& Treatment

Advanced Canine Extractions

Canine extractions including indications and principles for surgical and non-surgical extractions, mucoperiosteal flap design, dental blocks, equipment and instrumentation will be presented in lecture format. The laboratory will include hands-on procedures to put these clinical skills into practice by reviewing extraction instrumentation, performing various mucoperiosteal flap design, single rooted teeth extractions, canine dental blocks, and fourth premolar and lower first molar surgical extractions as well as the principles of tissue handling. Dental blocks will be reviewed so you can properly include pain management into oral surgery procedures.

Understanding the stages of periodontal disease is important in being able to plan for and treat periodontal disease appropriately. A practical approach to identifying, diagnosing, and treating all stages of periodontal disease including dental charting, dental radiographs, proper use of ultrasonic scalers and hand instruments will be reviewed and demonstrated in the wet lab portion.

This lecture will focus on surgical extractions including, but not limited to, upper fourth premolars, canine teeth, multi-rooted extractions and oral fistula identification and repair techniques. We will also cover radiological indications for extractions and case studies. The hands-on wet lab procedures will include reviewing mucoperiosteal flap design techniques for difficult teeth such as upper and lower canine teeth, upper fourth premolars, and lower first molars, and oral fistula repair techniques.
