to hydrate your skin and mind.

Water is the key ingredient of MUJI’s skincare as skin

needs to be hydrated to perform everyday functions.

MUJI sk incare is in fused wi th natura l ext racts and

ac t i ve i ng red ien ts – such as hya lu ron ic ac id – to

replenish the skin's water supply for lasting moisture.

Extensive research has gone into the development

of MUJI ’s water-based sk incare wi th emphas is on

sourcing the best qual i ty of water. The development

team was led towards the deep caves of Kamaishi ,

Iwate Prefecture in Japan. In Kamaishi, rain and snow

seep through the rocks of the mounta in where the

fi ltration process begins through the rocky basement,

taking approximately ten years. This lengthy process

creates pure water. This water can penetrate through

the skin layers to provide moisture.

The water is gentle and can be applied in the morning

and evening.

where it is buried under 600 metres of rock.

It filters over 10 years, and then slowly, it

resurfaces.

Over ten years, water slowly purifies and

refines itself to become so pure that you

can drink it.

Mount Omine is in Kamaishi province, Iwate

prefecture where it reaches 1147m. Mount

Omine is a sacred mountain in Japan, which

once had an active coal mine. Now, the area

is left to nature where woodland grows wild.

MUJI’s health and beauty tools are produced in the small town of Seki, Gifu prefecture in Japan. It is known as the “City of Blades” due to the high quality craftsmanship of Samurai swords and the world-famous cutlery industry. Like Solingen in Germany and Sheffield in England, Seki has risen as one of three epicentres for knife manufacturing.

evaluations in Seki. The steel scissors

used to tr im eyebrows were originally

made by a bladesmith in the post-war

e ra . Today, sc issor product ion is a

skilled department.

The proto type o f a pa i r o f sc issors

i s fo rged , then i t i s t r immed in to a

mould. After this, i t is sharpened and

polished. Once cleaned, the blades are

heated to a high temperature, which

i s sudden ly coo led down and then

kept at a constant temperature so that

the mater ia l becomes strengthened.

The cutting stage is where the blades

are beaten to create a nice curve and

beautifully sharpened.

When the two craftsmen start cutt ing

the edge of the material to create the

nai l c l ipper, there wi l l be a crackl ing

s o u n d . A f t e r t h i s , t h e m a t e r i a l i s

sharpened using the grinder and then

the two blades are assembled.

two blades of the nail clipper together

demands of Japanese customers in
