Music Magazine Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have tried to make sure that my music magazine is different and that it hasn’t conformed to the average music magazine. Although I did get inspiration from such magazine as Kerrang and NME. I have developed it to fit in with other Indie Magazine and I have used quite blunt, block colors such as reds and blacks. I also wanted it to have a crowded layout, but still keep it looking edgy. Compared to real media products I think that it would definitely stand a good chance at being published for example ,because it does offer a good range of interesting, edgy and fun things to read about.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

It would be most likely that I would want Bauer Media to distribute my music Magazine because they have distributed such magazines as Kerrang, Mojo and Q. The reason for this choice of media Institution is because all the music magazines that they have distributed are similar to my magazine, in that they portray the same genre or music.I would personally love to see my music magazine mostly distributed into music stores, such as HMV and Rise , but then also distributed into the mainstream shops such as WHSmith.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I think that my Music Product ( Magazine) represent a certain group of people who enjoy diverse different music than the average teenager in the Uk right now don’t. My Magazine contains Indie , Rock and Punk bands and it represents a culture of people that are into music from bands, (people that play there own instruments and write there own songs) unlike the manufactured pop bands that are currently in the charts. On my front cover , I decided to choose my friend Shannon to model the lead singer of my band ‘ The Rejects’ I chose her because not only is she Edgy she is diverse and different and extremely photogenic. The way my other model Mason poses is different he looks moody but edgy at the same time.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The main Audience for my magazine was young adults , male and female although it could be read by younger teens there should also be a parental guidance because I feel that my magazine could contain language that might not be suitable for a younger audience. I also wanted my magazine to encourage an audience of people that have quite diverse music taste, people that don’t necessarily conform to the music currently in the charts.Such as teenagers who enjoy rocks and Indie music. Bands such as :. You me at Six. Kings of Leon. Paramore. Kids In Glass Houses.All of these bands are mentioned on the front cover.

How did you attract/address your audience?

With my magazine at first I decided to research rock music magazine such as, Kerrang and NME. This is where I got my inspiration from. To attract my target audience , I decided to include well known rock bands such as , Kings of Leon, You me at Six and Paramore on the front cover because I feel that my target audience would conform to these particular bands.On the front cover I used unique selling points such as “Exclusive interview you me at six and Chiddy” to draw in the audience. I also have also mentioned over band on the cover.. I chose to use black and red as the font because you have the red that is quite feminine, and the black that is masculine. I also chose to use a bright almost florescent pink for the name of the band because this conforms to a punky , rocky look which I am trying to achieve. Because of the brightness of the font , it draws in the audience.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Whilst constructing my music magazine I have learnt how to use Photoshop and Publisher.I used Publisher to construct my double page spread.I used Photoshop to construct my contents page and my front cover.I have learnt a range of different skills from these two technologies, on Photoshop I learn such skills as how to cut images out and place them onto the cover and how to use all the different tools that are available.On Publisher I learnt how to construct a double page spread using a double page layout.
