While we are all Mustang enthusiasts, I would like to suggest that what we have planned for the Grand National is much more than a car show!

Jim Peterson, Show Director, and our Grand National Car Show Committee, have worked diligently for more than two years to plan an event where the car show is the cen-terpiece and offer additional activities and venues to check out. These include the BBQ Tailgate on Friday evening where everyone is encouraged to wear your favorite team’s apparel and enjoy some of KC’s best BBQ. Saturday evening’s off-site dining and enter-tainment venues including the iconic Union Station, Power & Light District and Crown Cen-ter, or for those who purchased tickets, the Million Dollar Quartet at The New Theater. Sunday will begin with a breakfast buffet, keynote speaker from Ford Performance, car show award ceremony, and concludes with a post-show cruise down some of KC’s fa-mous boulevards.

There are 155 Mustangs on the inside show field and 333 outside, for a total of 488 of the country’s most prestigious Mustangs. There are also a couple of cars appearing in sponsor displays, bringing the total to 490, with 393 being judged. Breakdown by MCA Division totals are as follows:

The field is made up of participants from 36 states and there are also participants at-tending the show from Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.

It’s also important to remember the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City and the Mus-tang Club Of America are both not-for-profit organizations and 100% of the net proceeds from the Grand National will go to Children’s Mercy Hospital.

In the spirit of giving while having fun, we hope you enjoy the GiveSmart on-line auc-tion and actively bid on items to take home with you. Help Wanted—Grand National Can you believe we are now 2 weeks out from the 'Going to Kansas City' Grand National Show? The committee has been hard at work for many months and emails are flying in all directions. This a memo requesting about 3 hours of your time to make this a successful show. We are in need of a few people to fill our last volunteer spots. The areas of greatest need are: Trailer Unloading: Direct tow vehicles to the unloading area. This is a newly identified area of need at the convention center. The Logistics committee wants to be prepared to effectively and efficiently get trailers in and out of the convention center in a timely manner. These people will be directing traf-fic to the appropriate location to unload their car. Shifts are currently set from 8am to 11am; 11am to 2pm and 2pm to 5pm on Friday and 8am to 10am on Saturday. Shuttle Drivers: Shuttle Drivers will drive a set route, at a set schedule, picking up and dropping off passengers in a safe manner while following all rules of the road. Drivers will be required to provide a copy of drivers license and insurance to the Shuttle Lead, Rick Hernandez. The primary route is to/from the Overland Park Convention Center/Sheraton Hotel, Marriott Hotel and the trailer parking at Cleveland Chiropractic College. Currently the greatest need is Sunday 8am to 2pm during the awards ceremony. (6 spots) We also need drivers to be available for the third shuttle van on Thursday, Friday and Saturday if it is available and if demand requires its use. Shifts are divided into 2 hour increments. Trailer Parking at Cleveland Chiropractic College or the Marriott Hotel: Each driver is to be given a 'Trailer Parking' sign to put on the dash of the tow vehicle. You may have other papers with maps or instructions of what to do to hand to the driver and then direct the driver to the next available spot in the lot. There will be an RV available for use at the college for a 'command post'. Currently we need 2 more people per 3 hour shift Thursday afternoon, all day Friday and Saturday morning. Security: Assist with security of trailers at Cleveland Chiropractic College and show cars at the Overland Park Convention Center. There will be one Overland Park Police officer at the college and one Overland Park Convention Center security person on duty with the volunteers. This is an overnight position with shifts Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights currently divided into 4 hour increments (8 to midnight; midnight to 4am and 4am to 8 am) and there will be an RV available for use. The more volunteers the club provides, decreases the number of security personnel the club has to hire. By providing volunteers, the club increases our donation to Children's Mercy Hospital by reducing that ex-pense. 50/50 Sales: Sale tickets for 50/50 drawing to be held Sunday morning at the awards ceremony. There are 3 inside positions both Friday and Saturday and three outside positions on both Friday and Saturday. These are currently set at 3 hour shifts. Classification: Needs 4 or 5 people to help with classification for 3 hour shifts. This will involve working with a assistant head judge or a Gold Card Judge as they classify a car. It will require writing the classification letters and number on the dash car card (example CTA is Concours Trailered 65-66, spot 123— CTA 123). Greeters: Greeters have the responsibility for directing cars as they enter the show field to the classification area. Need one greeter for Friday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and two people from 2:30 to 5:30 PM on Friday. If you volunteer in any area and you are showing your car, you may have your car classified and parked Thursday night be-tween 4PM– 6PM if you would like. If the time slots don't work for you, let me know what would work and I'll see if I can move people around to accommodate your need. The overall schedule of the show is included on the last page of the newsletter. Again, thank you for volunteering your time to aid the Mustang Club of Greater Kansas City as we provide a great experience to the visitors of Kansas City as we host the Mustang Club of America's Grand National and raise funds to donate to Children's Mercy Hospital.

