Title: Death In The NurseryArtist: LEGEND

In 1981, the heyday of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, the band LEGEND from the island of Jersey (UK) released their eponymous debut album, released at the small label Workshop Records. Of course, they chose a perfect name for a band playing hard rock, but without web search one hardly could know that they were not the only LEGEND.One year later LEGEND followed up: The LP „Death In The Nursery“ was released at the same label and with the same line-up. The pieces became tighter and shorter, but the actual style of the quartet fortunately remained unchanged.Also the quality of the production reflects the sound of a small studio somewhere on the island of Jersey in 1982. Even a remastering can‘t change the rattling sound much. But for many fans it‘s this aspect that makes „Death In The Nursery“ so special, as well as ingenious songs like „Choices“ or „Why Don‘t You Kill Me?In 2002, the US underground label Monster Records released a double CD with the first two albums supplemented by additional material. The German band Roxxcalibur even opened their third album „Gems Of The NWOBHM“ (2015) with a Legend cover version, Svart Records and High Roller provided LP reissues. Pete Haworth, guitarist and founding member, expressed his enthusiasm about the idea of Golden Core/ZYX to release the first two albums separately (!) as a CD with a new remaster, supplemented by the „Frontline“ EP. On the „Anthology“ double CD from 2002 the speed was not right after the tape overdubbing, which always bothered the guitarist. So, the collaboration between Golden Core / ZYX and the band was signed and while the scope of the two CDs was still being discussed, Pete died suddenly and unexpected. Golden Core forwarded the email correspondence to the remaining band members and they still agreed to the release; not at least to honor the memory of Pete Haworth.„Death In The Nursery“ was overdubbed and cleaned from an original Workshop Records LP by Patrick Engel and then remastered by Neudi. Two band members provided rare photos and memorabilia, as well as liner notes. The „Frontline“ EP is split between both Golden Core rereleases. The reissue CD „Legend“ already contained the A side. On this disc now the B-side is included as a bonus (two songs).

Title: Protectors Of The LairArtist: GRIFFIN

After the successful 3 CD box set and the LP „Flight Of The Griffin“, Golden Core now releases the second album of the cult US metal band GRIFFIN on vinyl. While the debut album offers rather pure, traditional Heavy Metal, the follow-up work by the band around the exceptional singer William McKay sounds more like Speed and Thrash Metal combined with Griffin’s distinctive musical trademarks.„Protectors Of The Lair“ was released in 1986 at Steamhammer/SPV, and therefore this second album was more widespread in Europe for a few years than „Flight Of The Griffin“. Musically the band was at the speed of life, but the style can also be described as kind of oddball. However, the biggest drawback was always the weak sound, which was almost only in the mids and trebles. This problem was now solved in a double sense!Fortunately, the original 24-track tapes still existed and could be recorded over after some repairs.As a result, not only a remaster could be done, but also a remix made by Neudi 2020 and filling LP 1.The second disc contains the original mix from 1986, but remastered by Patrick Engel (Metal Blade, High Roller, etc.). The gatefold double LP contains liner notes and photos as well as an insert with lyrics. The original cover was restored by Kai Brocks.As with „Flight Of The Griffin“ it is to be expected that the first edition will be sold out quickly and a repressing may take some time.

Title: Satans‘s SerenadeArtist: QUARTZ

Quartz is not only one of the oldest active metal bands, but also belong to the founding fathers of the NWOBHM. Together with Samson and Marseilles they swept aside the hip punk movement of the late seventies, while being kind of vanguard to Iron Maiden or Saxon, even before the term „New Wave Of British Heavy Metal“ was coined a little later.In 1977, the debut album „Quartz“, strongly reminiscent of Black Sabbath and later marketed a second time as „Deleted“, was released on Jet Records (Ozzy Osbourne among others). In 1980 they switched to the next industry giant: MCA. In the same year, they released the LP „Stand Up And Fight“. Both albums are popular classics today, but in between these releases there was an exciting period, resulting in two singles and a live LP. And of course Quartz‘s signature song: „Satan ́s Serenade“!In between the impressive major deals, the small label Reddington ́s Rare Records took care of the band. As the name gives it away, it‘s actually a record shop, which is directly reminiscent of Metal Blade and Brian Slagel. You can notice the attention to detail: „Satan ́s Serenade“ was released as a 12“ in red vinyl, while „Nantucket Sleighride“ was a 7“ single, which was released in five versions (coloured vinyl and red or black cover).This positive madness was topped with a clear 7“ flexidisc that was distributed as promocopy. Incidentally, RRR were also responsible for Paralex and Mayday. Golden Core is extremely proud to present both legendary RRR singles now as a 12“ EP (playing time: 25:47) in a limited edition of 300 copies. The LP includes a printed inlay and a reprint of the „Nantucket Sleighride“ single (on paper). Liner notes include a recent, exclusive interview with drummer Malcolm Cope! The original singles were overdubbed and audio-cleaned by Patrick Engel, then remastered by Neudi and adapted to the medium vinyl by Vadim Kulin (ZYX Studio). A unique collector‘s item!

Recorded in the famed Van Gelder Studio and actually using the original Hammond C-3 organ that Jimmy Smith et al. used for their recordings, the music within this recording is adventurous. It‘s a continuation of the groove that was established years ago by organists interacting with big bands and it reveals to us the Blues, the Rhythm & Blues and the Jazz that Mike heard coming up through the jazz ranks.
