HISTORY•Korea is rich in musical culture, and its music is distinctive despite tremendous influences from China.
HISTORY•Evidence of these influences can presently be found in the existence of Koreanized-Chinese music called tang-ak
HISTORY
•The Korean term tang-ak literally means music from T'ang Dynasty China.
Korean traditional music can be roughly divided into two major categories:
Chong-ak;which means music for the ruling class
Sog-ak; music for the common people
•Yayue- an elegant music which includes ritual and ceremonial court music
•Suyue-popular music•Huyue-foreign music
•A-ak-elegant vocal and instrumental music
Pansori-drama sung by one performer and accompanied by barrel-shaped drum

KAYAGUM•Kayagum is
often compared with Japanese Koto, but it is quite different from Koto in the following points:
KAYAGUM•It should be placed on the lap of its player and its tail on the floor,

•Kayagum is played with bare fingers.