Meeting Minutes— July Location: Bristol Hill United Methodist Church, 4826 County Line Rd, Kansas City, KS

The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m.

Board of Director Reports President, Ed Mardiat: The Grand Nation-al show is sold out, and have 30 entries on the waiting list. Henry Ford III is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. We have three seminars scheduled for Saturday afternoon: Weld Wheels, Motion-U, and Shelby Ameri-can. Our GiveSmart online auction goes live on July 25th. Vice President, Nona Hernandez: No re-port. Secretary, Jan Somerville: The June minutes were accepted as published. Treasurer, George Stegner (Absent): The treasurer’s report was accepted as read. The only increases expected for GN Show revenues will be sign-ups for show T-Shirts, BBQ, and brunch. A checking account was opened to handle the silent auction income and disbursements for the GiveSmart auction software program. Q: One of the members asked about the GiveSmart Program fees. A: Ed Mardiat indicated there is a $1,950 fee associated with the online auction pro-gram, just for the GN Show. After careful consideration, this expenditure was approved as an addition to the GN Show Budget based on the following: (1) Immediate smart phone access and updates, (2) International partici-pation, (3) Children’s Mercy Hospital reports a 30% net increase when online auctions have been used – over traditional silent auc-tion proceeds, and (4) We have some really high-value items donated, which should fare better with an online auction. Show Director, Jim Peterson: We need volunteers for some areas, the list will be published in the newsletter. Volunteers may go through Classification on Thursday at 4 p.m. and get parked. Bob Vervaecke said the GN Trophies are in the polishing phase, and will be completed on time. We will be working to set up the GiveSmart program for the online auction for the GN. Our next GN Show Committee meetings will be at the Sheraton and the Overland Park Convention Center.

Mike Hilker has coordinated T-Shirt purchas-es. He has 405 T-Shirts ordered, but needs to know the names and sizes of those want-ing a yellow Volunteer Show T-Shirt. Email Mike at [email protected] with the info. MOTOSHO T-Shirt purchases will shut down today. He is buying an extra 100 white Show T-Shirts in various sizes to sell at the show. Mike will collate the numbers to-morrow to mail to Chamberlin by Friday. Mike noted we had a bad experience with too many left-over T-Shirts at our 2005 National Show. We will have a separate table for T-shirt sales next to the Silent Auction area.

Mike expects t-shirt sales to generate $3-4K for Children’s Mercy.

Larry Crist asked for parking and security volunteers.

Public Parking: A member asked about pub-lic parking at the GN Show. On Saturday, there will be public parking across College Blvd, south of the OPCC (across the street at Black and Veatch), which should be well-marked for visitors. We are using most of the outdoor lot north of the OPCC for show park-ing in classes that are located outdoors.

Trailers: we have 160 trailers signed up, which is a real logistical headache. Emails have been sent to those towing a trailer to help avoid problems.

Past President, R.J. Coberly (Absent): Jim Peterson reported that over 100 people have signed up for the Thursday night Weld Wheel event. RJ has sent invoices to all our spon-sors and vendors. He will get Kansas sales tax information to the vendors, as it is their responsibility to collect and remit Kansas Sales tax. We have totally filled vendor/sponsor display parking. Social Report, Don Lankard: Don gave the Social Report. Events will be published in the monthly newsletter. Members at Large Dan Bentch: Dan has signed up for Sal-vation Army Bell Ringing outdoors at Crown Center on Saturday, Nov. 10th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dan noted an opportunity to per-form the same duty at Union Station – in-doors by the elevators. A motion that he look into changing the event to an indoor location at Union Station – was passed by a show of hands. Addition to minutes: Per the consen-sus of members, Dan secured the location inside, at Union Station, for the bell-ringing on Saturday, Nov. 10th, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (We will only be ringing in Union Sta-tion.) Rick Hernandez: Rick Hernandez is in charge of shuttle van drivers for the GN Show. He said that we particularly need Sunday morning drivers – who are not at-tending the brunch. Volunteers need to email a copy of their driver’s license and car insur-ance card to Nona, so that paperwork for drivers can be submitted all-together to City Rent-A-Truck. Rick also reported that Prairie Fire will also run their own shuttle to the Prai-rie Fire Shopping area on Friday and Satur-day, free of charge.

