in a medium shot holding a beer in what looks like a pub. He is pictured in a red jumper and a

large necklace. The title of the article is written across his chest and reads “In Good Health” this contradicts the image of Pete as he looks a little rough. This would work effectively as it will intrigue the reading and make him or her want to read on. The fact that the image has been taken in, what looks like, a normal environment allows

the reader to feel more in touch with Pete, and makes the interview a little more personal. The text on the right hand page is split into 3 even columns. It starts the article with a very large “A” as the first letter, this immediately catches the readers eye and makes it nearly impossible to ignore, and that is probably the reasoning behind it. There is then a quote half way through the article that states what Pete has said during the interview. This allows the reader to take a break from the intense article and makes it more for easy reading. There is finally an image of him performing live in the bottom right hand corner. This will relate and link in with his band, The Libertines. It also allows the reader to create a better image of what the artist in on about when referring to him performing. This article follows an earthy colour scheme, this could go on to relate to earthy colours being natural and that is where we find this interview with Pete, in a natural state.

Q Magazine

This edition of Q Magazine shows Ed Sheeran. He is pictured in a superman theme. Superman is mostly seen getting changed into his superhero suit in a telephone box. This links with the image because Ed is seen with the superman logo under his suit. This also cleverly links in with the title of the article which is “UP UP AND AWAY” this cleaver as it links in with everything else as it is often placed with the superhero concept, as well as the costume. The image goes across both of the pages, but on the left hand page the article is placed in a white box. The sub-heading of this article is “Super Ed Sheeran’s non stop guide to becoming an overnight sensation”, this, again, relates into the rest of the articles themes of superheros by calling him “Super Ed Sheeran”, this further embeds the writers opinion on the singer into the readers mind. The text is split into 3 columns again, this allows the writers to include a lot of information and text, without it appearing to be too much to read. The overall colour scheme of this double page spread, still relates to the superhero Superman. The colours throughout are blues, reds, blacks and whites. There is also a splash on the right hand side of the spread that tells us that he is a “Winner Artist” this creates an interest to a reader that might not know who he is, this could make them want to find out more about this “winner artist”. The name of the magazine, Q, is placed in the top left hand corner of the page, to advertise the magazine throughout.

NME MagazineThis double page spread’s layout is a very simple one. It sees the band situated on the left hand page, while the interview is on the right hand page. The image of the article shows all the members of the Arctic Monkeys in a medium shot, this allows the reader to see what they are wearing and their posture. The title of the article is positioned on the right hand page and includes two very different fonts, one sees a fancy style, with lots of flicks, while the other font shows the text in bold and clear text. The title states “The Joshua Code” this relates to the whereabouts that they were recording their current album, when the article came out, Joshua Tree in California. The name of the band, Arctic Monkeys, has also been placed in a small box on the top right hand side of the page, this allows readers that don’t recognise the band to still be able to know who they are quickly after flicking onto the double page. The article of the band is in the bottom right hand corner and is split into 3 columns, which I’m starting to recognise as a uniform for double page spreads. The article being split up like this makes it easier to read and invites the audience in better than if it was one think column. There is a splash in the top left hand side of the double page spread, which is unusual for a double page, but it advertises that fact that the Arctic Monkeys were playing at Reading & Leeds festival in the summer. The colour scheme of these two pages is a plain one, the text is only a black or a grey text on a white background.
