Music Search Committee Candidate Introduction and Recommendation × May 14, 2017 The Music Search Committee and Pastors are delighted to present and recommend to you a candidate for Pastor of Music and Media. Since last Fall, the Committee has prayerfully sought out the right candidate for this time at First Baptist Church. The Committee committed itself to find a man of character, possessing spiritual understanding and maturity. A man of conviction with theological depth. A man of competence, possessing the skills necessary and appropriate to the position. A man of chemistry who would fit with the Pastors, music teams, and church as a whole. The Committee sought out a man with an education sufficient to possess the skills required, as well as experience in various areas of church music, particularly in working with choirs of various ages, a band, and media. Beyond the skills, the Committee sought out a man with a heart for Christ, His Word, His Church, and His worship. The search began with gathering prospective names from church members and other trusted associational sources. The Committee then reached out with a letter of inquiry to each of these. As responses arrived, so did November and the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Season. As you can imagine, pursuing someone in church music is difficult that time of the year. As 2017 began, the Committee began reviewing prospective candidates and reaching out to any new names they had received. This process eventually led to the Committee identifying three strong candidates for the position. Formal interviews were arranged with each of these candidates. Following these interviews and after prayerful consideration, one candidate was chosen for further interviews. The chosen candidate met with the Pastors for an in-depth discussion of doctrine, ministry philosophy, and other pertinent topics. The candidate and his wife were then interviewed again by the Committee. Following this interview, the Committee voted to extend an invitation to come in view of call as Pastor of Music and Media at FBC. The schedule was arranged so the candidate could fulfill his obligations at his current church. The Committee and Pastors are pleased to recommend to the church Bro. Drew Russell. Bro. Drew is no stranger to FBC. His association with FBC began as a member of the Youth Choir in 2006. He and his family joined FBC in 2008. Drew graduated from Columbia Christian School in 2011 and then attended Central Baptist College in Conway, AR. Drew earned a Bachelor of Science in Bible with a minor in worship arts in 2014. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Worship from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and plans to complete this degree in the summer of 2018. Bro. Drew met Amber during their first semester at CBC and were married in June of 2014. Amber and her family attended Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenbrier, AR. Amber graduated from Greenbrier High School and attended Central Baptist College pursuing a business degree. Amber transferred to the University of Central Arkansas during her junior year and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. She is currently employed as an accountant for Thomas & Thomas CPA firm and is pursuing a Master of Business in Administration from Texas A&M University in Texarkana. She expects to graduate in the Fall of 2018. Bro. Drew spent two summers serving under Bro. Stan Scroggins as his intern. It was during this time that he surrendered to the Lord's calling on His life. He has since served in various capacities outside of FBC, including worship leader for CBC's chapel services and worship intern at Antioch Baptist Church in Conway. In January of 2015, Bro. Drew joined the staff at First Baptist Church of Wake Village as Music Minister. Since joining the full-time staff at FBC Wake Village, he has successfully led the start of new ministries and seen substantial growth in
