Introduction

• Famous Last Words by My Chemical Romance and is a song of the album ‘The Black Parade’ which was number one in a the rock album billboard charts.

• The music video was directed by Samuel Bayer in 2006.

The song its self is about how a man reacts to a women and the end of the relationship and is very serious but done in a very rocky style.

Type of video• The video its self is a performance video and is through

out the whole video a performance video as it does not deviate from this at any point as the whole video is set in one place but with different effects and pyrotechnics that add excitement to the whole video for them. This there for of course means that the words that the song says don’t directly associate themselves with the video.

Costume And Make Up

• The whole band are in matching dark military outfits and some of them have slightly whitened faces with dark eye make up on to make them look a bit more dark and or gothic.

• This gives off a very dark feel to the whole video

Props

• In the video the only props that are around are the bands instruments and microphones as well as the big flames that shoot out back stage and this shows that it’s a very basic and dark video that concentrates solely on the band and the song and that’s clearly what its meant to be about.

Location/Position

• There in a very dark and seemingly isolated place in the middle of nowhere with explosions going off all around. In the video they are constantly going from close up to mid shots and so forth although the close up is the most used shot.

• This all adds up to give off the idea of a lot of very angry people who feel isolated and are having darkish thoughts.

Lighting• The whole set is very dark with the only light

that is seemingly available is that of the explosions in the back ground this adds to the whole dark theme that runs through the whole film.

The Band

• The whole video is set out so that because the video is all performance based you get to see the actual band for the whole video which is used so that it can advertise the band themselves and this is generally seen as a characteristic of rock videos because a lot of it is them playing there own instruments and this is very important. The rock genre relies more than others on the whole idea of performance and personal instrumental abilities.

Overall Meaning

• The overall feel of the my chemical romance video is a very dark kind off feel and almost a certain anger with the flames and explosions and stuff and the overall mis-en-scene of the video helps create that with the dark theme be it in costume or lighting running throughout the whole video.