Committees Membership, George and Joy Stegner (Absent): New members were announced and those in attendance were introduced by Jan Somerville. Membership is up to 217 members. MCA Regional Director, Doye Ewert, (Absent): Ed Mardiat reported there will be a Regional Director’s Summit in Irving, TX, on Oct. 13th -15th. Cruise Night, Rick Lage: We have both the Cadillac and Chevelle Clubs as our guest clubs next month. Attendance last Saturday was down. Several members said seating in

the shade underneath the canopy was very comfortable. For new members, we cruise on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 103rd and Mastin Streets, from 4-8 p.m. Head Judge and Club Sales, Jack Bosic (Absent): Jack asked for volunteers to scribe at Classification, especially Saturday at 10 a.m. The dress rehearsal for all classi-fication volunteers will be 4-6 p.m. on Thurs-day while club volunteers go through classifi-cation. 40 club members have signed up for judging; Billy Henson, National Head Judge, says that 140-160 MCA judges are coming, so the embroidered towel gift count will be increased to 180. Club Sales: as Jack gets items from the vendor, he delivers them at the next club meeting. Road Trip Coordinator, Grace Bosic: Grace is looking at the 2018 MCA National Show schedule to plan road trips. Several national shows are within a reasonable dis-tance the next couple of years. Newsletter/Webmaster, Lorne Willard: Please get newsletter items back to me by July 28th. After our general meeting, please get a comprehensive list of volunteer needs for the GN Show to Lorne, and he will post it to the newsletter. Welcome Table, Sandy Bentch: Sandy has a few volunteer spots left, and they are all inside! Inventory Manager, Rick Lage: The Show Committee and Rick are locating inventory necessary to support the GN Show. Historian, Ken Jones (Absent): No report. Non-Club Event Coordinator, Ed Mardiat: No report.

Old Business 1. Auction Baskets and Items, Trish Raab: Trish needs Auction Baskets and individual items by Jul. 21st, due to processing for the online auction program. You can turn them in today, or drop them off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Raab Sales, on 14521 W 96th Terr, Lenexa, KS between Lackman and Pflumn. Note: Trish is also taking individual items, to be added to auction baskets.

2. Wounded Warrior Family Support/High Five Tour [WWFS/HFT], Mark Raab: We are privileged to be able to host a High Five Tour Event this year! On Fri. Aug. 18th, we gather at Cabela’s at Legends at 11 a.m., and the caravan departs at 11:30 for Topeka. We’ll do a Show-n-Shine at Laird Noller Ford with the Shelby GT 350. We have a special event – a BBQ meal at Henry’s and a guided tour of the museum and Evel Knievel display at the Harley Davidson Museum. It’s a pay-as-you-go event, with admission and meal dis-counted to $28 per person. Meanwhile, the mobility-equipped F250 Truck will be at the UAW Local 249 KC Ford Assy Plant from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The HFT also plans to display a vehicle for the U.S. Marine Corps League Convention. On Sat. Aug. 19th, the Shelby is going to Blue Springs Ford from 1-3 p.m. On Tues. Aug. 22nd, the HFT will be at the Court-yard Marriott (next to the OPCC at 11101 Woodson Dr.) from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. (free coffee and donuts). On Thu. Aug. 24th, the Shelby GT 350 moves inside for display dur-ing the GN Show (Aug. 25th -27th). Note:

Page 5

when at the GN Show, there will be no col-lections – just info brochures with the Shelby 350 display. The mobility-equipped F250 is going to the Weld Wheels event on Thu. Aug 24th from 4-8 p.m. The Weld Wheels event will include a plant tour at 5 p.m. and free BBQ at 6:30 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS

Nominating Committee, Lorne Willard: All the elected officers have met their 2-year term limit, and we have eight positions to fill. We’d like to split up the terms of office, so we turn over four members of the board every year. Please consider serving on the board, and contact Lorne. In accordance with our by-laws, we need to announce who is running and take final nominations at the September meeting, publish it in the newsletter, then vote in October. The new BoD will as-sume their duties at the November meet-ing. Mark Raab and Don Lavery were suggested for BoD positions.

MCA 55th Anniversary 2019: rumors indicate MCA may be looking for a Midwest club to host the 55th Anniversary celebration, particularly if a nearby venue is available for a driving event. We already know that the KS Speedway does not sched-ule far enough in advance for an MCA event, and that we don’t have the NFL/MLB schedules until December. Several in attendance wondered if Heartland Park in Topeka would be too far away for a driving event. There was some question about high liability insurance fees to host even an Autocross event. (Discussion without motion.)

MCA National Show Hosting: When do we want to do another MCA National Show? A three to five year minimum would be necessary to accumulate funds to host another National show. We’ve never sold out an MCA National Show – until now. Several venues are inappropriate, as they are not large enough. Topeka is inappropriate due to lack of sufficient decent-quality lodging. Their Expo Cen-ter is too small. (Discussion without mo-tion.)

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Contact Jim Peterson NOW if you want club name tags made up before the GN show.

Congratulations go to Grant Martin, a club member, whose beautiful Mustang restora-tion was published in the recent Mustang Times.
