Software Updates - D3A2
What is D3A2? A long-term initiative to establish the
technical infrastructure to provide access to data and educational resources from multiple systems. Goal: Provide access to resources and data
for instructional decision-making. An ongoing, flexible system that can
always include new data sets.

Software Updates - D3A2 (cont’d) When would we be able to use it?
D3A2 will be released in phases Phase I will include student assessment results, and give
teachers resources aligned to academic content standards to address academic areas based upon results.
Status of Phase I Four pilots:
Columbus Public Schools, Bryan City Schools, Greenon Local Schools, Kettering City Schools
The state is selecting a second round of pilots to refine load routines.
ODE indicates they “will provide more detailed information about data loads, personnel and resource requirements at the district and ITC level beginning December 1.” (SOURCE: September D3A2 Discourse.)

What can we do to get ready? Districts can sign up to be pioneers at
www.d3a2.org, on the “D3A2 Implementation Request Form”.
MVECA is compiling a list of OGT/Achievement assessment data that we have for each district and will contact districts if there is anything missing. Detailed item analysis data Test results from state assessments

Software Updates - D3A2 (cont’d)
How does value-added analysis coordinate with D3A2? Value-added data, along with all other
ODE achievement data, will eventually be included in the D3A2 system. Timelines will be shared as MVECA receives
more information.
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 9
Value-added First release of value-added data was
Monday, Oct. 30, 2006. Includes 3rd and 4th grade reading and
mathematics achievement test results for this year’s 5th graders.
How to access value-added data? Value-added login information directly from the
SAS Institute. Superintendents should have received a
verification e-mail from the SAS Institute, asking them to verify their e-mail address to get login information.
E-mail message should have an “@sas.com” extension.
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 10
Value-added (cont’d) Data released in fall of 2006 and 2007 will
give schools and districts a chance to review their initial data. During 2006-07 ODE will study how current
recommendations will affect urban, suburban and rural districts before the value-added measure becomes a part of the accountability system in 2007-08.
The public likely will have access to district summary and school value-added reports. Individual student-level reports will not be made public. (SOURCE: ODE Value-added FAQ, May 2006)

How to best benefit from MVECA support When rolling out a new software package,
MVECA staff recommend that districts: Select a solid, reliable team leader that can:
Act as a liaison for your district when there are complex issues to resolve;
Have excellent organizational and communication skills.
Establish a protocol to funnel communications through primary contacts whenever possible Streamlines communications, alleviates
confusion, helps contain costs and improve service quality
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 29
How to best benefit from MVECA support (cont’d) Adhere to suggested deadlines
E.g. Pre-ID labels, scheduling, ProgressBook yearly setup sheets, grading scales, EMIS submissions
Encourage managers/supervisors to embrace new software or technology projects. Helps districts realize the benefits of the
software/technology. People will use it, learn it, and see the intended
benefit.
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 30
How to best benefit from MVECA support (cont’d) When submitting software related questions,
detailed information helps us respond more quickly. For example:
What software package are you using (e.g. DASL or DSL)?
What building were you in when the issue occurred? What were you doing when the issue happened? On what screen did you encounter the issue? If you have a report question, what is the name and
date of the report? If you see an error message, what is it exactly? Do you have an example? (If so, please provide
student, staff, or course ID.)
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 31
How to best benefit from MVECA support (cont’d)
If responding through e-mail… Please reply to the e-mail when
responding instead of sending several different messages.
This helps include the entire text of the problem in one place. (Another benefit of CA Unicenter.)
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 32
How to best benefit from MVECA support (cont’d)
Please use CA Unicenter whenever feasible. Allows both users and MVECA staff to track the
status of issues. Retains previous questions to which users can refer. Provides MVECA management with an overview of
outstanding issues, to make staffing decisions. Allows districts and MVECA to verify that service
level agreements are honored. Tracks requests in writing to verify work was done in
accordance with requirements. Ties contact information to the person in case we
need to call to talk through the question. Helps target professional development needs of
users.
November 16, 2006 MVECA Fall Assembly Meeting 33
How to best benefit from MVECA support (cont’d) When should I call, as opposed to using CA
Unicenter? Examples:
When you are working on a process that must be completed on a short timeframe and cannot proceed without technical assistance. (e.g. auditors on site.)
When there is an emergency. (e.g. a building connectivity is down)
When you have a person standing in the office awaiting something from you. (e.g. truant officer needs an attendance report for court; a parent wants a transcript and you have trouble printing.)
