MVS Ground Broadband Network Infrastructure

3 Points Of Presence (POP) in Amsterdam, Moscow, and New York

One global APN: mvs.bgan.inmarsat.com running via both Inmarsat Gateways in Hawaii and Burum (MVS has interconnect with Inmarsat BGAN Network at 2 Meet-Me-Points: NY and AMS)

Customer may choose interconnect at one or more MVS POPs via VPN or leased line(s) for various purposes such as: closed user group arrangement, ‘end-to end’ delivery of Streaming QoS, security reasons, supply of IP address to VDP’s customers from VDP’s own pool of IP addresses, delivery of proprietary VAS etc.

Custom APN

VDP may want to build their own real APN to deliver BGAN-family of products and associated VDP’s service to their customers;

VDP may want to arrange a logical APN. Logical APN name will be known to VDP’s customers, although from a technical point of view it will work via existing MVS infrastructure.

Advantages: implementation and maintenance at low cost, less time and human recourses are required. VDP will be able to offer to its customers MVS APN VAS through their logical APN, which means that end users will not notice that MVS is a party behind.

SIM card traffic monitoring

Proactively control your usage

Alert VDP/end user about high usage

Block SIM card as needed (and/or other actions to re-orient a fair usage)

Traffic monitoring system is powered by MVS.net ‘virtual prepaid’ Broadband platform

Platform is based on account of CDR files delivered via interconnect link between MVS.net and Inmarsat BSSs (delivery delay is up to 15 minutes excluding Inmarsat BSS outage instances)

Page 17: MVS VAS overview Julia Makhlina, October, 2009 The MVS Group

Traffic usage monitoring scenarios

MVS.net ‘virtual prepaid’ platform monitors traffic usage according to a specified monitoring scenario;

Use existing scenarios or order a custom scenario according to your needs;

Web-site tools for traffic monitoring management:- assign/detach traffic monitoring scenario to SIM with

immediate effect;- review scenario settings;- review monitoring history records;- refill SIM card virtual balance;- specify e-mail addresses that receive traffic alerts

Page 18: MVS VAS overview Julia Makhlina, October, 2009 The MVS Group

Monetary monitoring scenario

Monetary scenario holds following settings:Inmarsat rate plan;billing parameters (rates for services available on the SIM,

including all voice destinations, sms, ISDN etc);initial balance in $$;E-mail alert threshold;block/unblock threshold.

Example:Specify $$ prices for voice, Background IP and

other services;Set credit limit - $1500;Send e-mail alerts to specified addresses when

remaining balance is below thresholds: $500, $200, $100;

Block SIM as the balance below $50 (optional)Unblock SIM at balance refill up to $60.

Page 19: MVS VAS overview Julia Makhlina, October, 2009 The MVS Group

Traffic based monitoring scenario

Traffic based scenario holds the following settings:Inmarsat rate plan;Initial balance in MB;E-mail alert limits;block/unblock limits.

Example:Set credit limit to 500 MbytesSend e-mail alerts to specified addresses when

remaining balance is below thresholds: 100 MB, 50 MB, 25 MB, 15 MB;

Block SIM as the balance drops down below 10 Mbytes (optional);

Unblock SIM as the balance is refilled up to 15 Mbytes.

IP filters – MVS Network Firewall

MVS POP

Internet

Corporate HQ

Web Servers

Firewall

Firewall prohibits unwanted traffic like:MP3/MP4 downloadsOnline radio / videoHeavy websitesOther "traffic eaters”

IP firewall does not imply any financial responsibility of MVS for illegible data transmission attempts passing along the link ‘FB -> I-4 -> SAS -> MVS POP’ as these attempts are blocked at MVS POP AFTER the data has passed Inmarsat Network and has been billed by Inmarsat.However the amount of such traffic is VERY low when IP protocols other than UDP are used.

Page 22: MVS VAS overview Julia Makhlina, October, 2009 The MVS Group

How IP filters work for MVS customers

MVS Firewall works only for traffic via MVS APN

Firewall policies are ONLY applicable to Static IPs (private or public)

Black and white lists of allowed/prohibited IP addresses/ ports/IP protocols

Online IP firewall management tool:

You specify a set of rules, it is stored as a template on MVS.net web site.

You assign a Static IP (Public or Private) to a SIM and apply IP firewall

template to a SIM card.

This can be done either during SIM card activation or later. Online IP firewall management actions have immediate effect

on end user experience.

Page 23: MVS VAS overview Julia Makhlina, October, 2009 The MVS Group

Sample firewall rule sets

Full access - no limitations

HQ only access - block traffic exchange with all IP addresses except 212.15.16.10

Crew access - block all protocols except web and email
